I totally understand that 🙂 Thanks for wanting to though!
Thanks – I’ll keep that in mind if I do get a second round of readers. I don’t think I will, but I’ll be sure to tag you if I do!

Aw thanks 🙂 I appreciate that! If it was like a week past the end of Feb, I’d be fine with that, btw. Totally fine if that doesn’t work for you though. And I completely understand the business of moving house; my family has moved house at least five different times 😅.
I’ve already got several people who are going to beta read it as I posted it on YWW as well, though, which is helpful 🙂
Thanks again!

You’re welcome! Thank you! I posted the link to the book in the same post btw, if you just want to request access from that 🙂
That would be great – thank you, but only if he wants to 🙂

Thanks very much for all that information! It’s definitely very helpful 🙂
Here is the link to my book – https://docs.google.com/document/d/1n8A0wqjSuUfcC4cVfN5FT4rOPcQBZ_gm7jQhWPlpyFI/edit?usp=sharing
Once you request access, I’ll allow it 🙂
Thanks again!
Hey!
Cool! That’s totally fine – I’m looking for a mix of beta readers so that works great for me!
The format is Google Docs – you can highlight specific sections and comment on them which is pretty helpful.
Thanks for being interested!

Thank you! So, does that mean you would like to read my book?
Ah…that’s interesting. So, in WW2, did the Axis forces ever use gas to blind the soldiers in the trenches?
In some war films that I’ve watched, it shows gas being released into the trenches, and the soldiers having to put gas masks on. If they didn’t wear the masks, it caused eye problems, temporary blindness ( I think) etc…
In the context of the few sentences I posted up above, the enemy has released gas into the trenches and the soldiers are quickly putting on their gas masks. Did this ever happen?
Thanks again for helping!

I totally agree with what the others have said here 🙂
I love writing historical fiction (it’s my main genre) but I’m definitely not an expert at it. These are purely some of my thoughts 😉
I think including all the facts would be overwhelming for readers, but if you can choose just a few which allow you to write about a historical event but also add your own spin to it, can be really good. For example, if you’re writing about the attack on Pearl Harbour, you don’t need to include every single detail of how it happened, or the ships that were there, or how many planes attacked them. You want to be able to write about the event without boring readers with details that distract them or are unnecessary. Maybe choose one or two things that happened in that event and focus on them – you could write about the USS Arizona when it was sunk at Pearl Harbour, and you’re still writing about the attack on Pearl Harbour, but you’re not writing about everything that happened there. You’re choosing the part you want to make readers relive and imagine, and creating your own impression of it.
I’ve been told before that you still want to stick with the main important facts with historical events, though. I think this is definitely helpful because you also don’t want to write a book that is about a historical event but is inaccurate. It’s getting the balance between accuracy and how you decide to interpret those events that help craft your story into something different than just retelling history.
Have fun writing about history, but also enjoy the freedom of being able to put your own twist to it.
I think the main thing is whether or not you’re identifying your story as historical fiction with the intent of helping readers learn more about history in an accurate way, or if you’re using history to tell your story!
Hope that kinda helps 😉

I would definitely agree with the others about listening to music – I think it can help if you listen to something that is similar to what you’re trying to write (like emotional music that makes you feel emotional if you’re trying to write a sad scene or intense music for that scene that’s just filled with thrilling action) For example, I loved listening to the music from Pearl Harbour as I wrote a scene in my novella that goes through the attack on Pearl Harbour. It helped inspire me!
Also, I totally agree with @arindown – I totally find that I get more excited as I write. Once you get that first opening scene down that you’re satisfied with, I think it helps you feel excited to write more.
Have y’all ever had writers block when you’ve hardly written anything yet?
Yes! When I first started my novella, I had to rewrite the opening lines/scene a few times until I was actually pleased with it but during that time, it was really hard to know what to write. I think what helped me in that situation was forcing myself to just write. You might not find that helpful, but if I’m suffering from writer’s block, just writing something (even if I’m not pleased with it) can really help.
Sorry if that wasn’t really helpful xD
I hope you manage to find some solutions for you story:)

This looks fun xD
This is the first line of my novella:
“Nearly there,” the soldier whispered as he and another man ran through the mud, carrying the stretcher that held his best friend’s broken body.

@joelle-stone
Yeah, it is a lot of fun!
Aw, I hope you can join next time!Story Embers is good for getting beta readers too, though! I had a few people from on here beta read my short story a while ago. One of the girls in particular was really great at it; her feedback was super helpful!

That’s cool! Is your story a novel?
I’m in the editing stage for my novella at the moment. Hopefully soonish I might start recruiting some beta readers!

Thanks for the tag 🙂
It’s nice “seeing” you again xD
How’s your writing going?
~ Laugh. Drink Coffee. Smile. And Write ~
Lol…I like your sense of humor xD
I would never have guessed that you were sarcastic 😉 I’d say it’s my second language – I come from a very sarcastic family!
Nice…I’m probably similar, except I think I listen to soundtracks a bit more. Having no internet sounds like fun (not). That must be annoying.
Anyways, sorry for the late-ish reply, btw xD

Hello, Lady Anne 😉 (I love your username btw)
For some strange reason, I think you like books 😉
I’m glad to see that you’re a fellow coffee lover too xD
Just curious, are you sarcastic by any chance?
Your WIP sounds really good btw.
Do you like listening to soundtracks or songs more?
Anyways, I look forward to getting to know you 🙂
~ Laugh. Drink Coffee. Smile. And Write ~
You’re welcome 🙂
And I have used hairspray to keep my hair in curls too XD (unfortunately, my hair has a mind of it’s own 😉
Lol…it can be annoying sometimes but also nice having straight hair (even if it likes to do things its own way 😉 )

Just wanted to let you both know that YWWs is hosting their second Crazy Writing Week event. It’s free and allows you to experience what YWW is like (well, at least experience a lot of it 😉 ). I so enjoyed it last time. Here is the link to it just if you’re interested – https://crazywritingweek.com/.
If you do happen to join, my tag will be Abigail-Rebekah btw.
Sorry it took me so long to answer.😄 My name is actually Grace.
You’re all good 🙂 That’s a pretty name!
Well…it’s like making goals and kinda connecting with other writers. I’ve enjoyed it so far. I’m very much a free-spirit, write-when-insparation-strikes person, so it’s kinda helped me create good boundaries and get something done. I’m almost done with 10k words for July.
Oh, that sounds cool. That’s good that you’ve found it helpful. Congrats about your word count – that’s fab!
Thanks so much for the advice on actions scenes. I totally get what you mean. I need to keep that in mind as I write (not that I’m a very graphic writer anyway).
You’re welcome…I’m glad it made sense.
I’m 16. I really don’t want to get personal, but I’m a September baby too, and I was wondering, is your birthday nearer the beginning of Sep. or the end?😊
Oh cool…I don’t mind. My birthday is the 6th of September. When is yours? (No problem if you don’t want to be specific xD)
Also, I went and looked up YWW because you mentioned it, and it looks really cool. Funny thing, I was watching their promotional video, and I saw someone that I knew!😄
Nice…It is super cool. Lol, that is funny 😉
My family homeschools; how about you?
My family homeschools too xD
Cool, your sister did a great job! (My hair is too straight to do much with XD)
Yeah, she’s really good with hair. My hair is really straight too – it can be annoying sometimes cus if I want my hair curled, it will only really stay in if hair spray has been put on xD
