Hi @emily-waldorf , I’m thankful we can all continue this conversation, even amidst the strong opinions. I think your idea about the heart and soul of poetry would line up well with John Keats: “Beauty is truth, truth beauty,—that is all
Ye know on earth, and all ye need to know.” (from the last lines of “Ode on a Grecian Urn”).Now I don’t n…[Read more]

@anne-of-lothlorien Those are some great thoughts! We have a great guide indeed. ^_^ I was travelling up to Harrisburg over the weekend of the 6th.
@obrian-of-the-surface-world Those do sound like some hard experiences to go through as you work on writing your story. I will certainly pray for you when I go out and pray later…[Read more]

That makes me feel amazing, to be honest.
Well it should, because you are! 😉
I believe in the 19- I think it was 94 version Jo kind of insinuated that Meg didn’t need a man, but yes, it was because she thought it should be them two forever.
I do agree that not every woman needs a man, I mean yeah, there are single women out…[Read more]

@anne-of-lothlorien That’s a really hard question =P
First and foremost, spy fiction is a genre. You should look into that.
The rest of your description doesn’t sound like historical fiction to me. HisFic needs to interact with the real world in some way. If the only possible way a reader could tell the story took place in an alternate version…[Read more]

This is what we call “threading the eye of the needle.” I think this is a historical fiction as long as there is a trigger event were history changed. -

Wow…that was definitely the most helpful thing I’ve gotten told so far. (No offense to anyone, y’all have all had great responses)
I’m about 14 way through Little Women, so like I said before I was almost completely speaking from the movies. I love Jo but after hearing what everyone has said, they definitely ruined her…[Read more]

Thanks for the compliments @anne-of-lothlorien !
And yes, it is in reference to “To Kill a Mockingbird.” Here it is. Hope you enjoy it (and that the forum formatting doesn’t mangle it too badly)!

Hey @anne-of-lothlorien , cool poem, and congrats on publication! It kind of of reminds me of one of my own titled “Boo Radley”.
As for the tanka, it’s a short Japanese style of poetry that’s defined by its use of syllables, as well as certain themes if you’re being strict about it. It has 5 lines, with the 1st and 3rd lines consisting of 5…[Read more]

Hey friends!
Just thought I’d touch base with you all a week later and see how this was going for you all. 🙂 I’m a couple days behind due to some travelling I did over the weekend, but have been appreciating going through this habit over this past week. Thinking through the Day Three prayer prompt in particular helped me to realize just how…[Read more]

@anne-of-lothlorien I do the same thing, though sometimes in reverse. Like a piece of instrumental music will inspire lyrics in my head.

Hey @anne-of-lothlorien thanks for joining the conversation here! And I totally agree with you on a personal level because free verse has become my preferred poetry writing style for some of the same reasons as you shared. Free verse offers a lot of freedom of expression, and when it’s handled artfully, it can express a LOT in a very poetic way.…[Read more]

Okay, so I’m here for the same reason Rose is…but seriously Anne, that poem was amazing. I especially loved the question put to the villain, it actually made me want to keep reading it. Absolutely fantastic.

I joined this group just so I could reply to this XD
That was fantastic!! It’s such an intriguing subject, and it took quite a turn!
I love how you accentuate the villain’s cruelty, and the first part has a certain melancholy about it, like you expect the villain to regret it.
And then the first half of the reply once…[Read more]

@anne-of-lothlorien Aww. That is so sad. I couldn’t imagine.

Well, it sounds very interesting. I’m writing my short story for February right now, and at one point, it seems almost dystopian/perhaps futuristic… but then again, there are knights (who have laser guns) and the MC is using robotic goldfish to spy on the corrupt Queen of Hearts. And the Mad Hatter (he goes by Georgias in…[Read more]
