Hey Avensers!

Sorry it took me so long to post another theme topic XD. Today I have a question for you inspired by a book called, The Emotional Craft of Fiction.

Do you think fear can hinder us from imbuing our stories emotion? If so, how?

Morning, Avensers! 😀

I completely forgot to lay out what our guild actually is for the new recruits *facepalm*. So, here’s a brief outline of what we do here:

What’s the purpose of the guilds?

The purpose of the guilds is to foster a small community of writers who can encourage and strengthen each other.

Here are all the subcategories of Ave…[Read more]

I’m going to be honest, I couldn’t think of anything to post this week. So, since topic #10 didn’t have any replies (because I didn’t tag anyone. Silly me. 😛 ), I thought I’d revive and expand on it.

A while back I found this quote in a book about fiction and emotion, and it hit me pretty hard:

“When readers feel strongly, their hearts are o…

Gabrielle Pollack replied to the topic Topic #14: What Makes Your Character Emotional? in the forum Annual Theme Discussion 8 years, 1 month ago

@christianna-hellwig I think it will work, but I find it’s easier to draw my character’s values from his backstory. What happened in his past (how he was raised, his culture, and the trauma he has experienced) all shape what he believes. Those values then determine what he gets emotional over. When you backtrack along his emotions to reach his…[Read more]

Hey Avensers!

I have another little exercise for ya.

Emotional reactions are often connected to what we value. When something we hold dear is insulted, it evokes a strong emotional reaction. That said, what characters get emotional about should be directly tied to what they value.

Say your character Phil loves unicorns and has dedicated many…[Read more]
