Daeus Lamb started the topic The Assassin in the forum Annual Theme Discussion 8 years, 1 month ago
Hey Saxon Scribes,
I barely made this post in time before Monday ended. *blushes*
Along the lines of our annual discussion of character development, I thought it would be worthwhile to camp out on the assassin stereotype for a week and take a deep look at him.
This character type has a definite aura built around them. There are a few different…[Read more]

Monday is here.
Last week, I almost completed my goals. I wrote a little over 5,000 words and I drafted my email but haven’t sent it yet.
My goals this week are to writ…[Read more]

Great work, @mcnoggin — especially with your colors and metaphors.
I’ll get to making some edits to this tomorrow (hopefully others can add their improvements today), but I just wanted to go ahead and share a couple of my initial thoughts.
- I generally prefer opening a scene with the POV character as opposed to anything else that’s going on…

AnneTheStorynerdGirl replied to the topic What Genre do YOU Write? in the forum General Writing Discussions 8 years, 1 month ago
That sounds like a really cool genre to write in and definitely sadly empty of Christian books. My brother wrote a MilitaryFiction/Thriller novel because (of his message of course but also..) it is a genre people like to read but one where the world mostly produces really graphic, un-edifying things. So I totally get what you mean.…[Read more]

@girlsetfree I used to write A TON of historical fiction, so I’m kinda tired of it right now 🙂 I still like to read it though and I plan on picking up that genre again in the future. I’m writing a sci-fi right now. I’m just in love with the creative possibilities of that genre and fantasy as well.
Also, I am terrible at writing mysteries. 😉

I agree with @r-m-archer on this one. Having the character as a child doesn’t seem to fit with what I’d envisioned based on what the other Saxon Scribes have been saying. I especially…[Read more]

@daeus-lamb I’m thinking a serious observer would be best, too. Sarcasm doesn’t seem like it would fit with the rest of the scene.

Daeus Lamb started the topic What's been your biggest breakthrough with character development? in the forum Annual Theme Discussion 8 years, 1 month ago
Gather round the campfire, New Wessex. Today, we start our discussion of the yearly theme.
To kick us off, I decided to start with something juicy. Let’s each share what our biggest breakthrough has been with character development. It doesn’t matter if you don’t think you’re very good at character development, what’s one thing you’ve learned…[Read more]

Here we go! The accountability thread goes live. As a review, for this thread, every week you post your writing/business goals and if you met last week’s goals.
I’ll start off. My writing goal this week is to write 7,000 words. As far as the business of writing, my only goal this week is to send out an email to my…[Read more]

@girlsetfree, TCK stands for third culture kid. It means that a) you were raised outside of your passport country or b) your parents are from two different countries and you live in a third one, hope that helps

@girlsetfree That should be fine. Technically, the guildmasters have decided that if someone is completely inactive for a long period of time they will be temporarily removed to make room for others, but if you plan to be coming back, I’ll keep a space for you.

@kate You forgot @girlsetfree 😉
Hmmm. I think I would say:
“I’ve been through a lot, but by God’s grace I’ve learned to hope in the midst of it. I believe there’s a purpose to everything, and I hope as my friend you’ll see and share in the joy with me!”
*cringes* It sounds so cheesy! In actuality I would probably just say something lik…[Read more]

Hi friends,
One thing we’re going to be doing periodically here in New Wessex is opening up this worldbuilding thread. It’ll only be here a couple days a month so we don’t get too distracted, but when it is open it should be a lot of fun. This is a thread for developing the world of New Wessex (not for worldbuilding in general.)
So let’s…[Read more]

@girlsetfree Hi there! I personally talk to dragons all the time. Of course, most of them are my characters…
I’m a Standard Western, though sometimes I cosplay as a Nightfury. I usually have blue scales–when April is over, I’ll change my profile picture to a good picture of me.

@daeus-lamb Me!! Though I don’t do it regularly. Usually it comes in the form of some poetry assignment, though occasionally I’ve been know to have my own ideas. 😄
I’ll write anything, but my specialty is humorous poems, especially ones that rhyme in couplets.

aster replied to the topic How to Maximize One's Writing Time in the forum General Writing Discussions 8 years, 1 month ago
@girlsetfree I can relate! It can be really hard to find time to write.
I’m familiar with the Pomodoro Technique. During nanowrimo, I used it all the time, and it was how I stayed sane. But when I went back to my normal schedule, it didn’t work. I write roughly 3000 words a week during the school year on stories alone. (I also have a blog…[Read more]
