Daeus Lamb started the topic How To Enrich Your Story Worlds By Inventing Original Slang in the forum Annual Theme Discussion 7 years, 4 months ago
Hey Saxon Scribes!
Last week I missed our theme discussion because I got buried in research on the topic. Since then, I compiled all my thoughts into an article which I plan to submit to SE. First though, I’d like to share it with you and get your feedback. 🙂

There I was, gobbling up page after page of Out of the Silent Planet. Was…[Read more]

Daeus Lamb started the topic Run The Race Movie in the forum General Writing Discussions 7 years, 4 months ago
Hey everyone on the forum. Yes, you.
There’s a Christian film coming out February 22nd called Run The Race and I actually got the chance to preview it at a film festival last year.
Guys, it’s really good! Maybe it’s just slightly cliché, but there’s so much going for it that it gets a resounding A+ from me.
Here are some things I liked about it…[Read more]

Daeus Lamb started the topic World building – governments in the forum Annual Theme Discussion 7 years, 4 months ago
Hey Saxon Scribes, as someone who never follows politics, I feel sheepish writing this, but I’ve learned a few things through experience and I wanted to leave you with a challenge.
Few things define a society like its government. Yet, for those of you like me who aren’t familiar with the ins and outs of politics, this can be unnatural t…[Read more]

Daeus Lamb started the topic Sanderson's third law – for truly extraordinary worldbuilding in the forum Annual Theme Discussion 7 years, 5 months ago
Saxon Scribe, ahoy!
I’m rubbing my hands that I get to tell you about Sanderson’s third law today. Brandon Sanderson is, of course, a famous fantasy author and he developed three laws for how to develop magic systems. You may enjoy reading all his three laws, but today we’re going to focus on law #3 because it applies to spec-fic writers and…[Read more]

Daeus Lamb started the topic Want to get your thoughts on some ideas for guilds in the forum Announcements 7 years, 5 months ago
Hey guys,
The other guild masters and I have been talking about the guilds and we thought we might be able to improve them with a few minor changes. I would really love your opinion on these. We’re not planning on any of these yet, just toying with the ideas, but if you really like them we might roll them out.
Here they are:

R.M. Archer started the topic Thread of Musical Writers in the forum General Writing Discussions 7 years, 5 months ago
I know a lot of us on here are musical people as well as writers, whether we play instruments or sing or just like listening to it, and @ericawordsmith mentioned starting a thread, so I did.
I’ll tag all the musical people I can find, but I’m almost certain to miss people. 😛
First off, what instrument(s) do you play? (Including…[Read more]

I can believe that you would be strongly attached to your characters after working with them for as long as eight years! But I also understand how it’s good to move on to new stuff…have you given up on Exotic or are you just putting it on hold for a little while?
Heh-heh…so out of pure curiosity I mentioned…[Read more]

@bama-rose I’ve never heard of a piano exam. What is it?
@literatureforthelight Yeah, we should write more musical stories.
Which era of classical music is your favorite? Do you have a favorite composer? Favorite worship song to play?
I recently discovered Vaughan Williams’ Phantasy Quintet. It’s amazing!

@literatureforthelight, I’ll probably do something like that when I come around to finishing the second draft. Right now I don’t think it’s good enough for an alpha reader. It’s very rough! But thank you for the suggestion. 🙂
@msqueen8, Thank you! Yes, I’m very excited that I finally finished it. 😀
Yeah, my drafts occasionally blend into the n…[Read more]

Daeus Lamb started the topic Worldanvil in the forum Annual Theme Discussion 7 years, 5 months ago
There are two pitfalls with worldbuilding. It seems you either don’t worldbuild enough or you worldbuild so much you can’t keep track of it all.
Worldanvil helps you fix both these problems. Thanks to @kate for recommending it to me.
While this site is built for speculative fiction writers, it could also work well for anyone who wants to…[Read more]

Eden Anderson replied to the topic Prayer requests #1 in the forum Prayer Requests 7 years, 5 months ago
Hey everybody, I’m requesting prayer for my Grandpa, who is dying. He’s my last grandparent who is still living. We don’t know how longer he will linger…it could be sooner or later. He’s 96, so he’s lived a long and good life…but death is still hard. He has dementia and when we go and visit him he doesn’t know us, and he doesn’t really talk…[Read more]

That’s cool! I joined a small town band recently, but we just play for fun. Although its kinda tricky fitting it into my schedule — I’m so busy already!!

WOW! That’s amazing how much you know of music! And my sister would love to join you in four-part-harmony. She’s the singer. I don’t sing, but I’ve been taking piano lessons since I was four, and I learned the flute a year ago. Have you ever…[Read more]

@literatureforthelight, Aw, thanks!
Yeah, I’m definitely going to have to work on these things. I know setting is something I really struggle with in writing. Mostly because I tend to just skimp over it. 😛 So…[Read more]

Hey, guys! I’m here! Sorry I’m so late.
Okay, so I kind of dismissed this thread, because I’m not really a world builder (sorry, @daeus-lamb). But just today I realized how this topic applies to my own writing (and my aversion to world building).
I was watching some Like Stories Of Old videos from YouTube (check him out here, like, seriously @kat…[Read more]
