@ericawordsmith Anything can still be done if given the right twist. If you want to write something with music-based magic, go for it.

Makes sense on both counts! (And yeah, Davis does do a good job of making lots of cool characters.

Huh. Weird.
That’s pretty high praise. I wouldn’t say I love them quite much, but they (as a unit) are definitely in my top ten favorite fantasy series. Sometimes in my top five, depending on my mood. I should probably reread them sometime. Favorite characters . . . Ashley, Walter, and Professor Hamilton, without a doubt. Yours?

@kari-karast I think you’d be hard-pressed to find a Davis fan who hasn’t read those books, haha. But yes, I have read them and very much enjoyed them! (And I actually have all signed copies, thanks to my younger sister.)

Ok, so everyone’s answers so far are good, but consider . . . THE KIWI.
(Seriously, I would eat kiwis at every meal if I could. I’ll take them over ice cream, chocolate, anything.)

I agree with the others . . . mostly. I wouldn’t remove their ability to feel the pain entirely. That’s wrong, without a doubt. It’s messing up a part of what makes us human, in a way. But to take the pain for them for a time . . . that I would do. Not permanently. Like others have said, pain is necessary for growth.
But it breaks my heart when I…[Read more]

@sarah-inkdragon Ok, cool. I like this character more and more, haha.

@sarah-inkdragon Oooh. So if he goes mute, how does he end up communicating? Signs? Writing? Mindspeaking? Astonishingly readable glares? I’m curious.
Also: YESSSSSS sibling relationships are the best. There’s a reason I write so many of them. I want to read this book now. xD

@elizabeth First off: I love the idea of an Aladdin retelling. I’ve never read one, but now I want to. And go you, trying new story types!
Like SeekJustice said, I definitely recommend reading the original version of the story instead of just going off the Disney version. (People can tell when you just go off the Disney version; trust me.)
As…[Read more]

@karthmin As Inkdragon said, not related. Also, no pacts. But we can’t help it that we’re both awesome in similar ways. 😀
I am very glad that we can provide you with a teaching moment.
@sarah-inkdragon This is a very short post to a very long reply, but: I am fascinated by the idea of Shadow, and foil characters are the absolute best. I love…[Read more]

Oh, look. I’m doing this again.
So. Breen’s main internal need is to believe she’s worth something, that she’s something more than a mere animal or a machine covered in a human skin. (Whether or not she recognizes this as an internal need is up for debate.) Because of certain events in her youth that led to her being kept alive by a magical…[Read more]

I LIVE.
Yeah. Sorry I’ve been incredibly inactive of late. Final projects were a thing. So was NaNoWriMo. Both murdered me a little bit.
Anyway. Goals.
1. Be more active on the forums maybe?
2. Work on Mechanical Heart and my UGP short stories every day.
3. Finally respond to the Moonshard RPG (on another site).
4. Finish Christmas gifts. -

I’d be a cat. Or an eastern screech owl. Both of those sound like fun. I’d have the whole cute thing going for me, while also being a silent and deadly predator. And if I’m a cat, I have an excuse to just flop down and sleep wherever I want.

I would be ‘Cuse 44 (cookies and cream, but in caramel ice cream, with candy-coated pretzel balls). I’m very close to a normal, thoroughly respectable, even boring flavor, but with a couple hidden surprises . . . and a few things that make people say, “Uh, that’s weird” at first and then “Oooh, that’s awesome.”

Hello, @mlbolangerauthor, @hope-ann, and @lady-frosttongue ! Welcome to the guild! Hope already knows me, but for the others: I’m Sarah. I don’t post much because college and writing deadlines are currently trying to murder me. But I’m happy to meet you!

16,376 words for me this month. Hopefully I’m not too late to put my wordcount in, since this is the first word war on here that I’ve been able to participate in.

@devastate-lasting Mmmmmm . . . given that, if it’s not an invitation, I’m going to get attacked by a glass tornado, I don’t think I will come and find out.
@sarah-inkdragon Ah, good to know. *thinks: though I imagine the problem is less with the mailmen and more with the country . . .* I read Eragon; that wasn’t a bad one. Fawkes I haven’t read,…[Read more]

@devastate-lasting *raises an eyebrow* Oh, is that an invitation?
@sarah-inkdragon Alas for low daily book intake. But I am curious which new novels these are. Oh, and by the way — are the messenger falcons reliable? I’m thinking of employing some at the library for long-distance book loans.

@devastate-lasting Indeed I do. But I forgive you. *teasing grin* I do wonder, though, what you’re hiding in there that requires such drastic safety precautions.
@emgc Tea would be lovely. Want any help with it?
