Oof. I’ve been so busy, I haven’t had time to write at all, even though I’ve really wanted to! I’m mostly struggling with trying to come up with a good resolution for the novel I’ve been working on. Maybe over Thanksgiving break I can finally get it finished? Lol. For this week, I want to least plot/outline the resolution, so I have a plan for…[Read more]

Cool! Thanks for starting the thread @gabriellepollack.
I’m working on finishing my novel, working title Speak to the Sea. Here’s the blurb that I’ve come up with for it:
“They say the cure for anything is salt water. But can it really wash away a fatal mistake?”
Lucas Thornswood never meant to hurt anyone. But when he makes a fatal mistake…

Gabrielle replied to the topic Pixar? in the forum Avensbeck Writing Discussions 6 years ago
I love how Pixar does their endings. I’ve seen it described as not necessarily the ending that everyone hoped for, or that the characters expected, but it’s the ending that the story and characters needed. (Minor spoiler: Like in Up or Cars 3). I’d like to figure out how they build up to those endings, and incorporate that into my own writing.

Well, I didn’t get my WIP finished like I’d hoped to. But I’m also trying not to stress, and take things one thing at a time, so maybe that was a good thing. 🙂 I’m hoping this’ll be the week I get ‘er done, but I also don’t want to put too much pressure on myself.

Well, school starts for me today, so I’ve been pretty busy getting ready! I did manage to make a lot of progress though, and I think I’ll be able to finish the first draft of my novel today or tomorrow!

@gabriellepollack Pitch Wars is an event where authors submit to have the chance to be mentored by an already-published author. They’ll help you revise your manuscript, and then pitch it to agents and publishers. It looks really cool! Here’s the link: http://pitchwars.org/

Doing good so far! I’m working away at my WIP (hoping to finish it before school starts again). My goal is to knockout 1500+ words per day, and so far I’ve been able to meet/beat that goal.
Long term goals: finish first draft by August 20, revise/get critiques over the fall/winter, and polish and submit to Pitch Wars in the spring.

Hi everybody! Anyone else doing Camp NaNoWriMo this July? I’ve started a cabin with some friends from Nadine’s Ninjas (Nadine Brandes’ Street Team), and we’re still looking for potential ninjas to join.
I’ve done regular NaNo once before, and it really helped me make progress. This will be my first time doing Camp, and I’m excited about it!…[Read more]

*Update*: So I went ahead and started a cabin with some friends from Nadine’s Ninjas (Nadine Brandes’ street team). If anyone still interested in joining however, it’s pretty open–we prefer fans of Nadine’s books of course, but we won’t be too nitpicky. 😉

Mine’s titled Word Play, and it finds a home at https://gabriellenblog.wordpress.com/. I blog 1-2 book reviews with detailed content guides per month, along with 1-2 writing/author advice related posts. I’m also on Twitter (@WordPlayBlog) and upload links to my posts there.

@gabriellepollack –Me neither! I’ve done regular NaNoWriMo once, and though I didn’t win, it helped me to get about 20,000 words in on my manuscript in less than a month. Nice thing about Camp NaNoWriMo is you can choose your own goals instead of pushing for 50,000 words in a month. I thought Camp NaNoWriMo looked a little more relaxed and fun,…[Read more]

Hey all! I’m looking into writing more short stories, esp. for anthologies. I’m curious to hear about how you all plot short stories. I’m mostly familiar with plotting novels using the three-act structure. Do short stories follow this same pattern, just condensed? Or is there a different plot structure/pattern I should be looking at? Any and all…[Read more]

@morreafirebird Very cool! Jaye L. Knight and C.S. Lewis are epic for sure. I haven’t read K.A. Emmons or Gillian Bronte Adams (yet). Have you reviewed any of their books before?
@naomijackson Good idea! Mine’s here: Word Play

@morreafirebird Not the infamous question! Lol. Authors I’m into are Nadine Brandes, Sara Ella, Marissa Meyer, and Anne Elisabeth Stengl. Favorite books/series would be Jane Eyre, The Count of Monte Cristo, The Hunger Games, The Lunar Chronicles, etc. I like a good mix of classics and YA lit. What about for you?

Gabrielle replied to the topic Summer Writing Goals in the forum Avensbeck Writing Discussions 6 years, 4 months ago
My goals for the summer:
1. Finish at least the first draft of “Speak to the Sea”
2. Maybe write a short story for submission to Spring Song Press?
3. Reach 100 subscribers on my blog.
4. Finish giving feedback on all of my NetGalley arcs.

Awesome! I’ll be looking forward to that for sure. 😁
Yeah, it looks pretty cool. They’ve already published some stuff, and I recognize at least one of the authors they’ve worked with, so I thought that was a good sign.

Hello friends!
I’ve been looking around for different story contests and/or anthologies accepting submissions, similar to the one that Rooglewood Press used to do. I came across these two, and didn’t know if any of you guys had heard anything about them bef…[Read more]
