Hmmm. I think I would say:

“I’ve been through a lot, but by God’s grace I’ve learned to hope in the midst of it. I believe there’s a purpose to everything, and I hope as my friend you’ll see and share in the joy with me!”

*cringes* It sounds so cheesy! In actuality I would probably just say something like, “Do you like Lord of the Rings? *puppy eyes*” 😝
