Both sound great! (And I don’t mind drawing both sisters.) Gimme the details and I’ll get to work (along with the rest of my backlog of art requests and side projects… over-commitment is a heck of a trip!) ๐
Ah yes, Roaring Twenties… I have to ask, are there trench coats involved? Trench coats are a must you know.
For my part,…[Read more]

@deeprun – not my character, but it’s awesome!
(@beth20, also I’m STILL working on them. I got side-tracked. I need to go and find them and sketch them; hopefully I’ll have something by this afternoon (probably night for you).ย And @naiya-dyani I still need to go back and draw Kokai as not a 40 year old man).
To everyone else, I also wouldn’t…[Read more]

Hey, nice to meet you! I’m a bit on the older side for Story Embers, but it’s always nice to make new acquaintances. I’ll be looking through the thread – I’m also on the *LATE* side of Story Embers, but I’d love to hear more about your story and help where I can. That’s what this community is for, after all! @hope-ann, @kristianne-hassman
@devastate-lasting and @Princess-Foo have great responses – but I already typed this thing up so I may as well send it in. ๐
A quiet, passive, reserved character neednโt be inert.
While others are off gallivanting about, sassing each other and exchanging their witty repartee, she plays the part of the straight m…[Read more] -

@anne_the_noob14, Absolutely! It’s yours to keep. ๐
@naiya-dyani, Thanks for the feedback! I borrowed the face from the Japanese actor Sessue Hayakawa (1910s/20s – 60s) who was always type-cast as either a villain or a “forbidden lover” – dangerous passionate type. Plus that one still of him just looked super menacing.
But yeah I kinda thought…[Read more]

Still very much a work in progress – trying to get a feel for his face before I attempt a full body / pose + clothing. What do you think?

Thanks!
One more thing – do you have a description for their facial features? Expression and personality helps too!

@Beth20, Thanks!
I do have another question:
Merrill you mention as wearing a t-shirt and not loose jeans, but Jaylin is wearing cloth pants and shirt with a jerkin and a cloak – clothing from very different time periods.
What is the time period of their story and culture it’s set in? Are these meant to be modern day clothes (is one of them a…[Read more]

I’ll do my best to answer, and don’t be afraid to ask again if it doesn’t make sense the first time. I also apologize if this answer is kind of roundabout.
I think I understand where you’re coming from, especially as another man – as one who also has long fixated on his position as a servant of God, rather than a son. I have dealt with…[Read more]

I can’t guarantee doing all of them, but gimme the description of the one you want most (or a scene you want depicted) and I’ll give it a whirl. Believe it or not I usually draw girls, but it’s good practice for me to draw male characters (I’m very very pleasantly surprised at how well Wiggins turned out).
Also @anne_the_noob14, I’m glad…[Read more]

The Inkspiller replied to the topic Character Art Exchange in the forum Art Discussions 6 years, 3 months ago
Ok, thanks! I’ll have to look for Nyel and Kiet – that way Kokai can look distantly related.
I do have a few more questions:
Culture / “Time Period”:
What’s the clothing like? If you had to pick a historical period or culture, what would it be? (E.g., Livi picked 1600s Europe for her setting)
Judging by the name of Kokai, I…[Read more] -

So I’ve watched this thread grow and never once really figured out how to imagine my characters as memes, but I’ll give it a little ol’ whirl.
(Also forgive my stupendously antiquated music tastes…)

Like the others have said – quite different! The use of second person lent a hefty nostalgic feel to itย and gave it a poignant ‘in memoriam’ gravitas and atmosphere to what could otherwise have felt very impersonal or distant. The procession of false expectations, rumors, whispering, gossip, and mob rule was also brilliantly…[Read more]

This is a nuanced question, to say the least. It’s too easy to go to one extreme or the other – being obsessed with inoffensiveness to the point of stifling, or so crassly out of touch that one ends up as the poster child for “those views we don’t hold anymore” in three generations or so. But I’ll try my best…[Read more]

Seconding this. That honestly sounds like a very intriguing plot (or should I say character?) – and one that hints at being far more developed than what we can plainly see.

I don’t write poetry all that frequently, and I’ll be honest it’s a medium that I struggle to read and understand / appreciate, let alone write competently in. Yet it seems like God has a tendency of speaking through that medium during the darkening nights – of which the last four have felt like some of the longest.
Anyways, out of that long dark…[Read more]
