@taylorclogston Yay! I happened to stumble on this. XD
Wow! Dark Places sounds… dark. 😛
Anyways…
I began work on a new short story this month and have been slowly writing up entries on one of my worlds. Which is super fun and interesting! But sorting through scattered notes can become a bit tedious. 😛 And then I wrote some poetry as u…[Read more]

Woops, so I completely misunderstood which week this was for!
What I’ve Played: So Kingdom Hearts 3 came out, and as the finale for the arc of the story thus far I was heavily anticipating it. It also serves as an object lesson in writing, if you’ve followed the series- is anyone else here a fan of KH? I don’t want to talk about…[Read more]

I don’t know if anyone else has noticed this problem yet, but I just discovered that when I tried to access the entire current guild war topic, I got the message “Page Not Found”. None of the stuff we discussed in the topic is there anymore. The only way to even access the discussion or the link to the guild war doc is from the notifications…[Read more]

Parimis. The first guild war of 2019 has arrived! And I’ve got a good feeling about this one. (As in, we’re going to love it and go crazy.)
Prompt: Write a story with an Unclichéd Happy Ending. (BITTERSWEET ENDINGS DON’T COUNT.)
Word Limit: 2500
Starts: *awkward cough* Apparently Monday 4th EST
Ends: Monday 18th EST
(So s…[Read more]

Hello, everyone. My name is Noah Litle. I’ve been on Story Embers for a while now, but I wanted to ask this and figured this was the best place to do it.
I’m going to be attending Realm Makers Conference this year, and I was wondering if there were any other…[Read more]

@taylorclogston @julia I think we could do a sequel or two, depending on how many other things authors often say. I’ll have to check the “Crazy Writers, Artists, and Dragons” thread to see if there’s any more. It’s where I got most of the quotes for the first one.
Glad you liked the video!!

@taylorclogston Zalal’s greater-scope view is honestly something I’ve been trying to mull over myself. Here was my thought process behind him, maybe it’ll help you see where I want to end up:
1. Write a genuinely evil villain to show that a) any excuses he might try and provide does not make evil any less evil, b) show that people with no…[Read more]

Hmm… 1) study other people – what makes them unique, distinctive, from others, and 2) find the right words to draw them out for the reader on page 😛 And 3) still make it work in the plot. Currently, I’m working on studying personalities… and even trying to see if I can get one of my characters imitating another character I…[Read more]

@j-a-penrose @taylorclogston @evelyn @steward-of-the-pen Actually, I was wondering if you guys could help out with my antagonist’s motive.
The idea I had was that Zalal, back when he was a good guy and an apprentice paladin, wanted “To be appreciated/respected for my talent”. However, because he didn’t learn that “Respect worth having is based…[Read more]

Hey Parimis!
What’s up. (:
Well, I’ve been working on a short story for a contest and I was hoping for some feedback since I don’t write short stories that much.
It’s called The Year of the Daisy and is short (haha, most of my short stories aren’t short but this one had a word limit xD) It’s about 2500 words. Okay 2498. ;P
Anyways, I would…[Read more]

A lot of the time, characters are written so that they are 100% good or bad. The protagonist is perfect, good looking, and maybe he has mild claustrophobia as a weakness. The villain is evil, kills puppies and shoots up old ladies in his spare time, and maybe every now and then he tortures someone who spilt his coffee instead of killing them.
If…[Read more]
