That was so good! Dun dun dun!
So, I was looking through the copy of the story that my mom made, and I found some info that I thought I should post on here.
Although the “treasure” that is mentioned on this map isn’t explained further in the book, I can only assume it was one of the three great arti- facts that belonged to the Ancients. Larawen can tell you more about them, but they were a jeweled Harp of great value and beauty, a Bow and quiver of arrows specialized to hit their target no matter the distance or poor aim of the archer, and a Sapling.
[The tree] But it is said to have powers to preserve peace and prosperity in the community it grows in. It is a white tree, the only descendant of Silpion*, the white tree that was the first tree ever planted by our Creator. There is only one such tree in the world at a time; it blooms for many, many years. The lifespan varies so greatly there is not average. Some trees live for thousands of years, others for less than a decade. But once they bear a single seed, their time is near. You must pluck the seed when the leaves are silver and fairly glowing with light, otherwise it will not be fertile when you plant it and the tree will be lost forever.
The arti- facts were said to have kept the Lost City organized, safe, and prosperous. That’s why it was such a paradise. The Harp symbolized the minstrels who kept Londima full of music and laughter, while the Bow symbolized protection and se- curity, to keep Londima’s citizens safe, and the Tree symbolized peace and pros- perity. It would glow at night, thus making Londima full of light whether day or night. It was said to be… well, for lack of a better word, paradise there. “Unfortunately, the Great Beast came. It despised the light, hated the music, and longed so much to show its power that it defied the Bow. It stole away the Harp first, plunging Londima into sorrow and silence. Then it came and killed the archer who bore the Bow and threw it deep into the oceans of the world, while he scattered the arrows anywhere and everywhere. It is said that once the Bow is recovered, the arrows will return themselves to their quiver, but who knows? Then, he ravaged the city, searching for the young sapling that had just been planted. He killed many elves and the remnant fled. The city was completely de- molished; the once crystal clear streams polluted, the animals that lived their happily and peacefully became hunted, and the plants withered. But the tree…” Thinon looked off into the distance. “The Beast came to tear the tree up by its roots and crush it to pieces. But no matter how much it dug, how much it burned the little sapling’s leaves and trunk, how much it pulled and tugged, the sapling slipped through its clumsy claws. Its leaves did not burn, and its roots were too deep to be thwarted by digging. So the Beast left it, covered its light forever with the rubble of a thousand homes, and found its purpose guarding Londima from anyone and everyone. It was a great tragedy for the elves, one that will never be forgotten even if it is a legend.
So, yeah… I thought that might be helpful. It was from a paragraph by Kinnan. At some point I’ll post the character bios (not Holly’s as Jasmine changed her. Hers is on page 10.) too.
