@w-o-holmes You mean irony? Because I love irony. But never mind if you meant satire.
Anyway, I reread your poem. To be brutally honest, the first time I read it I didn’t like it because it didn’t make a bit of sense to me. It took a second reading, but now I can see more of what you’re trying to say. I like the parallel you make betwe…[Read more]

Just kiddin’. I don’t care if you do critique. Tell me what you think it means, what emotions it evoked, the symbolism behind each and every word, the relevancy of word choice, and report back with a 8,00…[Read more]

@w-o-holmes My dear fellow, you mustn’t jump to conclusions. I posted almost as soon as I wrote it out. 😏
Yes, it is partly from experience. Our family has planted several gardens over the past summers, although we haven’t done so for a few years. My mom was talking about wanting to plant another one, and my sister and I protested. Tha…[Read more]

@dakota That’s a lovely poem! I love fall. Yes, I would definitely say that counts. 🙂
@w-o-holmes I’ve got one that (I hope) evokes feelings, but it’s not about tangible objects, it’s more of a mood. And it’s also extremely unconventional, so…

Planting a Garden
Mommy and Daddy decided to plant a garden,
And they made me help.
I didn’t wanna help, and I told them so.
I said maybe we should harvest kelp
Like the people who live by the sea.
But they said no.
They never listen to me.
So we planted beans and tomatoes
and squash and cabbages
and cucumbers and peas
and eggplant.…[Read more]

Frost said nothing gold could stay.
Nothing white can either.
White clouds soon turn into gray,
Billowing thunderheads.
Shirts get stains, and so do
Gloves, handkerchiefs, even teeth.
The pearly whites of smiling youth
Become discolored, broken, few.
Snow gives way to mud.
White bandages to blood.
Paper becomes yellowed with age,
Page…[Read more]

@emma-starr Ahahaha! Bagpipes. 😆 Well done!
Another silly one for you:
I found a caterpillar in my meal.
(I’m sure they’re not good to eat.)
‘Cause when I was swallowing
my last bit of spinach,
It tickled my throat with its feet.

@w-o-holmes That’s a tough one. I’m thinking lamplighter maybe? IDK. 😅
Also, another couplet for ya, taken from a longer poem also written in couplets:
A good idea flitted by
Like a golden butterfly.

@ashira Or in other words, two rhyming lines which express a complete thought. 🙂
@w-o-holmes Thanks! I enjoyed yours too — there’s almost an antiquated quality to them that I like. By the way, just curious, does your username happen to be influenced by Oliver Wendell Holmes?

@w-o-holmes Hey, this is a great idea! Here I try:
There is nothing more nightmarish on a dark night
Than to discover that you have — a failing light.
(By the way, do you have a time limit in mind? Few days, couple weeks? Or is this just an informal challenge.)

Futures are like darkness–
Full of uncertainty,
Veiling the unknown;
And like children, we cower
At the threshold of an open door,
Afraid of what will jump out at us,
Afraid of the monsters we are certain
Are hidden from our eyes
In shadowy recesses.
Yet just as light drove away the childish fears,
So does love, love perfect and…[Read more]

@evelyn @kb-writer Wow, those are really cheesy poems. 😆 OK, this is fun:
I essayed once to write a poem about cheese.
I tried awfully hard, if you please.
But try as I might, I failed;
This effort my poetry curtailed.
So now I shall write about peas.

@banana-peacock-warrior Wow, powerful poetry! I
almostgot chills reading it. I enjoyed #2 and #5, #2 especially.I think one thing you may want to consider changing is the prologue. It’s a good thought, but the rhyming seems just a little… forced? It takes a little away from the rest of the poems, which contain powerful images. May…[Read more]

@warrioroftherealm Well to put it into perspective, argentinosaurus, which was the largest dinosaur, was about 70 ft tall and 115 ft in length. here’s how it compares to a human:

And yes I realize dragons and dinosaurs are not the same.

Travel
How happy the birds must be–
Sky-kings and sky-queens–
Traveling along a pathway of clouds
Tinted with the sun
Tinted gold in the morning
Tinted rose in the evening
Traveling silhouetted against the sky.
And I can only wander on this earth on foot
And travel the expanse of blue skies,
The realm of stars and dreams and…[Read more]
