Noah Cochran replied to the topic *looks around in confusion* Hi? in the forum Introduce Yourself 3 days, 14 hours ago
Hey Lily, glad to have you on SE, I’m Noah. Websites are confusing sometimes, confound them all. 🙂 If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
What’s your WIP’s premise or plot?
I adore cats. My older sister has a cat business, so our house is full of them, and we have a couple outside. Do y’all have any other animals?

Noah Cochran replied to the topic Idolatry of Creativity?? in the forum General Writing Discussions 3 days, 20 hours ago
Hey Tenshi, that’s an interesting question. The simple answer is yes, anything and everything can become an idol. How does something become an idol? The answer to that is also quite simple. If an individual puts an activity above worshiping God as a Church (Sunday’s for most people) by performing that activity instead of attending…[Read more]

Drat, I wrote a nice 2.4k words yesterday afternoon. xD But Friday through Friday is fine.
They just don’t interest me, and thus it’s easier for me to just take the prize that I might enjoy–if I win. -

@erynne
Alrighty, I shall try to participate in your contest, but two things:
It’s today through next Thursday, right?
If I happen to win (not extremely likely due to my schedule), I only need/want the book promotion prize. Again, unlikely that I win at all, but I’m picky. 🙂-
Glad you’re joining! No, it’s tomorrow through next Friday. Is there a reason you don’t care about the other prizes? XD

Oof, sorry about that. I just thought I’d give everyone a little notice this time.
Ok then. If you win you can leave all the boring prizes and get your book promo. 😛

If I am understanding your question, yes I think so.
Okay, I’m glad to hear it (it seems pretty obvious to me that gods and demons etc.. are not things the bible is okay with us reading, but many Christians claim Sanderson’s Mistborn and Stormlight are fine, despite the fact that Mistborn is full of gods, and Stormlight literally…[Read more]

Before I give a brief reply, I’d like to say a couple things.
First, using the phrase ‘taking in magical content is a sin’ is such a broad phrase that it was not wise for me to say it. So my apologies.
Secondly, let me just say, Jared, that I have never seen this argument for why magic is okay before (it’s usually vernacular and…[Read more]

I’m self-publishing through KDP, lots of work but I’ve met some cool people and learned a lot! The story is about Fledge, a deaf archer who wants to help in the war against the dragons but can’t because of his disability. It’s a story of unlikely friendship, discovery, and pupose.
Nice! Let me know how that goes, from what my…[Read more]

in fear of becoming like the pharisees, please consider my book for its main points and not its sub-sub-sub-sub-minor-sub-points.
I understand your point by that comment, but that is not an apt analogy in this context. Pharisees were concerned with following the letter of the law to gain power and glory in the eyes of men. I am concerned with what…[Read more]

I’ve been seriously writing for about five years. My current WIP is a western set in 1860-1870 Kansas. It’s about a young man named Daniel who is running from God and the pain in his past.
Nice! The 19th century (Victorian Era) is easily my second favorite period in history.
I’ve completed one book about 2 years ago, I’m actuall…

Hey Kaytlin, I’m Noah, glad to have you on SE!
It’s a great blessing to have siblings whom you are close friends with, and I’m the same way. I happen to be the second child of seven. 🙂
How long have you been writing? What’s your current WIP about? Have you completed any books yet?
Orchid hunting, nice. Do y’all live out in…[Read more]

so to summarize in simplistic fashion, curses derive their power from satan, while blessings derive their power from God…
Who uses the curses?
Who has the power to bless and how do they get it? (does God give that power to them? why?)

It is hard to make what I was saying clear in regard to the difference between fantasy and magic/supernatural. Perhaps this short guest blog post I wrote for Joelle (whom you know) will help make my beliefs clearer:…[Read more]

That’s an interesting plot, Jared!
However, I do not read books with protagonist-related supernatural content (biblical reasons). Does your book contain supernatural/magical elements? (I do not consider fantasy abilities magic/supernatural unless they are called magic/supernatural or treated as such)

Oh, that’s definitely one of the issues. I think it’s mostly because it’s so old. (it was published in the early sixties) At that time writing craft, especially prose wasn’t as well figured out yet. Whenever I read classics and older books I cringe at the sheer amount of telling XD
Who was your favorite character? Did you hav…

It was pretty good. I personally love the trope of ‘character starts off in village or town and then goes on a journey,’ so that was my favorite thing about the book probably. The writing style wasn’t my favorite (a lot of ‘he wondered’ and ‘he thought (among other things). But decent overall.

Yeah, I mean InDesign is fine just so not intuitive compared to most layout softwares I’ve used, of course I’m still getting used to Word too sooo, I find placing pictures especially annoying, like why can’t I just drag them wherever I want!?!?!

Noah Cochran replied to the topic Young boy with awkward speech. Thoughts? Help Please. in the forum Fantasy Writers 3 weeks ago
Hey Jared, it’s up to you, but if I was writing it, I would make the little boy’s speech more clear. Especially stuff like ‘wahnts yau.’ That’s just too unreadable. I’ve found that a better way of showing speech impediments is by using improper grammar, badly worded sentences, and made up contractions.

I understand what you’re saying now. We actually believe quite differently on that subject.
