@sam-kowal Well, it looks like I’m late. And everything good has already been said. Oh well. 🙂
Btw, I will likely be kicked off the guild for inactivity, so… yeah. See ya around.

@gabriellepollack Yes… I may just have to voluntarily resign, if that’s a thing. My life was very different back in April (or whenever SE launched), and I hardly have time to write anymore, which means I don’t have much motivation to visit the site.
Maybe I’ll be back when stuff returns to normal (if that ever happens.) So long, and…

If it’s in there purely for the shock factor, it’s not appreciated.
Now, if there is a character who, as part of their personality, curses occasionally, that’s probably fine. Or if they do something vulgar so the author can show who they are, fine. But even then a graphic description is not needed.

@christianna-hellwig I really like your story. I have one suggestion: It seems to me that the boy understands a lot for a five year old. Just a touch more confusion on his part would make him feel more naive and vulnerable, I think. I left a comment on the Google Doc.

@christianna-hellwig *inward sigh* Yes, I know I haven’t been very active in the guild lately. It’s not that I don’t want to… it’s just that this has been the craziest summer if my life, and I haven’t had time for any writing at all, let alone Guid Wars.
When August comes around and things settle down, I should be able to help out in the Guild…[Read more]

@gabriellepollack I’ve always liked Bilbo’s riddle competition with Gollum.
I would say more, but I am visiting my grandparents and only have internet for a few minutes. Turns out summer is a bad time for me to do a book club…. Sorry.

Ben P replied to the topic Looking for laptop recommendations in the forum General Writing Discussions 6 years, 6 months ago
@sam-kowal Yeah, I do coding and electrical engineering. Which means I’m looking at paying $1800 for a new laptop. 🙁 (16GB RAM, 512 GB HDD, i7 processor, fancy graphics card)

Ben P replied to the topic Looking for laptop recommendations in the forum General Writing Discussions 6 years, 6 months ago
Hey, @kate
What Sam said is pretty good. I’d say the biggest factor is what exactly are you planning on doing with it?
If you just need Word and internet, then I’d recommend an i3 processor and 4GB of RAM.
For Photoshop or other more intensive programs, go with an i5 processor and 8GB of RAM.
Hard drive space is up to you, and I don’t recomm…[Read more]

@j-a-penrose I vote for @sam-kowal ’s piece. It’s very original with Lyra believing she killed her daughter.

@jenwriter17 The only suggestion I have for your piece is to possibly mention what the unnamed guy did to mess up Emmie’s family; it might connect with readers more if they know why they’re supposed to hate him so much. Besides that, it’s well done.

@sam-kowal I made some suggestions on your story, but really they’re just small stylistic things. I can’t think of any ways to vastly improve it at the moment. In other words, it’s very good! 😉

(Sorry I’m late)
Characters who are perfect stereotypes (the evil overlord, the fearless hero, the damsel-in-distress, the bumbling henchman, etc.) never connect to readers because those people rarely if ever exist in the real world. Evil rulers have doubts and fears. Heroes mess up and do the wrong thing sometimes. Real people are very…[Read more]

Hey, guys… sorry I haven’t been around to help with the Guild War. I was on vacation for a week, and then I had a wedding to go to, and this weekend there’s another wedding… I’ve been busy. 🙂
So – I don’t know if there has been a decision between @jenwriter17 ‘s piece and @sam-kowal ‘s piece, but I vote for Sam’s. It’s interesting how Lyra…[Read more]
