If we’re going by the movie Song of the Sea, she turns people to stone by trapping their emotions in glass jars. The more emotion she takes the closer her victim comes to being full stone. She sends her owls to do her bidding; they can use the glass jars to capture feelings as well.

Idk if I can explain it well.

Their magic system is pretty simple. You learn a spell, and make sure your pronunciation and wand motions are right. Then whatever the spell is supposed to do just happens. It does take effort to learn a spell, though. But after you’ve mastered it there’s no cost to casting it.
