Ooh your story reminds me of one of my favourite shows, Psycho-Pass, which is a little similar in premise (a science-fiction psychological thriller featuring a seemingly perfect society with the main characters being the defenders of the status quo). I’ll just put the synopsis here for reference in case it is useful. From what I…[Read more]

Hmmmm… it’s difficult. I just had a look at the Fahrenheit 451 blurb and it seems to rely on the fact that the audience already somewhat knows what’s going.
Guy Montag is a fireman. In his world, where television rules and literature is on the brink of extinction, firemen start fires rather than put them out. His job is to…

Jethro, Moses’s father in law, according to Google π
and also John Ronald Reuel, yes.Β Β )
I just guessed because I once named a character Reuel after Tolkien.
As for how to make it sound generic but also interesting… I’m not really sure without employing satire π

It strikes me as sci-fi with heavy dystopian themes. I haven’t read Scythe by Neal Shusterman, but the blurbs sound similar.
It does sound interesting, though I think the prose could be tightened in a few areas, as it reads a bit ramblingly. Some bits “truth β real truth β has been accepted in all four corners of the globe.” I t…[Read more]

Hey SE people!
We’ve launched a cool new feature on the forum called groups.
You can find them in the nav bar like so:

Groups are hubs for writers to gather around something they share in common. They include a Facebook-like feed and most of them also include their own forums.
So far there are three types of groups:
1. Word war…[Read more] -

I think it’s not bad. You’ve got the situation and problem of the main plot there but I would recommend providing more details and context to give more clarity as to the type of story this is and catch the reader’s interest.
From the blurb, it seems to be an adventure story. I would not have known that it is a sci-fi because to…[Read more]

@sarah-inkdragon I don’t think you’ll find many social theorists who agree that social class can be described as a difference in belief systems. If someone talks about class, you can assume they are talking about vertical stratification in social standing, not about what elements separate my moral and political views from yours.
I think you hit…[Read more]

I’ve buckled down and tried a rewrite. What do you think?

I’m going to have to echoΒ @sarah-inkdragon here. π
I’ve finally had time to write a full-length novel for the first time in a year. And essentially, I didn’t have an outline. I knew the plot points. I knew vaguely how my character would change. I knew the first scene. So I just wrote that, and by the end, I had a vague…[Read more]
