So proud of you, Em! This is so neat to see! And the whole idea of a spaceless race paints a picture of endurance and depth. Thank you for sharing this, girlie!

Coralie commented on the post, Time Management Isn’t Enough to Build a Powerful Writing Habit 3 years, 8 months ago
Well, this is timely.
I’ve been struggling through trying to learn how to better manage my time and energy the last six months. I’ve come to the conclusion that something has to change. Balancing writing and teaching was an utter PAIN, but determination and grit allowed me to make at least some progress. Once I had chosen to leave the formal…[Read more]

I love this! My WIP is a Cinderella retelling from the stepsister’s pov. She, her sister, and her mother are all traditionally villains in the tale, and I wanted to maintain that exterior (with a bit of a twist, of course 😉 ). But some days that makes the unlikable and distant, closed-off character vibe a struggle! Thanks for sharing! A great…[Read more]

Themes aren’t really as much an issue (dark vs. lighter stories) so much as content, length, and target audience.

Yeah, I’m not familiar with the Ranger’s Apprentice specifically, but there are always exceptions. I found an article that may be more helpful to you. There are multiple elements that go into it, and this is for general purposes, but an overlook is this:
MG:
Age of readers: 8-12
Length: 30-50,000 words
Content: No profanity, graphic violence…[Read more]

Hey, Beth! Nice to see someone on here! 😀
Having any language at all automatically rules out middle grade as an option. It sounds like your story might fit better as YA. I hope this helps!

I love your last line. That’s the kind of suckerpunch you want to end on. This is an inspiring article! I didn’t relate to the examples you gave as thoroughly since I haven’t read the stories you used, but I still got the point and sort of followed along with my own characters and found myself asking how I could apply what you’ve said. Thank you…[Read more]

@phoenix I second the Young Writer’s Workshop! It’s excellent for community. I love SE and I find their articles most helpful, but the community on YDubs is far more active and expansive.
Goodreads also has a writing community which is fairly active. I’m not on there as much, personally, anymore, but I know there are several writing groups that…[Read more]

Coralie replied to the topic Writing a fantasy (Werewolf) novel: Am I doing things right? in the forum Fantasy Writers 4 years, 7 months ago
@ka_modina Going back to your original question, I must first say I appreciate your heart here and your struggle.
Personally, I’m not a vampire or werewolf kind of reader. It’s just not done well often and I’m not a huge fan of vampires in general. Now, I’ve seen them done where I did appreciate them (ie. The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen or…[Read more]

Oh, thank you for your lengthy reply. And about the religion in my story, well, it’s not focused at all. The moon goddess thing is for dialogue necessity. For example: “By Thor’s hammer, I will not let you.” or “Thank the moon goddess, you’re alive!” –Something like that.
And yes, I would rather be ashamed if someone found out that I’m a…[Read more]
