    Hello poets!

    I’m wondering if any of you have any funny poems you’d like to share (cute ones you wrote when you were little count too!)

    Here’s one I wrote when my mom told me I had to practice my typing during my Freshman year of high school.

    The Typing Poem

    I am typing to be typing and I really don’t know why,

    So the fact that I am typing makes me really want to cry.

    I must type to get through high school (which seems really sad to me),

    So I’m typing up this poem that I do not wish to see.

    Since typing is important in the year 2013,

    The computer’s my slave-driver, and I think he’s really mean.

    But mom told me I must type now so that’s why my fingers go,

    Because typing is important (my dream college told me so).

    I can’t wait to hear what you all have to share!

    Always remember you're unique...

    @kb-writer I love it!!  This is so hilariously honest.  Can’t wait to see more!

    Here’s one of mine.  I wrote it when I was ten, just for fun.

    Burnin’ and Bakin’

    A pinch of this, a dab of that
    Into the mixing bowl,
    Then stir until you cain’t no more,
    With all your heart and soul.

    This recipe to good success
    To many lives has bring’d
    A sense of hope with smells o’ joy—
    When baking tunes is sing’d.

    The scent o’ sweet fresh bread, homemade
    A loner’s heart can cheer
    It saves him from the pit of gloom
    And from the shame of beer.

    So here’s to yous a message plain
    To all who burn and bake
    Keep up your work and think to put
    Some love in what you make.

    @kb-writer @libby Your peoms are both so fun!

    Here’s one of mine:

    Dinner

    Mom and Dad went on a date

    And left us on our own,

    To scour pantries for some food

    And make our meals alone.

    Sally made a smoothie snack,

    Using greens and berries,

    Added glops of peanut butter,

    Then some chopped-up cherries.

    Billy went for meat and cheese,

    And made a sandwich platter

    With pickles and potatoes chips,

    And “The toothpick that does matter!”

    Alice didn’t care that much,

    She just ate lunch’s food left-over,

    With a book in one hand and a fork in the other,

    As the last page grew closer and closer.

    And by the time I went in too,

    To make my dinner there,

    What more could I do?

    It just wasn’t fair.

    For ice cream was all they left,

    No spinach greens or celery sticks,

    And so poor old me, I tell you,

    Had no other choice in this awful, terrible fix!

    @evelyn Ah, so cute.  I actually read this on your blog and thought it was great. 🙂

    @libby Thanks! Do you think the amount of syllables in a line is too weird and out of pattern?

    @evelyn Not really that much.  I think there are a couple places that could be touched up if you really wanted to, but they don’t bother me a ton.

    @libby I would love to hear specific feedback of the places that could be touched up! If you don’t mind taking the time to explain. 🙂

    @evelyn Of course not 🙂

    Mom and Dad went on a date

    And left us on our own,

    To scour pantries for some food

    And make our meals alone.

    Between “scour” and “pantries”, perhaps you might want to add a “the”.  It all depends on if you say “scour” with two syllables or one.

    Sally made a smoothie snack,

    Using greens and berries,

    Added glops of peanut butter,

    Then some chopped-up cherries.

    On the last line, right before “then”, I think adding an “and” might aid the flow and cadence of your stanza.

    Alice didn’t care that much,

    She just ate lunch’s food left-over,

    With a book in one hand and a fork in the other,

    As the last page grew closer and closer.

    On the third line, the “with” seems like it hinders just the slightest bit the flow of your this stanza.  Maybe getting rid of it would make it easier to read.

    For ice cream was all they left,

    No spinach greens or celery sticks,

    And so poor old me, I tell you,

    Had no other choice in this awful, terrible fix!

    One last thing. 🙂 I think either “awful” or “terrible” would be good, but maybe not both.  It sort of jars the rhythm a little.

    All of these things are just suggestions.  You don’t have to take them 😉 I love your poem just as it is, and I’m so glad you posted it 😀
    Just a side note, I really loved your fifth stanza.  Even though it didn’t fit the rest of the rhythm, it’s perfect as it is.  And very expressive! 🙂

    These make me so happy. xD They’re all just super wonderful! As for me, I don’t really have a funny one per se, but I wrote this when I was probably ten-ish?? Anyway:

    Dandelions

    Dandelions are sweet,

    Dandelions are fun;

    They take showers in the rain,

    And dry off in the sun.

    Short and sweet. xD It was something along those lines anyway, I don’t have the exact copy but I’m pretty sure that was it. P:

    @h-jones Aw, so sweet <3
    How about adding:

    Dandelions are pretty
    But you will soon regret
    If you bring one up to sniff–
    Itchy eyes are all you’ll get!

    😉

    @libby Haha!! I love it. Poem collaboration by Libby and H. Jones. Dandelions!

    Perfection. We should write a poetry book. xD 😀

    Hello again! Sorry I’ve been gone so long.

    All these poems are so fun! Thank you all for what you’ve shared so far.

    @libby

    That’s so sweet and adorable! I can’t believe you wrote that one when you were only ten. Believe me, my Ten-year-old poems were not that good. 🙂

    @evelyn

    Haha! Your poem made me laugh! That’s great!

    @libby

    Your poem together is a blast! I love it. H. Jones, your part was just so sweet and cute. And Libby, you made me chuckle with your addition.

    Just for fun, I’m adding another old poem (please feel free to do the same, everyone!)

    Seven Numbers in a Line

    One, two, three, four, five, six, seven,

    Count them all, I think its fine,

    They’re all in a row; I think its heaven,

    My seven numbers in a line.

    I have all of them in order,

    I cleaned them up to make them shine,

    These are my numbers; I’m not a hoarder,

    All seven numbers in a line.

    I count them all and then I smile,

    Every number here is mine,

    I’ve owned them all for quite a while,

    My seven numbers in a line.

    Always remember you're unique...

    @kb-writer I love it!  It’s…how do I describe it?  Sweet?  Cute? 😀 I love it a ton!
    That’s probably the best poem I ever wrote before I turned 13. 😛 Maybe I’ll post a poem that’s earlier!  They make me laugh so much. 🙂
