I think that should work fine. I’ve actually done a similar thing in my book. My biggest, overarching villain is the lord who seizes the throne and then the lesser villains are the men who serve him, like my assassin who stalks my heroine.
I think it would only become a problem when you try to develop and focus on all three of…[Read more]

@warrioroftherealm I mean, I don’t think it’s a big problem. I actually did the exact same thing in mine. 😛 I have one villain you see at first, but after he’s out of the way, two others show up–a “small” villain and an overarching one. So as long as the plot itself is not disjointed, I think it’s perfectly fine and probably all the more…[Read more]

@warrioroftherealm  Well to put it into perspective, argentinosaurus, which was the largest dinosaur, was about 70 ft tall and 115 ft in length.  here’s how it compares to a human:Â

And yes I realize dragons and dinosaurs are not the same.

@warrioroftherealm 600 feet would be HUUUUUUGGEEE. Even 150 feet seems like a large-sized dragon to me. I mean, you can have a 600ft dragon, but that’s so powerful (and hard to feed) I don’t know how it could be fed or how anyone could possibly defeat it.

NCStokes replied to the topic Dragon Size Question in the forum Research and Worldbuilding 6 years, 9 months ago
@warrioroftherealm That’s like almost twice the size of Godzilla, for perspective. Too large? I don’t know, you’d have to be careful with large buildings and easily stepped on humans, or else you could have a mess on your hands. But if he’s, say, an almost “unreal” creature (if that makes sense), and/or his size is an important part of the…[Read more]

My first impulse is to say that a 600 foot dragon is too large. That is as tall as the Seattle Space Needle.
However, you could make it work. It would be hard to have interactions with the dragon.
So before I nix the idea I have a few questions.

OKAY MEERKATS. Apparently there’s going to be a little ‘about’ page for each Guild and Josiah wants the content for them this week, and that content is meant to be our history and legends, etc. So…I guess we should continue brainstorming. XD
So we’ve got the idea of ranks/titles, and also maybe we’ll need some history (and background on why…[Read more]

Onto the next chat about theme!
(NOTE: if you didn’t read last week’s lesson, you’d best hop over to that, because this follows on directly and could be confusing without background.)
Since theme is the base…[Read more]

OKAY I WROTE A FIRST DRAFT, GUYS.
At first I wasn’t totally convinced, but I think it ended up at least a tiny bit funny. 😛 It might not be a normal comedy, but I think it’s a good start. Better than nothing at least.
NOW IT’S TIME FOR EDITS! We’ve only got about four days, so edit away. Please add your edits in suggestions/comments so that we…[Read more]

Jane Maree started the topic {Story Theory – Week 1} What is Theme? in the forum 7 years, 6 months ago
Welcome to our first week on STORY THEORY! *hands out pizza*
So I was going to do today’s post about plotters vs pantsters, but I’d gotten halfway through and I kept getting hooked up on how to describe something because plot isn’t the beginning foundation that most people consider it to be.
The fact is that theme is the solid core that all…[Read more]

I’m going to be honest with you: I put off doing this topic for a long time for no good reason at all, but NOW I’M FINALLY DOING IT.
Basically…we’re going to develop a fictional world for our guild.
I personally thought “wow, this won’t help us write more words.” and while that is completely true, it still isn’t totally useless. I think we…[Read more]
