  • Well, I’m pretty new here, so I’m not super familiar with the folks on this forum yet, but I’ve been a member of ChristianWriters.com for over two years now, and they have been incredibly helpful and encouraging to me as I continue my writing journey. In fact, if it weren’t for them, I don’t think I’d have a writing journey. I certainly wouldn’t…[Read more]

  • Thanks so much for offering, Mel. My email is: btznvntATgmailDOTcom. If you just send an email to me, then I’ll have yours and you won’t have to put it up here.

Then I’ll send you my novel a chapter at a time and you can respond with feedback at your leisure. I won’t send you another chapter until you’re through with the previous one, so you…[Read more]

I just have all the stories planned out in my head and stored away somewhere, so when I’m finished with one I pull out the next, dust it off,  and begin. But they are not long books, so it’s not as impressive as it initially sounds.

  • So far, I’ve had one person generously offer to help critique my current story (you can find the first chapter posted in the Contemporary Fiction Writers forum,) but I’d love to find more. If anybody is interested, please let me know. I’d be happy to critique/comment in exchange, but I think it would have to be via email rather than on the forum,…[Read more]

Hello, I’m Zee (at least online.) Since I finally found the location of this thread, I figured I’d introduce myself properly. I’m a mid-thirties mother of two, late of Central Asia, now of St. Louis, Missouri, which happens to be the flattest and coldest place I’ve ever lived.

I’ve been writing all my life, but have only recently got into writing…[Read more]

    For Dunya again:

    1. When was the last time you tried something new?

Do you mean something new to eat? I don’t know, I don’t really like new foods. If you mean doing something new, well, I’m currently trying out what it’s like living in a plastic tent. With a four month old baby who isn’t mine. That’s new.

    2. Who do you compare yourself…[Read more]

  • Hi Claire! Nice to see you. I recently joined up here too, but didn’t manage to stumble on the Introduce Yourself thread until just now.

Lots of great articles and ideas on this site!

For Anna, the main character of a previously-written story (she’s coming back.)

    1. If you could instantly become an expert in something, what would it be?

I’d love to be an expert at life, but that’s too general. If I was a better cook, I know my husband would be happier, so maybe I’ll pick that. Yes. I’d be an expert in the kitchen.

    2. What’s…[Read more]

I actually haven’t received an email from you yet. If you’ve changed your mind about critiquing for me, that’s fine, but I just wanted to let you know in case you thought I’d received it.

Thanks for sharing the beginning of your story, Gracie! You’ve certainly got a dramatic opening and a lot of vivid, in the moment description. Well done. The one thing I’d watch for is to be sure you stay in Chena’s POV throughout the scene. That doesn’t mean you have to keep it for the entire story, or even the entire chapter, but the current…[Read more]

    • Thank you.

I can just imagine Eitan, (the one reading it for historical accuracy), giving me a knowing look, /Haven’t heard //that// before, have you?/ Ahh well, need to work on that…

I emailed you…though my email was having trouble a few weeks ago. I’d like to check to make sure it went through? I’d love to read your next chapter!

For Dunya, the secondary main character in my WIP:

    1.  How are you like the person who created you?

I’m also pretty good at pretending things are fine when they aren’t.

    2.  What is your deepest fear?

Being left alone. I’ve lost too many people already. I can’t lose anyone else.

    3. What/who is your deepest love?

    I don’t know…I th…[Read more]

  • Gracie, I totally understand if you’ll be busy, but if you’re willing to help, I don’t mind if it takes a while. I could send you the story chapter by chapter, and I wouldn’t send a new one until you were through with the one that came before, so you wouldn’t feel backlogged. And you could give as much or as little critique as you felt in the mood…[Read more]

Sure, that sounds good. I’m still figuring out all the nuts and bolts of this site. Here’s my email: btznvnt@gmail.com

Now you can just send an email to me, and then I’ll have your address, and you won’t have to put it on the forum at all.

  • I’m new, so I hope you all don’t mind me jumping in to comment. Just wanted to say thanks to you, Rebekah, for being so willing to share your struggles and questions, and for having the humility to take even the painful advice in the spirit it’s meant. And to the rest of you, thanks for sharing your wisdom! I’ve also recently self-published…[Read more]

I went looking for it and I STILL haven’t found it. LOL. Anyway, I’m in my middle thirties, so a bit older than some of you here, I suspect.

I have self-published two books so far, Wrong Place, Right Time, and Final Chance. They’re the two prior stories in the series I’m currently working on. You can find them on Amazon, but they’re published…[Read more]

  • Thanks for reading, Gracie! I appreciate it. Yes, this is by no means a finalized draft, so I’m sure there are plenty of typos lurking. At this point, I’m looking more at story flow, possible plot holes, character development–stuff like that.

Would you be interested in giving me a more in-depth critique of the whole thing as I go along? If so,…[Read more]

    • Okay, here’s the idea. Would you be willing to put your email up here? On this thread? It won’t show on the ‘recent activity’ page.

Unless someone’s specifically looking for this thread (or a part of the conversation) they shouldn’t find it. And then you can erase what you put on this thread, where you can’t on the other.

      • Sure, that sounds good. I’m still figuring out all the nuts and bolts of this site. Here’s my email: btznvnt@gmail.com

    • No! I still would like to critique! I sent an email to you, it just didn’t go through. I will be trying again as soon as I’m done with this post.

    • Ok, I sent it.

  • Zee replied to the topic New Writer Here in the forum Fantasy Writers 6 days, 12 hours ago

Well, I went ahead and posted the first chapter of my WIP on the Contemporary Fiction Writers forum, because I think it might fit a bit better there than here…but I’d love feedback from anyone and everyone. In fact, I’d really like to find a couple of critique partners who’d be willing to give me a more in-depth chapter-by-chapter look at the…[Read more]

  • As this is the third book in a series, it might be a little confusing to just jump in–so, a little background is in order. While the series genre is Romantic Suspense, we also have some fantasy/alternative history elements at play due to the fact that the stories are set in Sevia. It’s a fictional Eastern European country, plagued by unrest and…[Read more]
