I surprisingly got a lot of writing/revising done on my short story! Excited about that. So goals for this week are to finish it, but I’ll be away so we’ll see how it goes 🙂

SleepwalkingMK replied to the topic Topic #30: The Climax and Resolution in the forum Avensbeck Writing Discussions 5 years, 7 months ago
I think a good climax answers both the internal struggle of the protagonist and the external one. In Pride and Prejudice, I think they’re one and the same, or at least very similar, so they both get resolved in the climax.
In my own story, my MCs are two bickering sisters who have to work together to accomplish their goal (get back home from a…[Read more]

@h-jones WOW! Amazing job! I made just a few comments. I absolutely love how you put in wacky dream things (like the hats her brother was wearing xD) but still made it overall more intense, scary, and real. And I love the ending :'(

@faith-blum Sorry for my inactivity recently! I’m swamped in November and December, in senior year with exams and lots of visitors. I like the idea of bi-weekly topics though.

Great job, everyone! And especially for those doing Nano. It is terribly hard but I’m cheering for you!

SleepwalkingMK replied to the topic Topic #20: Story Structure, the Hook in the forum Announcements 5 years, 10 months ago
@faith_blum Ooo, yay! I love hooks! As someone who leans more to the pantser side of writing, that is the part that usually comes to me as an idea.
My favorite series is the Chronicles of Narnia. The first page of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe starts with what would seem to be a generic “once upon a time” line. It is a narrative, kind of…[Read more]

@faith_blum Hello!! Welcome to Avensbeck!
We were calling ourselves Avensers, but I’m not too particular about it 😀
I would love to know about your writing journey, what caused you to start writing, and what some of your favorite books are (because choosing one book [and one question] is usually just too difficult) 😀

HAHA! I love this idea. Who comes up with these prompts? They’re brilliant xD I immediately thought of Studio C’s take on this, but that would be plagiarism :/
I love your ideas, guys! @jenwriter17 I love the idea of writing from the painting’s perspective, especially overhearing what people say about her. Two kinds of character to attribute to…[Read more]

@gabriellepollack Thanks! I brushed up a very short piece (around 500 words) about a character’s death from the POV of a computer and put it on. Looking forward to seeing your piece, @martina! 🙂

I like the idea of describing a monumental event. I think we already did a guild war submission about a funeral, so maybe a different event?
I think a tough thing could be coming up with “creative, original prose.” I know we all try to write with it, and I know there many unique character voices who are from the same situations, in the same age…[Read more]

Oh, wow. The others have great thoughts. I just wanted to add:
Sometimes I fear romanticism in putting emotion in my stories, that I’ll make the whole point trying to convince people only through emotion, which isn’t something I want to do. I tend to be more emotional on a whole, and my stories often reflect that, but I also want to teach people…[Read more]
