I enjoyed this article! ☺️🙌🏻The advice on staggering introductions reminds me of Gandalf’s plan to introduce the dwarves to Beorn two by two so as not to annoy him with everyone all at once. 😂

Amazing article, Rose! Thanks so much for this reassurance…
It’s so easy for me to compare my books to Lewis and Andrew Peterson and Lloyd Alexander and all the writers I want to be like.
This was a good reminder that I should want to be like them… but not in the sense of writing what they’ve already written. I want to be like them in the sen…[Read more] -

I loved that poem very much! It does need some polishing up, as all our work does, but it also resounded with me deeply. I have a fear of people not liking me, so I oftentimes don’t say what I want to say because I’m worried something will go wrong and I’ll spoil a friendship. I’m always telling myself ‘one day I’ll be bold, one…[Read more]

@erynne Okay there’s going to be like three comments on here that are saying the same thing but slightly different because I thought my computer was glitching and rewrote my comments three times but it submitted every one. XD Sorry 😛

@erynne – I’m so glad you found it helpful! 🙂
I’ve seen three movie version of Little Women and I still would not say that she ever wants Meg to not get married because she ‘doesn’t need a man’, but because she wants it to be Meg and her together forever and for Meg to be happy just with her sisters. There’s a difference between not wanting…[Read more]

Thank you so much, this was super helpful! I hadn’t really ever heard of the genre of ‘spy fiction’. You’re right, I have no point of divergence from real world events because even though this is an obscure part of the real world in my brain, that’s never really presented in the story. I think I’m going to call it a spy fiction…[Read more]

@rusted-knight Even if that historical event has nothing to do with the real world history? The events in this book and the events that trigger a change in leadership in the country are not from the real-world at all. I’m not even taking a real world event like World War II and changing it to see what would have happened if we lost. (which…[Read more]

Wow. Just… uh… wow… 😯😭
That poem was amazing. Astoundingly simple in execution and deep in concept. My favorite line was ‘baptize themselves into the church of publication’. This right here… this is my favorite kind of poetry, the kind that makes me tear up because it touched a place in my heart I didn’t know could be touched and r…[Read more]

Boo Radley as in the character from To Kill a Mockingbird?? I have never heard him referenced by anyone else in conversation! XD Would you mind sharing the poem? I’m intrigued!

@erynne – I’m gonna pop in for a quick bit – I skimmed the previous comments and just let me say, stick with Jo March and see her to the end… in the original novel, I agree with @rose-colored-fancy completely. Jo doesn’t hate marriage because she believes her sister shouldn’t be under the authority of a man or that marriage is bad. She’s afraid…[Read more]

Hey guys! *general wave because I don’t know who all is on here*
So I have a WIP that I’m trying to pin down the genre on. It’s called The Apprentice Spy. It takes place in a fictional country that is still in our world, and the setting and time period is… vague? I’m hoping if I give some description that y’all can help me pinpoint what to call…[Read more]

It’s been… going. 😀 Some days I’ve forgotten, which I’m sad about, but the days that I’ve held to my commitment of praying anytime I start working on writing have been amazing. I’ve been in a huge writing slump recently, as in the entire year of 2021 huge. But the… I believe it was fifth day prayer prompt was so good for me, the…[Read more]

Yes, I’d definitely agree that if the traditional poem was better and more honest, I’d go with that, but if the free verse touches more people and is more honest, I’ll go with that. Personally, I find the vehicle of free verse easier to share emotions in almost any day, likely due to the lack of confinement. Not to say that all free…[Read more]

@emily-waldorf I’m also intrigued… what would you define as a theme that poetry was not meant to cover? How would one determine whether or not a subject should be used for his poetry, if certain subjects were taboo? What if you were able to use a difficult subject for a poem that had perfect rhyme and meter, but it wasn’t that great of a poem?…[Read more]

@noah-cochran Thanks for stopping by and thanks for the compliments! 🙂 I’ll definitely keep up the poetry.
