@jenwriter17 That’s a neat idea! I like having one person who mediates/brings together both cultures, as long as we could keep that under 2500 words. Maybe she has a problem of some kind, and the only way to fix it is by either getting the help of someone or acquiring something from both sides?

Interesting! Once I wrote this little piece in second person future tense (have I talked about this before? I don’t know, oh well), but it’s only maybe two paragraphs.
Oh, it would definitely be fun + funny to do from the sidekick’s POV!

@faith_blum This is a great article! Relating to the schedule-making that you wrote about, I tried a few weeks ago to write out and follow a personalized schedule that had everything I needed in one day on it, with some free time– to the minute. Needless to say, it didn’t work (I need a watch), but it was an interesting exercise in getting things…[Read more]

@christianna-hellwig Thanks for your feedback! Yeah, it was kind of rushed, and I might eventually rewrite it and add the other scenes that I wanted to but couldn’t for lack of time.

@christianna-hellwig Thank you! And thank you to everyone who has read through it.
@faith_blum I *finally* wrote and posted an ending that I do like, although it’s not quite as long as I had originally thought (I was planning to add one/two short bonding scenes between Loretta-Jane and Faith, but it’s fine without them and I don’t have time to…[Read more]

@faith_blum Oh yes! Sorry, I was writing it on paper and didn’t think about Google docs :/ Here’s the doc. It’s just a start for now but I’m adding more on to it on paper and will type it up today. Feel free to edit/add!

M replied to the topic I didn't intend this as poetry, but can you look at it please? in the forum Poetry Discussions 5 years, 9 months ago
@taylorclogston I thoroughly enjoyed reading this! First: this could be described as flash fiction, if you wanted to. I would say that it qualifies very loosely as poetry– yes, the feel and lyric of it is very poetic, but the form doesn’t fit into any poetic category (rhyme, meter, blank verse, line breaks, annoying loss of punctuation).

I can do some work on the first draft/editing of it also. I love Jenna’s idea of making the victim question their helper. Hm… I’ll throw together something now in case we need it, but maybe someone else can do a more concrete draft

This is amazing advice! Thank you for posting this, @faith_blum
I’ve always been a little confused about the difference between alpha and beta readers, and this is a nice, clear definition. It reminds me of the work that I have yet to do on my current 2nd draft…

All right, I’ve just read all of y’alls comments and this story sound like it’ll be pretty awesome. I made a link (here) to a doc that we can write on, and I started a little bit of something on it, but please add/change/write a new draft as you wish. (unintentional reference there but I’m keeping it) This’ll be great!

Reading this made me realize that I had forgotten the first pinch point in my wips second act! I have the others, but I especially need to work on fleshing out my midpoint so it’s more understandable, if that makes sense (ha). @faith_blum

I have an awful lot of goals for this next year, the writing ones being:
– self-publish a final draft of Skye (novel that I started in 2016)
-write a second draft of SoT (a novel that I have 75% of a first draft of as of this NaNo)
-add 40 poems and 6 shorts/flash fictions to my list of potential-anthology-works
It’ll be interesting to see how…[Read more]

@faith_blum I also support breaking until January and reinstating the weekly topics as bi-weekly topics. I’m super appreciative of all the work you’ve done as our amazing guildmistress, but am also kind of swamped writing-wise, especially after NaNo.

A weird/creepy/off in a sideways sort of way universe would be interesting– almost “Stepford Wives” style, in that both the reader and the MC know that something is wrong, but it’s just unsettling and slowly more and more obvious.
Like what @serenity and @dragongeek are saying, for the most part.
(Also, I like this prompt! It’ll be really cool,…[Read more]

@faith_blum My final word count is 14,089. I started out NaNo, but had to stop on Nov. 10 because of a wayyyy overcrowded schedule 🙁

M replied to the topic another set of eyes…please? in the forum Avensbeck Writing Discussions 6 years ago
I gave it a couple suggestions, but overall, great job! One of my best friends is in a similar situation, so I understand (at least partially) what you are going through. The emotions were conveyed well, although there were some parts that could have flowed better. I really only added some punctuation that might help with the flow. I think that…[Read more]

I’d love to add 30 pages (I’m used to writing longhand, so I count pages and average out word count for NaNo) to my zero draft. I’m revising a couple articles, so it’d be great to get those two finished this week also.

@christianna-hellwig Same. I’ve been beaten pretty badly by NaNoWriMo for three years now (very long sigh), but I’ve found that no matter if I win or not, it gives me a little push on whatever WiP I’m working on at the time. And I finished my first complete novel in last year’s NaNo (I cheated a bit and started with a 15000 word half-finished…[Read more]
