@sarafini Those stories sound really interesting! I’ve sometimes wondered about writing a contemporary story…but I think I love the historical aesthetic too much XD We’ll see!
I’ll tag some people I know! I’m not sure how many will respond (since the forum has been pretty quiet) but I’d love for you to get to know some people here &l…[Read more]

Hi Noah! @noah-cochran
There used to be a tradition of studying the masters when it comes to art. I think some of the same principles apply to studying authors who do fight scenes well.
One of the authors I think does this in a spectacular way is Louis L’Amour. [Yes, the western writer] What many do not know is that the man wrote many of his c…[Read more]

Hi Kayla! I do remember you, and I’m glad you’re back!
What’s your WIP about? Do you have any favorite books? What are some of your favorite crafts?
That’s really cool that you’re learning to knit! I never learned to knit, but it does seem fun (and practical.)I think that SE is…unfortunately rather inactive at the moment. I think that…[Read more]

Okay, everyone’s advice so far has been great!
Do y’all know of any complex, yet immersive and suspenseful battle/skirmish scenes? Any problems you’ve run into and fixed?
So… none come to mind, except maybe the battle scenes in Skyward, I know you’ve read that one. Brandon Sanderson had a lecture about battle scenes iirc… Som…[Read more]

<p style=”text-align: left;”>The problem with fight scenes is that in real time they take so short, and take so many words/so much time to describe. So you lose your readers because all pacing is thrown to the winds in an effort to give them a clear picture.</p>
I try to keep the scene as short as possible. Try to make every word count. Don’t try…[Read more] -

@noah-cochran we’d love to have you. No, no consensus on times. So far, not even a consensus on how we should proceed–via email or discord. I’ll be setting up a sort of poll soon so everyone can voice their opinions.

Hello everyone!
I am trying to get 4-6 people together to form a writing spring group. Basically, we get together at scheduled times to do writing sprints. It could be weekly, biweekly, monthly, whatever. I just think it would be good for me to do sprints, and it would be so much funner and more accountable with others!
I was hoping we could…[Read more]

Thank-you! I would really appreciate any help you can give. 🙂
Ideally, I would like to write a completed novel with 50,000 words, but I’m not sure that is going to be feasible. The goal that’s most important to me right now is getting in the habit of consistently setting aside time to write/hitting a consistent word count each…[Read more]

I feel ya, but just sayin’, that is not a big deal at all. Worry about that when you’re line editing and in between books. Of all the problems to have, free-flowing, but mediocre prose is an awesome one.
Honestly, that’s very encouraging XD I’m going to enjoy it while it lasts XD
I’m over here wavin’ goodbye to 10k words a week be…

Hello friends! As the title suggests, I’ve kinda hit a rough spot with my writing.
Not in the way you’d probably think, it’s not the dreaded writer’s block. Rather the opposite, I’m in that blissful state every writer longs for where word counts are being hit, the words are flowing, the story is taking shape, and writing is fun.
However, in the…[Read more]

Noah ( @noah-cochran ),
I’m aware that the Greek literally means “servant”. I guess what I’d like to ask is why do we automatically assume that Phoebe was just a servant of the church? From what I’ve read surrounding this verse (and other verses discussing deacons), the evidence points to Phoebe being a deacon. This mini study does more justice…[Read more]

Hi Noah (@noah-cochran),
I do compare versions regularly. Check out the online Blue Letter Bible which has a selector giving access to all versions including the Textus Receptus and KJV.
Each verse has a Bibles link that shows a linear comparison of verses in each of the prominent translations. There is also an Interlinear which is c…[Read more]

Good morning Noah (@noah-cochran),
Here is the passage containing an example of a deaconess:
I commend to you our sister Phoebe, a deaconess of the church at Cen’chre-ae, that you may receive her in the Lord as befits the saints, and help her in whatever she may require from you, for she has been a helper of many and of myself as well. [Romans…[Read more]

Brain, ( @obrian-of-the-surface-world )
First off, I am completely confident in my beliefs, and it doesn’t really bother me if you think I’m a lost soul. I was raised by two linguists who taught me good exegetical skills. My father supports egalitarianism and encourages me to stand up for myself when I am “put in my proper place” by a man. My…[Read more]
