> A cruel, calculating, Machiavellian warrior countess in her 30s / 40s

> Her heroic, chivalric young squire (teens to ~22ish)

> His best friend, bodyguard, and former thief / klepto (33)

> A troubled sorceress born with horns, claws, a tail, and involuntary telepathy (teens to 20s) [AND A MAD CRUSH ON THE SQUIRE]

> Best friend’s fiancee, a laundry maid / cook / and reluctant nurse

> The doted-upon tomboy daughter of the countess’s rival, with a love of hunting and a peerless poker face.
