Wow, y’all have some amazing ideas and theories! I really loved reading them!
The people we love are beautiful to us.
You’re totally right, and it’s such a cool thing if you think about it!
I think it translates over to books (and movies), but I also think writers/film producers use appearance to enhance our terror of villains, ( )…

Since my sci-fi is in another universe, then I think I’ll treat it like a fantasy. Do you think that there’s a specific type of God-figure I should go for? Or is it kind of a you-decide thing like in fantasy?

@devastate-lasting I really like those choices! I love the drawn-out nature of a lot of those original Japanese titles. The Town Where Only I Am Missing is probably my favorite on that list. I also really like your I Hid Beneath My Umbrella So the Adults Wouldn’t See Me Cry.
@rose-colored-fancy I like The Rooftoppers title!

Because I picked it when I was 15 and 1) was worried about privacy and 2) wanted a name that seemed “cooler” than my real name. XD I realized the no-name-change-required perk a bit later. Nowadays I use my real first name in a lot of situations, but I still use my pen name on published works and in my more professional online-only…[Read more]

Nice!! Yep, cybersecurity is definitely a big thing nowadays.
That’s cool!! What are your favorite hymns? That would be so cool to learn soundtrack music!! I really love that kind of music, especially the soundtracks from Narnia, The Lord of the Rings, The Pirates of the Caribbean, and The Hobbit. They’re so well done! Oh, yeah, waltzes…[Read more]

You great someone by kissing, but not actually kissing–just touching cheeks and making a kissing sound…
Oh, the Dutch do that too! But it’s kind of a regional thing, mostly in the west and the south. It’s usually three kisses, right, left, right. Also, you don’t do it if you just meet someone, you have to know them pretty well before you do…[Read more]

In Korea, you usually do not look someone in the eye when speaking to them as that is considered very rude
Lol, I think I’d do better in Korea. I hate direct eye contact XD
In Egypt it is considered rude to put more salt on your food.
And, in Venezuela you’re looked down upon if you’re on time to anything. It’s traditional to drive…[Read more]

Hi @kimlikesart!
Ooh, I love non-fiction articles! What sort of things do you write about?
Nice! I think mine would be a deep greyish blue 🙂
Thank you!

Hello, y’all! I studied Latin last year and it’s not a dead language. I think we can all agree on that XD I passed my exam last year, so I’m not studying it anymore, but I still find myself muttering “Baro, stultus!” at people and getting way too excited when I can translate Latin ‘in the wi…[Read more]

Taylor Clogston replied to the topic God(s) in Fantasy in the forum Fantasy Writers 5 years, 3 months ago
@sparrowhawke I don’t think it’s inherently bad. I have no doubt someone could make it work as well as any other mythological model. But I’d be wary as a reader if I picked up a book (specifically one by someone claiming to be a Christian author) and saw this as the mythology, though, because I’d assume it was trying to subversively push a…[Read more]

Yay! Glad you feel good with what you originally wanted. It’s always sad to me when authors don’t write what they want to write just because their readers like something else better.
And you do have a good point about not necessarily “Christian” books still being able to have important truths. I guess I had never thought that books…[Read more]

@sparrowhawke Interesting thread!
My thoughts on your two options:
- This sounds like the heresy of Ashera as a mother-goddess consort to Yahweh.
- If your conscience bothers you, don’t do it. In any event, writing a story with fall, sin, savior probably makes it Christian fiction in and of itself =P
How well do you know the theology of Lewis…[Read more]

@sparrowhawke I was going to reply earlier, but this is a really hard topic.😆 I think I agree with Lona…the first one seems more plausible.
I think the problem with most writers is not what they have for “gods,” but how they do them. The Chronicles of Narnia dealt with 2 “persons,” Aslan and the King Across the Sea, but it doesn’t seem weird at…[Read more]

Lona replied to the topic God(s) in Fantasy in the forum Fantasy Writers 5 years, 3 months ago
Hey again!
I think your first idea could work just fine. Sin is a natural part of this fallen world and it would be very difficult to write a book that had none of it whatsoever. Redemption, too, I think follows just because there’s sin in the first place and something needs to be able to counteract it.
Ok, so now for some…[Read more]

Daeus Lamb replied to the topic Using a Pen Name in the forum General Writing Discussions 5 years, 3 months ago
People generally create a pen name because:
- They think readers have a bias against female authors so they make their name sound more masculine or gender neutral. I have no strong opinions on how true this is, but if you go this route consider using initials to hide your gender instead.
- They want to remain completely anonymous.…

Arindown replied to the topic Using a Pen Name in the forum General Writing Discussions 5 years, 3 months ago
@sparrowhawke My only thought is that you have to be consistent with whatever name you pick, and to make sure you don’t have the same name as someone else.
I’m planning to use my real name, but instead of Grace, I’ll put Gracie, because there is already a writer with my name.
