I don’t have any critiques – but as I was reading it I was struck by the second and third verses. I like the homophones there! I also like the variation in the length of the lines. I don’t always like poetry like that, I tend to prefer the same number of syllables in each line, but I think this works well here. I also like the…[Read more]

Hi Kayla! I do remember you, and I’m glad you’re back!
What’s your WIP about? Do you have any favorite books? What are some of your favorite crafts?
That’s really cool that you’re learning to knit! I never learned to knit, but it does seem fun (and practical.)I think that SE is…unfortunately rather inactive at the moment. I think that…[Read more]

@irishcelticredflowercrownOkay, from now until 8pm Eastern Time (USA) November 19th, I’m having a poll as to where we want to hold the writing group: over email or on discord? If you don’t reply by then, I will assume that…[Read more]

@ethan-leonard @the-inkspiller thanks. I’ll do a “poll” in the next day or so and see what the interest is.🙂 Looks like most people want discord, but the poll will make it all clear.

Agreed. I do prefer discord over regular text messaging, because (1) you can do large groups without using extra data, (2) you can have a dedicated server with separate rooms in it, (3) like you said, you can do mass voice/ video calls (and if you’re not comfortable with video, that’s ok, you can turn your cam…[Read more]

I don’t have discord, and neither does Joelle, if I read her post correctly. I may or may not be opposed to getting it–haven’t decided yet. My idea is to wait a few days and see how many others are interested in this idea, and then split into groups: a group…[Read more]

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
And I have a lot of research I need to do… Thank you for that as well.
The story was honestly just a concept that just floated into my brain and I was like “hmm I haven’t had a ton of motivation to write, but the story makes me feel really excited” And then I realized that I would probably have a lot of…[Read more]

Hey y’all, I’ve got a couple inquires for ya.
Whether you’ve written first person present or not, do you have any tips for writing it? Any common mistakes you see people commit?
Secondly, what are your thoughts on a first person present book with a few third person past interludes and possibly an epilogue? I’ve never seen a book with both past a…[Read more]

Introspection is written in many different ways, and I had a few questions and thoughts I wanted to discuss:
Do you use direct, italicized thought (where first person pronouns are used)? At first, I used basically none, but the more I looked at popular books, the more I see it used, and am thus tempted to use it (plus, I do like it, as long as…[Read more]

but I use them to break up what would otherwise be a marathon of a sentence or two awkward dumplings sat in separate bathroom stalls.
Yep, that’s when I use them too, but I do find that just separating the sentences by starting the latter one with a conjunction is something authors do relatively often (instead of a semicolon that…[Read more]

I understand the spirit of your example (expound more to make the telling more interesting), so I will keep that in mind, but the example itself doesn’t work at all–mostly due to the fact that Drastan himself is a mercenary. xD
Thanks for the response!
Yeaaaah… it’s usually best to avoid using “th…

Yeah, I have a lot of alcoholism in my family, so I know how they act, but I don’t know how they feel or what they think.
I just have one quick scene that I need this information for. It can be aggravating how much research goes into a few words XD
I actually knew some of that! I was in love with horses for a…[Read more]

@erynne You’re welcome, it’s certainly something that not everyone really knows what it’s like. Even for experienced drinkers it can be tough to divide up into understandable steps.
@the-inkspiller I agree, talking about difficulties in life can be as strong as the initial step taken to work past said difficulties. I do the same with mental…[Read more]

Pneumonia is a significant possibility due to aspirated water – that is, if he inhaled any water during the initial splash, or if he was under water long enough that he involuntarily gasped for air and inhaled water instead. Natural water isn’t purified and there isn’t really any telling what…[Read more]

Could a drowning victim be resuscitated in medieval/renaissance times, and how did they handle hypothermia?

Another question: if someone were stabbed in the back with a stiletto [dagger], where would the best place be for the stab to be survivable and how long would recovery be?
Thanks!
