Hi, everyone! My name is Joy (as you might have already guessed, lol). I’m in my late, late teens, teacher by day, writer and daydreamer by night and the weekends. Huge fan of all things BBC (Merlin, anyone?) and book-related. Used to write romance stories – don’t try to find any of my previous works unless you want to die of embarrassment – but now am thinking of branching out into fantasy. I look forward to making friends, learning from the masters, and growing as a writer!

Hi Joy! What kind of fantasy are you interested in writing?

@joyofemberley Welcome! Me and my assistant, Aberdeen the Authorosarus (he’s an ink-drinking, book-eating dinosaur), give you a hearty handshake! 😃🦖
What are some of your favorite books?
I think dinosaurs are cooler than dragons. 🦖April 21, 2018 at 10:41 am #31371Anonymous
Epic fantasy, I think… I love the idea of making up new worlds. This probably sounds like a silly question, but how many genres of fantasy are there?
Hi, nice to meet you! I love the Blades of Acktar series by Tricia Mingerink, also anything by Charles Dickens 🙂 If you knew any other good Christian fantasy books, I’d love to find out about them! What do you write?April 21, 2018 at 10:46 am #31377Mariposa Aristeo@mariposa
@joyofemberley I’ve actually read hardly any fantasy, mainly just The Chronicles of Narnia, so I’m afraid I can’t offer any recommendations.
I write and illustrate children’s books (most of them middle-grade sci-fi). 🙂

@joyofemberley Welcome to Story Embers! If you’re hoping to delve into fantasy, you’ve come to the right place. We have many fantasy writers and readers here. 😉

@joyofemberley This site has a good list of fantasy subgenres.

@joyofemberly 😀 Yeah. You should branch out into fantasy. Fantasy is awesome… yeah. A lot of people on Story Embers write fantasy.
Hmm. You know, I should know that. There’s mainly epic or high fantasy, urban fantasy, Young adult fantasy, portal fantasy and medieval/historical fantasy, so I would say five main ones.

I saw that you liked BBC, and I had to ask: Are you a Whovian?

Ah, yes. BBC. Also known as the place that everyone talks about but is really hard to partake in if you don’t have cable. Yeah.
I can never decide if I like fantasy or sci-fi better. I tend to lean towards sci-fi, but by all means try out fantasy! Some of my favorite books have come from that genre.
Do you, by any chance, play any instruments?

@JoyofEmberly Did I hear someone say BBC? 😉 I don’t watch Merlin, but Sherlock is my favorite TV show ever. Have you seen it?
Anyway, I’m glad you’re joining us! How long have you been writing?
WAKANDA FOREVER!May 3, 2018 at 2:23 am #33408Anonymous
Hi! Sorry, no, I’m not a Whovian. I actually never really understood that show, but if you want to tell me about it, that would be great!
Hello! I’m not a massive fan of sci-fi (my brother loves it), but I prefer fantasy. Still, writing in all genres is good practice 🙂 I used to play piano when I was little; I loved the practical but hated the theory, so I stopped after Grade Two. What about you?
Do my eyes deceive me, or do I spot a fellow Wakandan? Nice to meet you! And yes, I LOVE Sherlock! It’s so funny and serious at the same time. “It’s a head. A severed head!” “Just tea for me, thanks.”
I’ve been writing stories since I was about 9, which makes it…wow, nearly ten years. I’ve been on something of a slump for the past year or so, but things are slowly turning themselves around. How long have you been writing? Also, did you see Infinity War yet? (Sorry, just had to ask.)
Really nice to meet everyone and sorry I took so long to respond!May 3, 2018 at 11:22 am #33433Gabrielle Pollack@gabriellepollack
@JoyofEmberly Sherlock is great. XD I love how John and Sherlock interact.
I’m glad you’re coming out of your slump. 🙂 I’ve been writing for about three, going on four years. 🙂 Yes, I have! 😀May 3, 2018 at 11:41 am #33437Kayla Joy@kayla-joy
Did I hear someone mention Sherlock?
I love Sherlock. I have watched all the way to John’s wedding. I wish they would come out with another season… or 2, or 3… or a million. 🙂
