I want to add one thing to what @calidris already said!
A huge part of the chibi art style revolves around drawing soft, cute “baby” like features. By making the head really big and wide, and making the body and arms/legs shorter and fatter, you can make your characters read more like chibis. Also, something I’ve struggl…

@edmund-lloyd-fletcher Hello! I have a few tips if you’d like to hear them.
First of all, I really like how you approached the lighting in this piece! Lighting is pretty hard, but the way you approached it is really fun and dynamic (which is pretty impressive considering that you’re new to digital art!).
One thing that I noticed is that the c…[Read more]

So, we’ve got a group NaNo-ing?
Me too, though not writing so much as editing “finished” books just sitting on the shelf.
Yep! Happy to have you join, even if you’re just editing a few things 🙂 I’m currently rewriting, I’m about 71k in. (I already had about 50k written before NaNo)

Haha, believe it or not, it was on a permaculture site. Seemed too perfect not to share here, though.

Synth-wood, falsewood, lab-wood, imitation wood, fauxwood, bio-planking
Skog: Swedish for wood
Lemn: Romanian for wood
~There’s actually a thing called pseudowood that is sort of like artificial wood. But it is made up of wood scraps, and not completely synthetic materials. Plywood is a type of pseudowood.

This is a good idea.
I think that most of what we try to hide is our pride, and I find that our culture (I’m guilty of this also) covers it up behind “Identity,” and “Expressing ourselves,” and “Being valued.”
If I can justify my wrong actions because someone else mis-treated me, or because they don’t “value” me, it’s…[Read more]

I don’t know if this is helpful, but Andrew Peterson has a way of describing both music and words in a way that is really moving. I’m not sure where you can find his stuff…it’s all throughout his songs and books.
That’s just what came to mind when I saw your post.

@edmund-lloyd-fletcher, if your blog is just a way for you to share random tidbits and thoughts, it’s perfectly fine that it’s a bit of a grab bag. However, if you’re planning to use it for marketing your books, you might want to rethink a bit…maybe create a new, book-specific one, or add a new page dedicated to your books? That’s what I have.

@edmund-lloyd-fletcher In third-person, you can kind of get away with ignoring the construct of “narrator as character” and “narratee as character.” Though you can just write first-person as third-person limited with different pronouns, I feel like that ignores so much of the potential utility of first-person.
In first-person your narrato…[Read more]

@edmund-lloyd-fletcher, I’m no expert in first-person (I likewise generally detest it), but I’ll give it a shot.
So, as you astutely observed, first-person by its very nature violates the rule of “show don’t tell.” However, it’s important to remember why that rule exists and what it primarily refers to – that is, things that we can’t literally see…[Read more]

Princess Foo replied to the topic Ugh! I hate writing first-person! in the forum General Writing Discussions 4 years, 11 months ago
@edmund-lloyd-fletcher I mainly write in first person.
For me at least, when I think of telling vs showing, I think of emotions and thoughts. You are telling me how you are feeling. It’s “I was angry and sad” instead of “My eyes burned. I swiped at my eyes with a clenched fist.” So “I did this. I went there.” isn’t telling to me. Those…[Read more]
