@kate storms. That is cool. How many pieces of your soul do you have to sell to get a painting of yourself by @ethryndal?
@ethryndal XD okay, thanks. Don’t ask me why I said graduate school. Something with the expression that impressed itself on me…

Sam Kowal replied to the topic What does it look like for God to be alive in your story? in the forum Themes 8 years, 2 months ago
@daeus-lamb There’s some really long and deep replies on here. I would just add, for something simple:
A story with God alive in it should make people suck in a little breath and say ‘Oh. ThereΒ is a King in all of this. And heΒ is good.’

@kate Your profile picture looks like an elf who has just gotten out of graduate school for the summer studying Mineralogy.
It’s kinda cool

@joyofemberly π Yeah. You should branch out into fantasy. Fantasy is awesome… yeah. A lot of people on Story Embers write fantasy.
Hmm. You know, I should know that. There’s mainly epic or high fantasy, urban fantasy, Young adult fantasy, portal fantasy and medieval/historical fantasy, so I would say five main ones.

@naomijackson :O Nine!?
That is epic. And impressive. And… yeah. You definitely belong here. Don’t feel awkward, I beg you.
What is your debut novel about?
XD I remember Highlights for Children! Just a little bit, it was a long time ago I read it. I might have even read your publication without knowing it

Sam Kowal replied to the topic Where to world build in the forum Research and Worldbuilding 8 years, 2 months ago
@theresa-play I had no idea that existed! That is epic. It’s like a guideline for worldbuilding. And then you have it all in one database… I might be using that from now on

@happyholly_c π I’ve made Lego shorts, too. They were terrible. Besides that, mostly fantasy/medieval short films that I wrote the scripts and acted in. I’m always coming up with stories, although most of the time actually filming them doesn’t work XD
I’ve heard of people making sort of freelance promo films for companies, to help sell their…[Read more]

Cool! π π That’s a nice job of being concise with the synopsis. I have trouble with that

Sam Kowal replied to the topic I need help with something! in the forum General Writing Discussions 8 years, 2 months ago
There’s sort of a difference between my top three most asked questions and the most gripping ones I have right now.
Of course, something like ‘How to create the most amazing characters ever’ is something I want to know, but that’s kinda too general to be helpful. So, I guess a very specific one…
1. What makes a character’s flaws…[Read more]

@kayla-joy You could have the love interest younger, and also be the mentor, I think. He doesn’t have to be old to be training her. I think you can get the best of both things π

@ethryndal maybe we can just have a civil war to figure it out. Although I think everyone’s leaning towards ‘Emberlings’

Some of those are my favorite books list, too. I especially like Narnia and Harry Potter, and although I’ve never read Wingfeather I’m waiting to when I can get them. Do you have a favorite book in the HP series?

Sam Kowal replied to the topic The Importance of Fantasy in the forum General Writing Discussions 8 years, 2 months ago
@brandon-miller I think fantasy’s strength comes in part from its freedom and ability to create wonder. Fantasy is the genre where anything can happen- where writers uncork primal wonders, raise and tear down new worlds and cultures, create laws and universes spurred on by unlimited creativity. This gives fantasy a boundless feel, which in turn…[Read more]
