Hi all!
(Would it be terribly presumptuous of me if I greeted instead with my initial option – “Greetings, ladies & gentlemen” 😉
I recently (finally) watched Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi. Being a fan and a writer, I’m currently trying to analyze this film (while also recovering from all the twists and turns it took me through as a…[Read more]

I’m planning on treating this topic as a mini way of making sure that we all can get a fair idea of everything about characters from the super easy things, to the hard things that we all struggle with. (If you don’t, then goodness. Please teach me.)
Pretty much, the first thing I wanted to talk about is going back to the very basics of what a…[Read more]

@taylorclogston, That’s an interesting article, though I wonder as a game designer how to create a system which encourages a more varied mindset than throwing dice at the problem until the RNG solves it – and how to specifically reward good planning even when the dice do not favor the players.

Thanks for answering my question! 🙂 Appreciate your input.
While I understand that cheesy stories with bad characters may not be considered a “great” in historical terms, I think they still have a rather heavy impact on the general viewers’ perceptions and values (who, unfortunately, may not exercise a lot of analysis). An…[Read more]

Oh my gosh you wanted to be a manga artist too?! That’s awesome! It’s still my dream to someday create my own manga, or work as an artist for an animation company like Studio Bones or Kyoto Animation that create manga adaptations…. I really love the art form and all the freedom you have with 2D animation and just manga-style art…[Read more]

@taylorclogston All right, I’ll read it through and give you some feedback as soon as I can! Is there anything in particular you’re looking for? For example, anything no one has commented on yet? (I know you weren’t looking for mechanical things, but I wondered if you had any specific questions.)
I haven’t had the watch for long, so I can’t give…[Read more]

Ouch. Just plain ouch.
The contest word count limit was 2,000 words, so you’re right, I should’ve added more. I usually write big.
Smack-dab right on the theme, by the way.
I know how paragraph formatting works, but thank you for pointing that out. This was a first-draft get-this-done-now kinda thing. I had time to make it…[Read more]

@taylorclogston Are you still looking for critique on your novella? It sounded like you hadn’t had much feedback, so I’d be happy to read it and give you my thoughts. I don’t have much experience with alpha reading, but I’m willing to give it my best shot if you’re willing to be my critiquing guinea pig. 😛 (Although it may take a week or two…[Read more]

I’ve started to read The Brothers Karamazov- barely scratched the surface, but they say it’s better than Crime and Punishment (and that was really good). Also going through K.M. Weiland’s Character Arcs book, which is really helpful.
I’m trying to figure out the main focusing question behind the series, and i’m trying to juggle…[Read more]

I can see and agree with a lot of what you say about D&D. I guess I’ve just never experienced an RPG system with mechanics focused on resolving the story directly, instead of through physical or social challenges.I too prefer more consistent dice rolls. That’s partly why I’m writing Six Feet Deep as a d6 dependent system and…[Read more]

@taylorclogston, Sorry I didn’t reply for so long! I didn’t realize you had sent a message – it didn’t show up some how.
My preference for linear core is that it’s simple and it keeps the number of dice being rolled from becoming overwhelming, as is the case with Shadowrun. My experience with dice pools when playing that was that consistent…[Read more] -

@taylorclogston I can try! I’m not great at displaying strong emotions yet, but I suppose that’s all the more reason to try it! 😀
Do you think today’s entertainment (books & films, esp.) have been trying to push a more modern feminist agenda by creating more cardboard perfect female leads/protagonists? (Hmm… I’m thinking of Rey.)…[Read more]
