Aislinn Mollisong replied to the topic How do you name things in your fantasy worlds? in the forum Research and Worldbuilding 4 years, 11 months ago
Hi! I hope I can answer your questions a bit.
The way I usually name things depends on what it is. For places, I kind of use whatever I want, but with my current WIP I’ve been using words in other languages that match the place. like I have one kingdom called Magnus, after the Latin word for great. It’s the biggest kingdom on my continent (plus…[Read more]

Hi
I have dwarves
They live in mountains. Well, not IN mountains. Near them. In ‘fairy chimneys’ like in Laodecia. But they are more like cretes from The Ilyon Chronicles.

Before I start saying anything, let me just announce that I have nothing deep or super meaningful to add to this . . . anyways here we go.
As someone who has anxiety and ADHD and some other stuff, I can tell you that almost every book I’ve ever read where a character has things like that get it wrong. (And that’s maybe . . . six books. And…[Read more]

I’m so sorry I haven’t been here! I went on a couple vacations, and then did a bunch of 5 Day Clubs, and then was grounded. I’ll try to be on more often, I promise.

@bigideaskc THEY’RE AMAZING. Although, if you don’t have much time I wouldn’t suggest trying to read it. It takes ME two full days of nonstop reading to get through the entire thing. (I have a special book with all of the LOTR books and also appendices)

Hi everyone! So, I don’t know if this really needed its own topic but I couldn’t find anything else resembling it and didn’t want to spam or be off-topic.
So a couple of days ago I got some emails from something called hope*writers that I’d signed up for some webinar thing. The emails looked kind of weird, a good amount of typos and nothing was…[Read more]

Um, hi @mariposa ! Could I perhaps be in this story?
JUST IN CASE YOU WOULD LIKE TO PUT ME IN, HERE IS HOW AISLINN IS WRITTEN:
I’m a hero, like the most crazy reckless danger-magnet hero ever
My right arm is bionic
I call people naff-nuts and use random words in random languages
“FIGHT ME”
Huge dark eyes, lots of dark…[Read more]

It’d be like a choose-your-own-adventure story! Or, like the narrator talking to the MC or reader. I’ve actually tried this before. It’s pretty fun. Especially if your narrator is super snarky.

Rolena let me borrow this book a few weeks ago and I fell in love. Certainly one of the best allegory-type books I’ve ever come across.

@kari-karast Really, I only know how to write Aislinn and Kayden because of my own stuff, and I don’t know if it would help anyone else. I don’t have normal PTSD anyway. -shrugs- Totally going to use stuff on this page though.

Is it wrong that I actually loved this character when you first described her? Because I totally do. Even more since you explained her arc, but seriously, meeting her like you described her in the first post would not make me dislike her at all. She seems like a very awesome charrie to start an adventure with.

YKYAWW you’re at a driver’s ed class and your instructor says ‘A Good driver knows how to correctly manage time and space’ and you immediately start brainstorming this nebulous thing involving time-traveling space pilots who are very bad at the time-traveling part but very good at the space piloting.

(These may have been said before . . .)
YKYAWW people have to stop you in the middle of a sentence and ask, “Is this a real person, one of your internet friends, or a character?” because there really isn’t any distinction.
YKYAWW your siblings are sick of playing with you because you kinda sorta accidentally are always the main character and get…[Read more]
