Hi Grace!
So has anyone experienced this before, and have advice on distancing the protagonist from yourself? When you begin character development, what do you start with?
Oh, I definitely relate to that!
Something that I’ve found really helps me is to take one trait of mine and give it to my protagonist, then build around…[Read more]

Thank you. I must admit that I haven’t been on here for awhile. I will definitely check out that article as soon as I can.
I do have a close friend who has helped me with a lot of my writing so I’ll send them a copy and see what they think.
Thank you, again 🙂

Zee replied to the topic How to write what you don't know? aka Romance in the forum General Writing Discussions 5 years, 5 months ago
I know the conventional wisdom is, “Write What You Know” but I think this can be interpreted very broadly. You may not have lost your entire family in war, for example, but most of us have experienced painful loss–the death of a friend or relative, or even a beloved pet. You may never have been “in love” but you’ve probably seen people around you…[Read more]

@r-m-archer That does make sense. I’m not too worried about plagiarism, so hopefully that’s good!
@literatureforthelight That is SO AWESOME that you read it in Chinese- although it’s not surprising that that would affect comprehension :).

@literatureforthelight I love fairy-tale retellings! If you’re ever looking for a Beta reader…😉 What prompted you to do a retelling?
I’m currently working on a fantasy novel. So far, the main things I’ve been working with are hard choices, distrust, a man twisted by lies, a angry prince, a gold-hearted princess, a horse named Bruce, and a bunch…[Read more]

So nice to meet you then! What stories are you working on at the moment?
Btw. thanks for explaining the Panster/Plotter thing.😄 It’s hard to pin down meanings.

Thanks, that makes a lot of sense. I’ll probable try that.
Thank you, I do struggle with plot especially in larger works. I’ll use that.
That view does help, I’ll keep that in mind. But… What’s a Panster?
Yeah, I’m more like a kid ready to order off the adult menu than a five-year…[Read more]

@literatureforthelight *waves* Hey, have we met? I’m just curious, because I happen to be a Grace also, so I kinda got a soft spot for them.😁
This is a great question.
What I did was to start a novel that I viewed as “less important”…to just kinda get some experience. I need to get an idea of how writing a novel works, and…[Read more]

Hey SE people!
We’ve launched a cool new feature on the forum called groups.
You can find them in the nav bar like so:

Groups are hubs for writers to gather around something they share in common. They include a Facebook-like feed and most of them also include their own forums.
So far there are three types of groups:

So I posted the blurb on Realm Makers. Verdict was it didn’t have a clear enough plot! (People also wanted a little stronger sense of the world it was set in.)
I’ve buckled down and tried a rewrite. What do you think?

So here’s what your suggestion would look like. The only thing I didn’t incorporate was that part about describing the setting you mentioned, Grace. I just couldn’t think of a good description off the top of my head.
I like how it reads. I think these were good ideas.

So I’m opening up three coaching slots. It’ll be a discounted price, since you’ll be doing me a service by signing up. I’m looking for 1-3 people to fill these three packages:
