@sam-m Hi! It’s about three middle schoolers lost in the woods after a tornado, kind of playing around with the nerd, class clown, and school bully dynamic. One of the characters is separated from the other two and isn’t sure if he’s dead or alive, which is where the psychological bit comes in. For the other two, the story follows the…[Read more]

Probably an idealist. It’s hard to tell.
2) Are they into pop culture?
A bit, but not too much. He’s up to date on culture, but because of his place in culture, he had no obligations to stick to what everyone else does.
3) What is thei…[Read more]

Thank you for the feedback. I do see ways I could foreshadow the kidnapping a little more, because it is such a big part of the story.
Hmm, Zrorar… I put him into the beginning as a brief example of how adored and desired Phoenix was. He isn’t really supposed to have an actual role beyond that, and I think that expanding on his…[Read more]

I experimented with horror, and though I like the genre it’s hard (for me at least) to keep from putting unnecessary gore into my work. The plot of my horror story is fine, but while writing it I got caught up in the excitement and did a gore-overload. Does anyone else have a similar problem when writing horror?

@pensword, @phoenix, @sam-m, So there’s an entire website devoted to H.P. Lovecraft; since most if not all his works are old enough to be in the public domain, his stuff is available for free reading. He is kind of the progenitor of cosmic horror, so if you’re into writing about terrors which transcend human comprehension and absolutely dwarf our…[Read more]
