@gabriellepollack I’ve always liked Bilbo’s riddle competition with Gollum.
I would say more, but I am visiting my grandparents and only have internet for a few minutes. Turns out summer is a bad time for me to do a book club…. Sorry.

@gabriellepollack I think I understand what you were trying to say regarding “it’s our job to manipulate the readers’ emotions carefully” but I have to say I hate that terminology. 😉 As a reader, I HATE it when I can tell that an author is trying to make me feel a certain way–I’ll put a book down before I’ll submit to the chosen emotion!
I much…[Read more]

I’m actually looking for a new laptop myself.
The laptop I got now is about three years old, has been dropped 7-8 time and needs the cooling fan fixed. I think it’s time for a new one. Both for me and for you.
Things you should be looking for in a laptop:
RAM:
The RAM is part of what makes a laptop load something. If you’re looking for a…[Read more]

@gabriellepollack I’m not too sure how to classify it—it’s young adult with elements of action-adventure. I like to write stories set in the 1990s so it might have a semi-historical element too. Not too sure though 🙂 What about you?

I would TOTALY recommend a Mac book air. I got mine in 2014 and it still runs like new! I bought mine brand new[ ” want a Macintosh laptop, packaging so posh. Fits like a glove in that tiny little white box” (Toby Mac’s I want a mac daddy)] (with help from my parents) My brothers also have airs and got theirs recently but refurbished. I b…[Read more]

@gabriellepollack Pitch Wars is an event where authors submit to have the chance to be mentored by an already-published author. They’ll help you revise your manuscript, and then pitch it to agents and publishers. It looks really cool! Here’s the link:Â http://pitchwars.org/

Sam Kowal replied to the topic Topic #8: People Watching in the forum Annual Theme Discussion 8 years ago
I found people watching pretty interesting, although I wouldn’t recommend just sitting and really watching people unless you want them to think you’re… either a stalker, or really enamored with their sneakers. Mixing observation in with conversation is easier.
I noticed people’s mannerisms when they’re nervous; they tend to…[Read more]

@jane-maree, @everyone, I think we need to examine this deeper. While Paolini, was homeschooled he graduated at 15 and began working on his first novel (Eragon). It was heavily promoted through his parents publishing company. That may explain how he got away with so much. Also, he was 15 when he wrote it. According to Wikipedia, he was influenced…[Read more]

I will forever fangirl over the Mission league. (Although it took me a while to actually start liking Spencer, and I still want to hit him over the head several times in each book. xD)
