Ladies and gentlemen, it was a tremendous fight. Such heavy blows were struck on each side that I thought none would survive. But they have all pressed through, and one team has emerged the winner.
I present you the scores.
Team 1: 36,480
Team 2: 18,871
Team 3: 8,964

Ooh, perfect! I’m doing some of this in my own story (which is fantasy, granted, but does have other races in it).
I think the first thing to keep in mind is that you will almost never be able to avoid offending everyone. There’s always going to be someone who takes something the wrong way. So don’t freak out too much to start with,…[Read more]

@taylorclogston I would have expected most of the book to take place in ’72, which @toklaham-veruzia confirmed. I think I’ll have to watch the rest of the story play out before I can say for sure whether I’m a fan of that technique (starting the book on the edge of the climax) or not. Like Daeus said, it did get me involved right away. The…[Read more]

I’ve honestly never thought about the pros and cons of revealing or hiding aspects of a character early on in a story. As I’m thinking about it, it seems the one thing I’d avoid is the completely mysterious character.
In Six of Crows, all the character are introduced with…[Read more]

@toklaham-veruzia I read the newest post on your blog, and wanted to suggest you watch I Am Mother if you have access to Netflix. It’s a pretty different movie about what it means to be a mother, sort of. And it has fantastic practical effects. Anyway, if you watch it, let me know what you thought!

@toklaham-veruzia I’m ashamed to say I wasn’t expecting much when I saw it was fantasy flash fic, but that was great. Good job evoking worldbuilding without making me feel like you were just using this as a teaser for a full book.

Dilemma: I’ve got conflicting feedback on my blurb. Some say I should change it, others that I shouldn’t.
I’m in search of opinionated people to help clear me out of this muddle.
Here’s what I had:
In the beginning, the Songkiller sang chaos into the fabric of the world. Now, he’s returning to finish his dark symphony…
Exton hunts to red…[Read more]

I’m interested. I’m not writing nearly as much as I used to (or reading, even though I have at least a dozen novels on my shelves I haven’t read yet). I have a website (I call it a #blogsite because I use it mostly to talk about how I’m failing miserably as a writer) and even that’s only sporadic. I might get there more often if I knew people were…[Read more]

@toklaham-veruzia Congrats on your repeated publishing! (and I’m happy I finally got to one of these before it was too late).
Your story made me chuckle, so points for that =P It feels exactly like the kind of stuff I wrote in high school.

Hey SE people!
We’ve launched a cool new feature on the forum called groups.
You can find them in the nav bar like so:

Groups are hubs for writers to gather around something they share in common. They include a Facebook-like feed and most of them also include their own forums.
So far there are three types of groups:
1. Word war…[Read more] -

Hey guys. I’m sorry it’s been so dead around here. Definitely a large portion my fault. Kind of hard to keep a guild running when the guild master falls off the face of the earth.
However, it has come to my attention recently that this is not relegated to Knaphollow only. A couple of the guild’s are completely without leaders, most are floun…[Read more]
