Ugh, I keep telling myself that I will be quicker in responding but… here I am XD *long sigh* sorry ’bout that!

Well, that makes sense. I guess I’m just different than most people πŸ˜› πŸ˜‰

Ok, wow, that sounds like so much fun XD Even though you say y’all were terrible at it, did you at least have fun? That’s what matters most, right? I mean, other than winning XD Hehe, so I live in a family of nerds, so there are many video games that my dad, brothers, and I play together (my mom doesn’t really like video games, but sometimes she’ll play a game or two). Some that we play are Minecraft, Wildermyth, Stonehearth, Battle for Westnoth — and they just keep getting nerdier from there LOL. Do y’all play any other video games? πŸ˜€

It’s sad, but it’s alright. I guess prioritizing school and work over my fun stuff is… important XD I’ve been able to write a bit on weekends, and I have the prologue and first two chapters of my book completed but not finally edited! *progress* LOL.

No worries! Curiosity is accepted here πŸ˜‰ I work at Chick-fil-A! I have said “my pleasure” about a million times in the past month XD One of my friends who works with me says that it’s like brainwashing, and I’m starting to think that he’s right, LOL. Anytime I hear someone say “you’re welcome” instead of “my pleasure,” something inside me cringes, and I think “that’s not right” XD

Ah, siblings. Aren’t they great? XD Enjoy that height difference you have with your sister while it lasts, LOL. And if you stay taller than her forever, then kudos to you! πŸ˜‰

Oh man, my co-op has been so much fun! I mean, there areΒ so many restrictions due to COVID and whatnot, but I have very much enjoyed seeing my friends in person again! I actually thought of you and your burning toaster experience on our first day back because we, uh, had an unintentional fire during our first periods XD Apparently one of the lights in the cafeteria caught on fire during the middle school science class LOL. But it was smoking enough for us to smell it and call the fire department. We all got out of the building, and then when the fire department started to show up, there were, like, fifteen people pulling out their phones and documenting the excitement LOL. My English teacher yelled “THIS IS GOING IN THE YEARBOOK!” XD Don’t worry, the building didn’t burn down, and no one died, so I call that a good day XD

Aaaaahhhhh, I’m really bad at replying quickly XD So you are totally fine, friend! Oof, exams. They’re so… “fun” XD

My job is going really well so far! I work at Chick-fil-A now, so if I start saying “my pleasure” at the end of everything, that’s why πŸ˜› I’m really enjoying working there, and my coworkers are so fun! πŸ™‚

Okay, I’m gonna be honest: Dutch literature sounds horrifying XD I applaud you for surviving that, LOL *standing ovation* πŸ˜‰

We have read so many books for my English class that I have lost count XD My favorites have beenΒ The Book Thief, Pride and Prejudice, To Kill a Mockingbird,Β Frankenstein,Β andΒ Macbeth. There are, like, 100 other books I have read, but there is not enough room on SE to name them all XD I have been taking this class since 6th grade, so I have read many a classic book LOL. I think we’re going to readΒ Great Expectations this semester, and I’m curious about it, so hopefully it will be as good as I hope πŸ˜‰

Sure, those totally count as classics πŸ˜‰ I’ve only read the firstΒ Anne of Green Gables book out of your list, so clearly I have not been fully educated LOL.

I’m currently going throughΒ Witness Protection by Carol Kinsey, and I’m actually in a small book-&-writing club with some friends of mine, one of their friends, and Carol Kinsey herself! We’re all writing stories of our own and hope to be published, so Carol offered to help us by teaching us methods for writing and development and whatnot while going through her book and a study guide thing she wrote for that purpose! Sooooo I’m excited about that XD I don’t think I’ve heard of either of those books. What are they about? πŸ™‚

          Thanks again! πŸ˜€

Hmmm, let me see… I think Kelsi would do that. I can see that being an important factor among the Healers (since procedures and stuff would probably need to be systematic LOL).

Who’s most likely to eat something off the ground? I know, it’s gross, but hey, I’m interested to see how it goes XD

I can definitely see Kevin doing that, especially in front of Kelsi LOL. She is a neat-freak (again, Healer and whatnot), and I can totally picture him eating something that fell on the ground just to aggravate her. He also loves doing goofy things like that, as he likes to be the center of attention XD

@erynne – Aww, thanks! πŸ˜€ (Yes it is Penny πŸ˜‰ ). I did not draw that picture (the artist’s “username” or whatever it’s called is Cliven Zu, or something like that), but I did use an app to re-color the image to look more like Penny πŸ™‚

Ooooo I like that question! There isn’t a whole lot of technology in my world either (any phones I decide to include or going to be more like old home, cord phones that use to be mounted on people’s walls and whatnot). Basically, super old school XD But I can see my character Taylor being upset over that LOL. Or Dawn… yeah, definitely her XD

Who’s most likely to be late to their own wedding?Β I can’t remember if someone has done this one or one similar to this or not, but oh well πŸ˜›

Penny. 100% Penny XD I can totally see her oversleeping or something like that and just scrambling to get to her wedding before the day is over LOL.

Definitely Alex, given that he eventually does at the end of my story LOL.

And, okay, I really want to answer the “lock-picking” question XD I can totally see Kevin doing that. Not because he generallyΒ needs to pick locks, but because that’s just one quirky and potentially sketchy, uh, ability that I can see him knowing πŸ˜›

Okay, let’s see… this is really dumb, butΒ who’s most likely to talk inΒ their sleep? I’m running outta ideas, y’all XD

I can see a few of my characters talking in their sleep. Penny definitely does it (if not talking, crying out or screaming herself awake). I can also see Alex and Kevin doing it.

Hi again y’all! Ok, my apologies for being so inactive for soooo long! I started a new job that has been taking up a lot of time, and schoolwork has taken up the rest of the time XD I promise I have not forgotten about you two!

                @rose-colored-fancy

Let me know how you like it when you finish it! Or how you dislike it, I guess XD

Yeah, it’s depressing how that happens. I don’t understand why they think it’s a good idea to add or retract things from books, thinking that would make the already fantastic book even better. I swear that the directors and produces of those movies had never read any of the books they make movie adaptations of… *sigh* Anyways XD I do not mind the rants at all, LOL.

I totally recommend it! I mean, it’s kinda dark, but I think it’s really good! I read it for my English class two or three years ago and really enjoyed it.

LOL, having characters do dumb things is great, isn’t it? XD

                @lonathecat

Dude, I totally understand XD No worries about responding a little late! Life is crazy LOL. All semesters are rough for me; I’m old XD

I can understand that! I think I would rather sing because I would be given something very specific to do. If I were to freestyle on my own I would crash and burn XD I like having very specific, clear instructions and whatnot to do. I guess I’m just that type of person.

Yasssss he is my very literary puppy πŸ™‚

I don’t know what it is about dads, but my dad pretty much wins everything we play. Except for Mario Kart, which I have started beating him at XD He is not happy about that LOL.

I totally get that with smaller time frames but the same amount of work LOL. This new job that I got is taking up more time than I realized, and it’s new to me, trying to cram all my schoolwork in before and after work XD I hardly have a lot of time for writing now, and it’s so sad πŸ™ XD

Oh, and same with my brothers! My first brother, who is also two years younger, passed me in height, like, three or four years ago XD But my other brother, who is FIVE years younger than me, is my height now, and I don’t like it — mostly because he likes to rub it in LOL.

My year has been cool so far! Mostly through the new job XD But my co-op is finally going to let us go back in person starting this week! I’m very excited about that πŸ˜›

                  Hi there!

                  My pleasure! πŸ™‚

Oh well good LOL. No worries, I’m just glad someone was curious about a character of mine πŸ˜‰ Hmm, I don’t think I have given her a name because the scene where she makes her appearance is in Leebus’ POV, and she never told him her name (for obvious reasons XD). But she has multiple powers: teleportation, creating images with pink light out of thin air, and telepathy. All three are displayed in the prologue.Β Yes, my immortal King must have some time to prove his immortality XD They truly are! Aww, thanks! I hope you can meet them in the future too LOL πŸ˜‰

Yeah, like, I don’t want their POVs to start looking the same. Like, they have the same thought processes, personality, and even the same way of describing things. I really don’t want that XD Alex and Penny, while they are siblings and do have their similarities, are supposed to be very different XD

Yay, I’m glad I’m not the only one! That makes total sense to me πŸ™‚ Yes, that helps the character building process to be more fun XD

Those poor Cyborgs πŸ™ Well, it’s understandable why their lives would be kinda rough. Haha, another violent author XD πŸ˜‰ Welcome to the club LOL. Yeah, it can be heartbreaking, especially if you grow really attached to the character. I once made a decision to kill off a character I loved and felt so bad about it for a few days XD Oh that’s fun! It’s such a great feeling when you write out a scene and you don’t have to make any drastic changes to it. This makes me exited to read your story(s) in the future! πŸ˜€

Oh, it makes me feel better that he’s not entirely alone! In my opinion, everybody needs people XD I have a character that’s kind of like your MC, who pushes a lot of people away (I torture this poor lad, let’s just say that LOL), so I can understand that part of his character.

I can totally see Penny or Taylor doing that, both because they would be rushing against the clock and not notice before they stepped out the door. They would have to have someone tell them that their socks didn’t match or their shirt was inside out LOL.

I also say Kevin would do it, but he wouldn’t care enough to fix it XD He would just walk around with a white and neon green sock and it would not bother him πŸ˜›

Who is most likely to get upset for the most stupid reasons?

Uhhh either Penny (*just realizes that Penny is the answer for most of these questions XD*) or Faith. Pen because she is almost always irrational, and Fatih because she is a little too sensitive and hates it when people are displeased with her or the situation.

You’re welcome once again! Yeah, I may or may not be about to search “post-Cyborg war books” on Google XD I will let you know if I find anything in my research πŸ˜›

Oh good I’m glad it still wasn’t confusing LOL. No worries in wondering about the messenger. She really only has one mission in my entire series XD Yeah, it is quite a timespan, but it is essential to Mordred’s immortality and his evil reign of terror πŸ˜› I mostly thought it would be weird having an immortal villain if their immortality only lasted a couple of years LOL. Thanks! I’m glad you like my characters! They’re so fun to write (and there are like so many others aside from Alex and Penny XD) Aww, thanks! I think it will be fun writing from both Alex and Penny’s perspectives in the second book, but I am afraid they’re going to start blending into the same person… *shudders* It will take some work LOL.

Thanks again! Yes, all the endless possibilities πŸ™‚ It’s fun creating a character, deciding what kind of power he/she is going to have, and then forming their personality to match it. Well, I mean, it’s fun for me anyways πŸ˜‰ Penny’s is the most fun because 1) she’s the MC in the first book so she has a lot of time to develop, and 2) her power is fire, so I can make her super feisty and sassy XD

Oh wow, yeah no wonder he is struggling XD jk jk πŸ˜‰ I honestly find it so cool that there are multiple circumstances that are inhibiting his chances at a “normal” life. It sounds so lonely and rough being a Cyborg in a post-war world, in my opinion. But the struggle sounds so (and this is going to sound terrible LOL) fun to write! How does it feel writing out all the dangerous scenes for your character(s)?

Oh, I have another question! I know you said that the human families essentially dumped their Cyborg family members out of their homes, but does your MC have any Cyborg friends, allies from the war, or even other humans that he can rely on? Or is he completely alone in a world that is out to see him gone? *suspenseful music* LOL.

                        You’re welcome! πŸ˜€

Oh wow that’s so cool! That seems like an interesting setting and I love it! I don’t know how many post-Cyborg-war books I’ve read before πŸ˜‰ You’re welcome again!

Aww, thanks! I’m glad my explaining isn’t too confusing LOL. Well, actually, I guess I made one thing confusing: the woman in the prologue is just a messenger in the book. That’s really the only time she’s mentioned. Her main purpose in the prologue is to show that not all of the Alondans died in the battle. The book’s primary setting and time is, like, hundreds of years in the future XD My protagonists are my very-fun-to-write brother-sister-duo, Alexander and Penelope (I mostly refer to them as Alex and Penny, though). They are the descendants of the late King Darren Lane of Alonda, and the ones prophesied to destroy the evil immortal King. I mostly write in Penny’s POV in this first book (if I were to write as another character it would be Alex), but in the next book it will be in both Alex and Penny’s POVs.

So the Elementals’ powers are… pretty much anything and everything XD Lots of my characters only have one power (e.g. Penny has power over fire, and Alex has power over lightning/electricity), but then I have other characters who get a nice little package-deal of different powers (e.g. I have a character that shows up in later books who can turn invisible, and he also has telekineses). I also have Elementals whose only powers are healing, and they can’t have any attack-based powers. They are essentially defenseless in a battle unless they know how to wield a sword.

I have a question for you about your story! πŸ˜€ How/why is your protagonist struggling to live? Did he suffer an injury during the war that is inhibiting him now? Are there certain people out to get him even though the war is over? Or is it just generally harder for a Cyborg to provide for himself/herself alone?

Hi Ribbonash! Welcome to Story Embers! πŸ˜€

Ooo your WIP sounds so cool! May I ask what the setting of your story is where cyborgs are fighting in wars? It sounds intriguing πŸ™‚

My current major WIP, Elemental,Β goes a little something like this (this is essentially the prologue of my first book):

“In the world of Belrac, the kingdom of Alonda is being destroyed by the King of Maivin — Tyrun Mordred, a man so hungry for power that he forced his mage to make him immortal, along with an enormous army of beasts to destroy the Alondans that are in his way. His reasoning for destroying the kingdom? The people of Alonda possess powers never before seen in all of Belrac (they are known best as Elementals), and they threaten Mordred’s corrupted view of his own power.

“In the years that pass the destruction of Alonda, Mordred thinks he has destroyed all the Elementals. But he is wrong. Shortly after the attack, an Elemental woman approaches Mordred’s advisor, Leebus, and tells him of a prophecy among the Alondans.Β A storm of fire will rain down on the bringer of darkness.

Uhhhh I don’t know how well of a job I did at explaining that LOL. I’d love to answer any questions about it if you would like!

I hope to hear more about your book! πŸ˜€

                            Hello friend! πŸ™‚

Equal torture treatments for characters XD Sometimes I feel like authors like us are some of the most despicable people you could ever know (in some aspects, of course LOL). I’m sure your PTSD writing will turn out wonderfully! πŸ˜‰

Yeah, the first book is kind of slow going. After reading the whole saga, I think the books are kind of like theΒ Harry Potter series in one aspect: you can tell that the first book or two was/were intended for a younger audience, and then as the story progresses, it becomes more… I want to say mature, but not in the bad meaning XD Like, it’s notΒ all like a kids book… if that makes any sense LOL. But I applaud you for sticking with it! Leeli and Janner are great! I think my favorite character would have to be a three way tie between Janner, Oskar, and Podo (I think that’s how you spell all their names, but it’s been years since I’ve read the books so pardon any spelling errors LOL).

I shall take your word for it! πŸ™‚

Ooo you read Dutch books? I could never do that XD That’s impressive πŸ˜› But that villain sounds so intriguing! (And only speaking in alliteration and verse is awesome LOL). And yeah, Netflix is never trustworthy XD Why is it that most movies and TV shows almost always ruin the books they are based off of? It’s so sad.

OH I THOUGHT OF A GRAY CHARACTER I HAVE SEEN BEFORE!!!!! XD Sorry for the sudden outburst, but it was killing me that I thought I remembered reading a book with at least one gray characters in them but it never came to me. But now it did LOL. Have you ever readΒ The Count of Monte Cristo? Again, it’s been ages since I’ve read it, but I’m pretty sure that book has atΒ least one gray character. From what I can remember about the premise of that book, I think, like, half the characters could be considered gray XD

Yes, I believe good (or even bad) motivation is a valid way of making a character evil πŸ˜› πŸ˜‰ Or at least a sense of what they believe is right and wrong.

Okay, by “dumb” do you mean dumb like “oh, that was funny,” or dumb like “what were you thinking, you idiot?” LOL because I’m sure my characters have a fair share of both. In my books, I think Penny does a lot of the latter kind of dumb things; she was constantly rebelling against her mother, she never thought rationally, and almost died quite a few times as a result of her actions. I’m pretty sure all of my characters have done at least one humorous dumb thing. Let me think… I know I made Kevin do something dumb like that, but it isn’t coming to mind right now XD Oh well, if I think of it I’ll tell you πŸ˜‰

                            How about your characters? πŸ™‚

I think Penny would trip and fall, being my most clumsy character, and she would totally spill whatever she was carrying all over people around her. She is not very graceful XD

I would say Danny is probably my most independent character. I gave him a rough childhood, and he sort of had to learn to be independent from a young age.

Who is most likely to be considered the most insecure of your characters? (I know this is kind of similar to the past two questions, but I’m running out of ideas LOL).

Probably Faith. She has always been insecure of herself and the power she possesses (I also gaveΒ her a rough childhood XD).

                                  Hi Rose!

Cool!! Scars are great. I give Alex and Penny more, eh, “severe-ish” as a two-for-one special with their scars XD Alex has, like, PTSD and Penny has constant nightmares. But everyone gets scars; no one gets to feel left out LOL.

                                  You’re welcome! πŸ™‚

I loveΒ The Wingfeather Saga so much! My family read those books as a read-aloud a couple years ago and it was great πŸ™‚ I mean there were definitely tears shed from me XD But it’s SO good, in my opinion. I guess that’s why most of the people on this site have read it LOL. Just add me to the list πŸ˜‰

Okay I really have to readΒ The False Prince now XD I like intelligent villains. I would say that’s kind of the opposite for my villain πŸ˜› I mean, I think he’s smart in the way that I’ve developed him, but I think I’ve made him too corrupted to be super intelligent XD

Ooo that’s so fun! Moments where I kind of agree with the villain are, like, “wow” LOL. Although, while I like those moments, I have to remind myself that they’re the villain for a reason XD

I’ll need to practice writing some gray characters! πŸ˜€ They sound fun to write out!
