@daeus-lamb I can’t do it this week– I don’t have a specific problem I need help with yet. If you’d rather give the spot to someone who can use it immediately, that’s fine.

Here are some more (all from the same series):

“What do you call it when you realize you’ve been an ******* your whole life?”
“A good start?”

Aaaannnndddd I’ll take the first one. I’m working on developing four different novel ideas, so the tricky part will be picking one to focus on.

Has anyone read the Lightbringer series by Brent Weeks? I recently finished the final book and loved it, and am now searching for people who have also read it so I can talk about how awesome it is.
If you’re thinking about reading it, I posted a review on my website (https://authorzacharyholbrook.weebly.com) talking about my experience with the story.

@katy-walker I’m halfway through The Dragon Prince. So far, the plot seems solid. I’ve noticed clear, defined plot beats– Bethia’s arrival, Robert’s arrival, Altaio deciding to go to the pool and make an attempt to un-curse himself. However, something huge is missing: Altaio’s emotions. This character could be fascinating. He’s in a dark place: a…[Read more]

I’ve noticed that all the discussion threads in Knaphollow have been consolidated under one heading, ‘Knaphollow Writing Discussions’.
Also, Knaphollow has not been very active lately. Maybe we could invite some more people?

Zachary Holbrook commented on the post, Why Do Readers Enjoy Objectively Bad Books? 6 years, 5 months ago
‘Entangle readers’. I like that phrase. I shall entangle readers, and they shall never escape. *evil laugh*
On a more serious note, I think it’s rare to find a popular bad book that’s 100% bad. Often there will be at least one good element that readers latch on to. For example, I found myself loving ‘The Promised Neverland’ despite its many…[Read more]

I need to work on revision. Right now, my first drafts are top notch– but still first drafts. Ideas for revisions are coming, but very slowly, and when I try to intentionally brainstorm, I end up with a bunch of good ideas– for the wrong book. My brain keeps jumping in between two new novel concepts as well as the revision of my current draft.

@katy-walker I’m interested. I write mostly fantasy, so I can’t provide the different genre perspective you want, I’ll give feedback on the overall plot and, if I like it, I’ll go through it again with some suggestions for improving the narrative.

Zachary Holbrook replied to the topic The spoken word in the forum General Writing Discussions 6 years, 5 months ago
@kayla-skywriter One advantage of telling a story out loud as opposed to writing it is that you can use your whole body to tell your story, not just your words. Gestures and tone of voice are can convey emotions to the point where the storyteller plays an active role in the tale he’s telling– something Hoid does, although you’ll have to work a…[Read more]

@anne_the_noob14 It translates to ‘Good morning. I like Japanese’, which is a little bit outdated since I haven’t practiced my Japanese in months.

I love this story! One improvement that could be made is on the first page which leans pretty heavily on ‘telling’. If you wanted to keep this, establish in the first paragraph that Carlisle is recounting a story that she’s already lived through. Perhaps imply that she’s writing it for Zoe, which explains why she spends so much…[Read more]

I’ve written a few reviews of various stories I’ve enjoyed and posted them on my website (https://authorzacharyholbrook.weebly.com/reviews.html). My reviews attempt to fill a gap in this world– that is, I review stories don’t have enough reviews, especially if I can’t find any written from a Christian perspective.
