Arindown replied to the topic God in a fantasy universe in the forum Fantasy Writers 5 years, 5 months ago
@toklaham-veruzia I’ve often wondered about this subject too…my favorite writing of a personable God in a fantasy world is the Wingfeather Saga by Andrew Peterson. Although his characters portray different parts of the Redemptive story throughout the series (forgiveness, protection, self-sacrifice, etc.), Peterson also has a figure called the…[Read more]

Hi! Your story sounds really amazing. Do you mind sharing what the basic plot is? Your world-building sounds really cool.
I’m currently around 50k words into my first fantasy novel. It’s really hard to say what a story is about (Even though I’m asking you to do it😆), but I’ll give it a try (this is kinda what I have on…[Read more]

I’m somewhere in between a plotter and panster…but definitely leaning toward panster in most of my projects. I love the idea of just being able to dive in, with no rules, and see where things go.
I actually wrote a bit of an outline for my WIP, but I haven’t really followed it at all. I have a vague idea of where I’m going. For one of my…[Read more]

@zee You know, in a way, I do the same thing to help myself stay on track. My current story is confusing at the moment, but I’ll try…
One of the biggest questions is, What’s the difference, and when is the time for, justice or mercy?
After you die, what legacy are you going to leave? In my story, this is illustrated by a certain room, with t…[Read more]

Arindown replied to the topic Finding your ember in the forum General Writing Discussions 5 years, 6 months ago
This is a great question. For me, as a new writer, I like to let things sit for a bit in my head when I get stuck. I find that pictures, music, and movies are a great way to get my “ember” ball rolling again. Don’t follow other people’s work exactly, but take what you like about it, and make it yours. For example, lets say you love…[Read more]

I don’t know if this is helpful, but Andrew Peterson has a way of describing both music and words in a way that is really moving. I’m not sure where you can find his stuff…it’s all throughout his songs and books.
That’s just what came to mind when I saw your post.

Arindown (Gracie) commented on the post, How Should Christian Authors Portray Bittersweet Endings? 5 years, 6 months ago
Good post, Gabby!
I think my favorite bittersweet endings are the Wingfeather Saga, Lord of the Rings, and Mrs. Frisbee and the Rats of NIHM.
Things don’t end well for the characters, but still, there’s an undeniable sense of hope. I think the hope is stronger for the pain it’s mixed with.
I don’t think I’ve ever thought directly about…[Read more]

Sorry…I’ve been on vacation.
The cover is wonderful.😍 I love the word font, and the dragon silhouette. My only suggestion would be to make the name Arindown a little smaller, but you don’t need to change it.
Thanks so much.
btw, your new profile picture is really cute.

@amaustin Oh, I love your name!😍 Do you pronounce it like Arwen Evenstar from Lord of the Rings?
Baby books can be great…but sometimes they have weird meanings for great names. Do you ever make up meanings for names you invented? I want to sometime.
I usually say my name Air-n-down, but I’m not picky (actually, I say it Are-in-down half the…[Read more]

Arindown replied to the topic Can You Describe Your Main Character… in the forum General Writing Discussions 5 years, 7 months ago
This is such a good idea (hope that doesn’t count toward my 3 words😂).
I think my MC (at this point) would be: Rough, Wounded, and Searching.
It’s hard to find words for what I admire in him, although I admire a lot.😄 I guess a lot of it could fall under the “rough.”

Hey, I like your plot. Sounds like something I would like reading.😊 I would say spending time to develop the plot and characters would be a great idea, whether or not it’s a total romance. The deeper the characters, the better the relationships will be.
I hope this isn’t too personal, but is your name actually Ari? I LOVE that name.😍…[Read more]

I think it is possible to insinuate too much. When I’m afraid of crossing a “line” and being inappropriate or insinuating, I question whether I would let my parents (they’re always helpful when you’ve gone too far) or one of my younger sisters read it. If not, maybe I need to adjust something.
I love the idea of having the main romance…[Read more]

I haven’t read the Scarlet Pimpernel, although I should because I’d love to read someone “sticking it to” the French Revolution. I remember the Scarlet Pimpernel was mentioned in the Larry Norman song “Without Love (You Ain’t Nothin’)”. Yeah, I’m that old. My future spouse and I actually went to a Larry Norman concert back in the day.

I think the Bible leaves a lot of room for romance…within certain boundaries. I wouldn’t base my romances off many biblical characters for obvious reasons (David, Abraham, Esther, etc.), but I think there are some examples, in the Bible, of what Biblical romance is. Ruth and Boaz are the best example, I believe, but there’s…[Read more]

New Question: Would you rather be feared or respected?
Laurel: “Respected. Fear is a trap.”
Ky: “She’s right. Having your enemies respect you would be the same, or better, than having them fear you.”
Erik: *folds arms, and leans against wall* “I’ve always wanted to be feared.” *grins at Ky* “Especially by him.”
Ky: “Good chance of that,…[Read more]

I don’t have any experience, or a lot of advice on author bio’s, but I think something that I find appeals to me is someone who is straight-forward, funny, and informative.
You’re talking about a real, true human being (yourself), so make it sound like that. Be relatable to other people…so that readers not only feel that they can…[Read more]
