@ncstokes thanks for the advice! Characters can be very useful for plotting… I will have to do some more character development I think…

@parker yeah. Coming up with those plot twists is a whole other beast though 😛
@jillifish Thank you for all the tips! I am fresh back after a break, and still trying to think of ideas unfortunately. I haven’t heard of those books, but I will definitely look at them!

@pookiemonster lol, drawing was not illegal, just drawing people’s faces 😉
@rolena-hatfield Thanks! Yes, I typically write in past tense. This is one of the very few things that I’ve written in person, so the strangeness might be it.

@scribbles hmm, okay. I feel it too; the present tense is weird. I don’t know why…

@taylorclogston Yes, I’ve been trying to read more. I might try branching out into other genres though…
@parker Right now I’m leaning towards dystopian or high fantasy… And thanks!

Hello all,
I’m back 🙂
I wrote this a couple weeks ago and would love to get it critiqued! Basically the things I want to know are: Does the present tense fit, or is it too clunky? and Could it be made into a novel or is it better as a short story?
But all other suggestions/comments are gratefully welcomed. 🙂
I glance from side to side…[Read more]

It’s terribly tragic, and I’m not sure what to do. I finished writing one novel, so I started to work on coming up with a new idea only to find that I have nothing. I’ve been able to write a few short stories, come up with settings and characters, but I can’t come up with a plot to put any of it into.
How do you come up with plots that span a…[Read more]

I’m kind of curious to the main character’s name. Is it revealed soon after? (That could just be me, I like to know the narrator’s name pretty soon off. :))
“Hey!” I shove him away. “My sister is in that class, dummy.”
He gulps. “Ah. Right.”
I was thinking they were joking around, but then the response is much more scared than I…[Read more]

Ooh, I like NF @Ashlyvye My favorite song by him is probably Mansion.
I tend to get sidetracked when listening to music with words while writing, so I listen to a lot of epic music. Anything by Audiomachine is good, and I also listen to a lot of movie soundtracks. (Lord of the Rings is amazing.)

aster replied to the topic How to Maximize One's Writing Time in the forum General Writing Discussions 7 years, 11 months ago
@girlsetfree I can relate! It can be really hard to find time to write.
I’m familiar with the Pomodoro Technique. During nanowrimo, I used it all the time, and it was how I stayed sane. But when I went back to my normal schedule, it didn’t work. I write roughly 3000 words a week during the school year on stories alone. (I also have a blog…[Read more]

aster replied to the topic What Genre do YOU Write? in the forum General Writing Discussions 7 years, 11 months ago
I primarily write fantasy. For NaNo a while back, I wrote a dystopian story and I loved doing it, but I realized that it wasn’t my strongest area of writing. So I write fantasy, both portal and high fantasy and throw in some dystopian elements for fun.

@supermonkey42 ha, maybe. As for authors I like C. S. Lewis, John Flanagan, Nadine Brandes, and Arthur Conan Doyle.
@gabriellepollack Thanks!
@mariposa Hello to you and Aberdeen! My favorite medium is watercolor. I like painting galaxies, animals, and fan art of various shows and books.
