@brandon-miller… Should we act like brother and confuse her? Bahahahaha! No. We are not brothers… I just like teasing Brandon because he’s my Guildmaster, and I feel like he can take my teasings… Do we sound like brothers?
And I am soooo glad my ramblings are helpful.
So I was thinking that although she wants him to…[Read more]

Hey! I really enjoyed that! My favorite part is the beginning:
‘I didn’t know what to do. The whole town stood there, waiting for me to speak, waiting for my decision.
“Hey, um, just so you know.” Clay stepped forward, hands shoved into his pockets. There was something in his eyes… I tried to look at his feelings, but the…[Read more]

Hi! Sorry I didn’t see this until now. 🙂 I think everyone has had some really good thoughts! I would say don’t be afraid to write romance, even if you haven’t actually had experience with it. I have dated people, and I learned things from that, but I learned more from other people’s good (and bad) relationships. You can watch…[Read more]

I would love to read it for you!
It has been an amazing blessing to me, that I get to teach karate. And on that note, I recommend that you do not punch boards… It can be dangerous. Who knows when the board might punch back?
And I am glad I’ve been helpful. Jane Maree has some really good points, that I would like to add…[Read more]

@anne-of-lothlorien
Disclaimer: I didn’t read everything that everyone else has said so this might be repeating stuff, sorry. 😛When it comes to romance, there’s two things you have to think about before including it.
1: What does it do to advance the plot/add higher stakes/increase tension?
2: How does it help the themeatic character…[Read more] -

Well, glad I asked for help! 😀
@karthmin You’re revision was excellent. I might just go with it, but for whatever reason “with a beautiful life” just didn’t seem to flow 100% for me. I tried reworking it and came up with an alternate version which may or may not be any better.

Okay… So the way it seems to be going, it sounds more like a major plot point than a minor one. If you’re gonna make it a minor plot point, I think you would need to make is far far more implicit then it sounds to me as a reader. In fact maybe don’t imply it… that way when you get to the end the reader may not have been…[Read more]

@anne-of-lothlorien hmm, that seems like it could work. Since it’s not the central part of the plot, it will probably be on the side quite a bit, especially if it’s not going to be causing a lot of conflict. Just slipping in a little hint of love here and there and having a few thoughts would probably get it by fine. Again, I have little clue…[Read more]

@anne-of-lothlorien and @writercatherine There are multiple ways to answer the riddle. Hope was my original one, but there’s also love – which I like a lot. Is it alright to have a few different answers? Somehow, it doesn’t seem quite right.
The last stanza also seems like it might cause a bit of confusion as to what the answer might be. Wou…[Read more]

It’s not that hard.
Um…I don’t really know what to say.
1. Don’t shy away from the strong emotions because that’s kinda the whole theme.
2. Be subtle. Unless you’re writing satire and trying to be funny. Just because a character has strong feelings doesn’t mean they want to share them ALL with the reader. Sheesh. Think…[Read more]

I agree with @morreafirebird in the difference between love and attraction. Those are two words that get used interchangeably, in our culture, far more than they should.
And on top of that I think it’s important to remember what @evelyn said: “Two people can love each other but still not be compatible for…[Read more]

1. I’d go for it. It might actually make the novel more realistic, though that depends on what age these characters are. If they’re over sixteen, I think it might be natural for it to happen (though it does depend on their upbringing). As for how hard it is…I find it easy? I had a couple in a novel I wrote over a year ago…[Read more]
