Greetings fellow scriveners!
Excuse me for the “Mysterious Benedict Society”-esque title, it was the most fitting. XD
As some of you know, and the rest are to find out, I’ve been planning a new project. It’s a fantasy set in an alternate Edwardian/Rococo timeline, and it involves pirates, spies, and seamstresses. (And several other interesting…[Read more]

Nithel hadn’t quite realized he was vanishing until Alessio raced over and he reached for the youth’s hand. Nithel’s hand was like a mist. He was fading. The man’s heart dropped, and he looked stunned at his friend. Shaking his head slowly, I don’t want to leave you. I want to leave this accursed place. But not without you… Oh Alessio… But…[Read more]

@kimlikesart OOOOOH I LIKES THIS!!!!!!
Alessio was still trying to process all the chaos in his head when everything exploded into color that could’ve cracked under his skull. Instinct jolts him to his feet, snatching for any noise to prepare for a sudden attack from any direction. A moan like the whole ground gusting with pain. And suddenly e…[Read more]

My lord, The Castle, is getting angry.
Everyone was just standing there!!! AND HE HADN’T EVEN PUT THEM IN A TIME-WARP. They were just standing still, not moving.
Well then, if you’re going to be like that…
There was a bright flash of light, and everyone was blinded in it. A strange groaning surrounds them. Then they’re back inside a room.…[Read more]

Hey, hey my friends, today, I would like to confess something: One of my beta readers died from over exposure to internal conflict. xD Jk, the reader is fine, but my writer’s conscience is not. 😄
I’ve ran into a noticeable problem in my writing, and that is the way I’m trying to show my internal conflict. I want what my characters are going…[Read more]

You must, and now I shall tout her praises all the more. 😉
And, OH, I learned a brilliant tip from @this-is-not-an-alien !!
She taught me to go into each chapter and write down everything I have planned out in my head, like an outline, and t…

Oh, good. *wipes forehead* November’s usually a pretty busy month what with school and Thanksgiving and other stuff going on.
Same! It’s kinda a weird time of the year to have it but… *shrugs* I’m going to try to make it work!

Count me as extremely impressed! That’s amazing, you’ve been so productive! What’s your current word count and what’s your goal?
Thanks for the encouragement. 🙂 I think I’m around 130k in my novel, and the final product will probably be 160k-180k. Editing will probably get rid of some of that though. When I first started…[Read more]

Thanks for your input, that helps a lot! I’ve heard about the NaNo official website’s worldviews, and I’m definitely wary about it, as I am with most non-christian forums.
Thanks for mentioning the discord servers! I don’t have discord, but it may be an option!
However, it seems enough people are interested that we could have it on…[Read more]

It’s a very secular website. The dashboard and everything is fine. The forums are generally friendly enough. But I’m no longer on it because the owners vocally support a lot of stuff that I don’t agree with, and they do so with NaNoWriMo (a practice which I have problems with in and of itself, but that’s its own topic). So it’s…[Read more]

@joelle-stone NaNoWriMo is a challenge to write 50,000 words of a single project in 30 days (the month of November). At least traditionally. Some people use the month to achieve other writing goals. But it was created as a way to help people finish novels. 🙂

Hello! For once in my life, I’m early to something! XD
During the summer, I participated in Crazy Writing Week, and it helped me more than I ever thought possible. Prior to starting, I was suffering from a lack of motivation and general stuck-ness, even though I was on the home stretch of my first draft. Afterward, I had enough momentum that I…[Read more]

Awesome to see you here!
Ooh, I’ve heard of that one!
Likes: I went into this thinking that I’d probably end up disliking his writing style, since I’ve read a few of his other books and been a little disappointed that the plot was so great but the writing was so bad.
I think this was mostly why I haven’t seriously looked at it.…[Read more]

I wondered if that what was you meant, I was hoping that was what you meant. 🙂 One of the things that I am a huge proponent of is only marrying people who share your core beliefs on religion and how to live your life. There really is an invisible battle going on ALL around us.

Hey, y’all!
The discussion on “Does reading make you a better writer?” sparked this idea.
Which books have you (recently) read and what did you learn from them? It doesn’t have to be super in-depth, and you don’t even have to have enjoyed the book, but if it taught you something, I’d love to hear about it!
I’ll go first and list a couple off…[Read more]
