Daeus Lamb started the topic Run The Race Movie in the forum General Writing Discussions 7 years, 5 months ago
Hey everyone on the forum. Yes, you.
There’s a Christian film coming out February 22nd called Run The Race and I actually got the chance to preview it at a film festival last year.
Guys, it’s really good! Maybe it’s just slightly cliché, but there’s so much going for it that it gets a resounding A+ from me.
Here are some things I liked about it…[Read more]

Hey Saxon Scribes, as someone who never follows politics, I feel sheepish writing this, but I’ve learned a few things through experience and I wanted to leave you with a challenge.
Few things define a society like its government. Yet, for those of you like me who aren’t familiar with the ins and outs of politics, this can be unnatural t…[Read more]

Hi all!
(Would it be terribly presumptuous of me if I greeted instead with my initial option – “Greetings, ladies & gentlemen” 😉
I recently (finally) watched Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi. Being a fan and a writer, I’m currently trying to analyze this film (while also recovering from all the twists and turns it took me through as a…[Read more]

Over the months of February and March I’ll be re-writing and expanding a worldbuilding series I did last year on my blog, and one of the new topics I’m interested in posting about is how people can effectively cover hard topics (slavery is now the only example I have off the top of my head) in their fantasy/sci-fi worldbuilding. The thing is, I…[Read more]

Daeus Lamb started the topic Sanderson's third law – for truly extraordinary worldbuilding in the forum Annual Theme Discussion 7 years, 5 months ago
Saxon Scribe, ahoy!
I’m rubbing my hands that I get to tell you about Sanderson’s third law today. Brandon Sanderson is, of course, a famous fantasy author and he developed three laws for how to develop magic systems. You may enjoy reading all his three laws, but today we’re going to focus on law #3 because it applies to spec-fic writers and…[Read more]

The Fledgling Artist started the topic Character Design help? in the forum Art Critique 7 years, 5 months ago
Hello, my artsy friends! (Or, writer friends. You guys are welcome here too. 😀 )
Does anyone have any opinions or advice on how to improve this character design? I’m working on the color palette specifically, but if you have thoughts on anything else that’s great too. 🙂 Just ’cause character design has a LOT to do with the character (No!…[Read more] -

Hey guys,
The other guild masters and I have been talking about the guilds and we thought we might be able to improve them with a few minor changes. I would really love your opinion on these. We’re not planning on any of these yet, just toying with the ideas, but if you really like them we might roll them out.
Here they are:

There are two pitfalls with worldbuilding. It seems you either don’t worldbuild enough or you worldbuild so much you can’t keep track of it all.
Worldanvil helps you fix both these problems. Thanks to @kate for recommending it to me.
While this site is built for speculative fiction writers, it could also work well for anyone who wants to…[Read more]

Hey friends,
Some of you may know that about a year ago I released an in-depth e-course on show don’t tell.
Today, I completely finished all the scripts for part 3 of the course. I’m looking to see if anyone is interested in being a beta for it. What’s in it for you? You’d get free access to part 3 when it is released (value ~$70-$100).

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
One more day and 2019 will be here. 2018 will be gone forever. It’s a good time to reflect on where we’ve come from and where we are going.
So, that’s what this thread is about. I thought if might be fun to tell eachother what we accomplished in 2018 and what some of our goals are for the coming year.

Calling all of my artists!
I’ve been thinking lately of something new I wanted to try and that is doing some sort of monochromatic piece, so I decided to challenge you all to try it with me.
If you don’t know what that means, here are some examples I pulled off of Pinterest.

So it’s basically doing everything in one color. The benefits of…[Read more]

@elizabeth I’m a little bit in the same boat regarding my WIP, but I’m just going ahead and writing it, because I know that I can’t grasp everything at once, and certainly not in my first draft. When I come back the second time and finally can see everything from a much broader place, that’s when I’ll work in the foreshadowing, fix plot holes, and…[Read more]

2. We’ve decided there will be no word war the end of this month due to Christmas. 😉

Howdy, y’all!
Not a very Saxon greeting, but whatever.
We’re talking about worldbuilding today and as I was thinking about this I remembered one of my favorite things about fantasy (this lesson applies to all genres, trust me). Fantasy, particularly, is the genre that revolves around the importance of the past. That might sound weird because HF…[Read more]
