That sounds super cool! I’ve been insanely busy recently with life and my day job and haven’t hardly even been writing, so this might help me ease back into writing life and the forums once my busy season cools down a bit.

Hmm. Interesting stuff.
I’ve (very) unprofessionally edited a book my brother wrote, and I think I somewhat followed the process as described above, but I’ve been interested in working with an actual editor to see their process, but I guess to have something edited I need to have something TO edit. 😉

Great advice there! Prioritizing lists is something I’ve been doing recently. Right now I have a lot of work deadlines piling up, being that April 1 is the start of a new quarter. So I made a list of all the things I absolutely have to get done by the end of the week. (Way too much, by the way, procrastination is a nasty thing.)
The last couple…[Read more]

Bethany replied to the topic World building: weather in the forum Announcements 5 years, 7 months ago
Weather… hmm. I haven’t thought much about weather (besides the probably cliche of tying in rain with a depressed character or depressing circumstances), but this gets the gears turning of how to incorporate weather in the future.

Rylie sniffed the drink she was given. She didn’t know what it was, but it certainly wasn’t coffee. Not the kind she knew, anyway.
“If the secret is what they serve here, I’ll take you up on that,” she addressed the dark haired stranger.

(( Oh. My. So excited when I saw this! Now to see if I can keep up. ))

Age: Young-ish. Probably 18-20, though maturity and physical age do not always walk hand in hand.
Looks: Long hair, messy, usually tied back; a little shorter than average (although you would do well not to…[Read more]

Bethany replied to the topic World Building. A History in the forum Announcements 5 years, 8 months ago
Most of the time when I’ve written in historical fiction the stories are set in the real world, so more research and less world building was needed.
The one that I did create from scratch I didn’t do a lot of planning to begin with, as I was writing a bunch of short stories that didn’t all fit together in a coherent form. After those stories were…[Read more]

Bethany replied to the topic Has anyone read books by Bryan Davis? Anyone? in the forum Knaphollow Writing Discussions 5 years, 9 months ago
@kari-karast Haha, yes, very much so! Pretty sure I’ve read every original Sherlock short story and novel by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Not that I’m recommending them all to most readers, but I can’t deny I enjoy Sherlock Holmes way too much! 😉

Wow, that’s crazy! I just stumbled across the Dragons series at my local library and checked out the first book because it looked good. I had never heard of the author before, I was just going from the description on the back and skimming a little. But hearing there are others recommending them is getting me excited to start reading!

@esjohnson 😀 I’ve written a story from the perspective of a sailor on the ship during Paul’s shipwreck at Malta, one from a 1st person POV through Peter’s eyes when he betrayed Jesus, and one about Jesus’ appearance on the road to Emmaus. I think if I write any more in the future though I’ll use totally made up characters in that time setting…[Read more]
