Last August, a young man in my church killed himself. He came from a large family, and our community loved him. I decided to chronicle the impact of his death, because a Christian suicide is a […]
-
I’m so encouraged! I’ve recently been thinking about this topic, and wondering about the necessity of my portrayal of suicide. Even though I’ve seen friends who I thought were happy believers end their own lives and have been depressed myself, I wasn’t sure how writing about suicide would help other readers who may not fully understand. This article has really helped me see the importance of not omitting it, but rather dealing with the root issues springing from it and offering hope to not only the characters, but future readers as well.
Thank you!!!
-
Hey, I’m glad it helped, and I’m so sorry you’ve been through this too. If you’ve ever got further questions feel free to look me up and I’ll be glad to help.
-
Thank you for the offer! I’ll be sure to look out for more of your writing from this point on!
-
-
Thank you for this hard yet necessary article, Ms. Sophia. These are difficult and essential things we must deal with, both in writing and in life itself, and I’m grateful that you took the time to give them to us so thoughtfully.
-
Thank you. I have had to think about these things myself quite a lot lately, and if it helps anyone else, and so on, you know.
-
-
Wow, I am so sorry your friend died that way! How are you handling it?
Thank you so much for this article!-
Thank you, and if you want to learn more, hop over to my blog (linked in bio) and look in the “So That Others May Live” category. There should be another post on the subject coming soon, once I get the mental space for it.
-
-
Thank you for your honesty, Malissa. But I think you may have misunderstood the intent of the article. Sophia mentions that βa suicide victim is guilty and forfeits the opportunity to repent.β She means that the person canβt seek forgiveness prior to death, not that theyβre incapable of receiving forgiveness. As you pointed out, that part is up to God.

Dear Katherine, thank you so much for your comment. <3 Knowing that God used this to encourage you makes me so happy and grateful for his grace! Our God is truly amazing, isn't he!

Wow, this really hits home for me. I’ve never had a super serious injury but having scoliosis surgery left me unable to do a lot of the things I wanted to as a young teenager and the struggles you talked about were definitely there. The hardest thing was probably not being able to pick up my little sister due to weight limits and having to rely on everyone else.
But in the end, I am really glad I went through it for so many reasons. The most important being I got saved the next spring!! Really with all that time to think it changed a lot of my perspective, and somehow it really helped with the bad self-image I used to have. God definitely used it for purposes of his own and looking back I know I wouldn’t have had it any other way.
Thanks so much for sharing your heart and beautiful journey. May God continue to grow us all in life’s beautiful struggles and pain for his glory!!-
Indeed! For the glory of God!
Thank you so much for sharing your story with me. Knowing that I am not the only one who has gone through this sort of pain as a teen is encouraging, and hearing how God used your health issues to bring you to himself is amazing! Praise him!
I know that as painful as it was, I wouldn’t have changed anything for the world, either. Thank you so much! <3
-
-
Wow. First off, thank you for being honest. And then, I love how much hope this has and how much power there is when you surrender your story to Christ. Keep writing, girl. You’ll move mountains. π

Katherine, simply wonderful – this is like a prayer. In many ways, I can see how I’ve prayed it (or parts of it) so many times this past year. Thank you for sharing this with us. π

Libby, I’m so glad you have seen yourself and your thoughts in this. Yes, it is very much my own prayer as well. It’s such a blessing to know God’s in control and guides us, even when we don’t feel worth it. π

Thank you very much, Emily. π
And (may I add), your name is my favorite name in the world. So beautiful! <3

Isabelle, I’m so honored that you were touched by this. Honestly, this poem came from my own experience during the past year. I was inspired by the intense struggle it took for me to humble myself before God and her, but most of all by the gracious forgiveness she offered to me. It just…was definitely not of this world.
So thank you – if my poetry touched you, your comment touched me even more. <3 -
Libby, thank you so much for sharing. I love it. Keep it up!

Thank you, Dakota. π That means a ton to me.
