Loved the inclusion of “It’s a Wonderful Life”.
Natural outcomes is sometimes hard for me. Like what’s natural? People getting what they deserve; sowing what they reap? Or, bad people sometimes getting away and good people getting hurt? I personally think it’s a mixture of both, on earth anyways. We all get our dues after death. How do you…[Read more]

I’ve been waiting for this article, and it’s great! It really got me to thinking about my protagonist and his struggles.
I’ve never heard the defamiliarization concept before. I want to make my story an allegory, but am stuck on the right way to go about it. I’ll be sure to look more into this.
You said “I just haven’t seen this literary d…[Read more]
@taylorclogston I had no idea there was so many points supporting this.
Though I have heard of the concept before.
My brother actually mentioned that to me a while back. But he didn’t give any facts he just kept laughing and saying “Jar-Jar’s a SITH!” 😄
Thanks for pointing all this out. I’ll need to look into it. I don’t spend any time l…[Read more]
@his-bard I agree, Disney was definitely a step backward for Star Wars. The only one I like is “Rogue One”. which I was pleasantly surprised with.
While I do want an Obi-wan Kenobi movie (he’s one of my favorite characters), I have a bad feeling they’d just butcher it.
Why would everything Jarjar’s fault? lol, I know most people HATE him. Bu…[Read more]
Welcome to Story Embers! You don’t know me, and I don’t know you….SO HI (╭☞ᵔᗜᵔ)╭☞
I’m also previously home-schooled and a self-taught writer. Except I’ve only been writing for a few years. 🙂
I really like this line of your philosophy “My pen is my sword, and with it, I write God’s story.”
btw, how do you feel about Star Wars? *sits forward intently*
I’ve never heard of Frank Peretti. Or of anything ever being considered Christian Horror. lol. But I’ll be sure to look into it.
Yeah, I’ve finished the book. It definitely had that 70’s Star Wars feel and I liked that. I’m going to read the second book next month. Have you read Tarkin? It’s my favorite Star Wars book.
I used to u…[Read more]
Welcome Back! I’ve wondered when you’d come back. 😃
“So what’s going on?” Well the first thing that comes to mind is the announcement about the “Fawkes” article series that will be going on in the first week in May. Never read it myself, but I just ordered the book and can’t wait.
Besides that, just the usual. Beautiful poems have b…[Read more]
Exactly! Horror makes no sense, especially to a christian. Why would some one want to fill their mind with that kind of stuff?
When I say I won’t read romance, I mean the genre itself. I’m ok with romance being a sub plot in a book, just not the main plot. You know what I mean?
You obsess over Star Wars too!? YAY
Wait……Did you…[Read more]
@theresa-play I’ve never heard of Chuck Black before but I just looked him up and his books look interesting, so it’s going into my tbr. But between you and me there’s over 100 books on that list.😋
“What do you read?” is such an open question! How to answer? Basically I’ll read anything but romance and horror.
Currently reading Star Wars “…[Read more]
@brandon-miller I’ve never thought about having beta readers before.(mainly because I’m not really at that point yet.) I have posted a (super) short story or Flickr and asked for critique, but they mostly gave polite assurance that it was “good”.¯_(ツ)_/¯
Also, I can’t imagi…[Read more]
Just finished reading it.
let me just say that Lenora is adorable!
I love how you made her father a glass maker. And who would come up with the ridiculous idea of glass slippers other than a child. I thought his was quite clever.
Why does her call her “his little light”. Does this have a part to play later in the story?
@ethan-mitchell Hi there!
I literally just added “All Quiet on the Western front” to my Goodreads “To Read list”. lol
I dabble in drums. Just for fun , definitely not orchestra level.
I play video games as well. Mainly Minecraft and Halo. I spend way more time reading though. 🙂
What’s your favorite fantasy books?
@scribbles For some reason I didn’t get the notification and now I’m late saying goodbye 😥
💐I’m sooooo happy that you’ve found your next step; and I pray that it carries you to higher ones. <3
I’ll miss you and your squirrels. I hope you’ll be able to grace us with your presence every so often with an update. Until then, stay safe, eat doughnu…[Read more]
@epicaddie2 I’ve never heard of that book before. It sounded interesting though so I added it to my Goodreads 😛 LOVE Narnia!!
Btw .Have you read “The Moonstone” by Wilkie Collins. It’s a 19th century English detective novel. It’s one of my favorites!
Thanks! I’ll read that.
I’ve actually got a burst of “arty” creative energy this week. 😱I know, weird, right? Anyway I’v decided to decorate my writing notebooks; I’m currently on number two. I’m just gonna see how long it last then get back to writing :p
Favorite song? It changes regularly, but currently it’s “Natural” by Imagine…[Read more]
@epicaddie2 Welcome back! I don’t believe we’ve met? So HI!
My faves are also fantasy and historical fic. I’m always looking for book recommendations. So what’s your favorite book in each of those genres?
I also watch CrashCourse, but I mainly watch their world history videos.
I’ve been having trouble verifying facts for my wip; so I’ll have to…[Read more]
Thanks guys. He went around with his eyes shut for two days. We had to put goop in is eyes for a week and then drops in for another few days. He now only has one scratch along his left cornea, which the doctor says it’s probably because he sleeps with his eye slightly open.
To sum it all up, he’s out of dan…[Read more]

Can’t thank you enough for this article. I loved the example you gave for the backstory bit. My protagonists voice seemed so stale (especially compared to the very interesting side characters). Whilst reading though, I was flooded with ideas; I think I might of fixed him! Hopefully. Now to write it all down before I forget. 🙂
