Eltar’s PoV:
Wen flew up, glaring after Allen. “He said what?!” Eltar rose to her level, placing a hand on her shoulder. “Calm down. His world is different.” The fire in his cousin’s eyes died. “I know,” she whispered sadly, “but I made an oath, Eltar. You remember that. I swore to protect ALL dragons as leader of the Rangers and heir to Avarya. And I must explain to them and apologize.” She darted after the dragons. Eltar groaned, wheeling to the others remaining. He bowed. “I apologize for my cousin’s impetuousness. She still has much to learn of being a leader.” He whipped round and ran after her.
Could one steal past those watchful dragons? I thought I could.
-C.S. LewisDecember 7, 2020 at 5:17 pm #122425Thank you!!! And that is such a cool twist to the wall, I love it!
***
The blind girl: “I’m sorry,” was what she said, and Kiark and Wylo looked on, speechless; too surprised to move. Kiark thought: what a brave kid. Wylo was doubtful, but inspired.
The dragon relaxed, and just as Kiark started to let out a breath, the creature snapped the girl up in her claws. The prince drew his sword yet again, growling hotly under his breath, and Wylo braced himself. If the girl needed saving, they would be there save her — it didn’t seem as if the others were quite capable of doing that. But then, the dragon put her down again with a huff of smoke. It was a buzz of confusion:
“What are you doing?” “Let her go!” “Saving her life!” “Get back, idiota! Do you just want to die?!” “He said what?!” “I apologize for my cousin’s impetuousness. She still has much to learn of being a leader.”
While this was happening all around them, Wylo noticed the impending wall as another source of confusion and darted forward toward the cave. Kiark was on his heels, shouting “of all the great Points of Crone!” in his startled state. But Wylo held him back until all of the others had entered the cave, then followed in behind them. Now they would be alerted of anything up ahead, and able to retreat as the first.
Kiark accidentally poked Wylo in the back in with the tip of his sword in his careless hurry, and the High-ark jumped forward, bumping into someone in front of him.

Whoever wants to be bumped into, go ahead! I just figured I needed to get these two bachelors interacting with someone other than themselves 😉

I light the arrow, pull the bow,
Shoot that fire right through my soul.December 7, 2020 at 6:11 pm #122434Eltar whirled around, relaxing slightly when he saw the two from earlier. He raised a hand. “Greetings. I don’t believe we exchanged names. I am Eltar. And you?”

-C.S. LewisDecember 8, 2020 at 4:53 pm #122473In a low voice, Kami whispered, “Don’t make any sudden movements that may alarm them. They seem intelligent so I’m not too concerned. ”She glanced at him and he gave her an easy smile. She only glared at him.
Why was she being so hostile?
because I don’t know where I am.
so? Is that really a reason to be mean?
Gwendolyn huffed, angry at her own thoughts.
Gwendolyn watched in half fear and half wonder as a girl, who seemed to be blind, leaned against the dragon. She murmured something and the dragon seemed to calm. Then, to Gwendolyn’s horror, the dragon snatched up the girl. Gwendolyn’s arrow was trained on the dragon’s eye and a few swords sprang out. But the dragon set the girl down and the weapons where lowered. Then she noticed a giant wall of spikes.
so I am trapped
Alarmingly, they seemed to be moving forward, closing in on the cave. She sprang away from the crowd and the alarmed voices that came with it. She fired her arrow at the wall, slung her bow across her shoulder and drew her sword. She swung the blade in an overhead slice and tried to hack through the wall. CLANG. The sword bounced back with a new-found chip in its blade. The wall didn’t even have a dent.
It’s useless
She would have to go into the cave. The trap. It seemed this whole place was a trap. Maybe it was.
she returned her blade to its sheath and stepped away from the wall. She walked into the cave along with the crowd. There was one question on her mind and she had a mind to ask it. She drew her sword and tapped it a few times on one of the many mirrors. It rang loudly and echoed down the maze attracting the attention of the people, dragons, dog, and little fairy guy.
“Who is in charge here?” She asked loudly.
Beautiful things don't ask for attention
December 8, 2020 at 8:54 pm #122484It was closing in fast. Some two aristocratic guys headed in last. Rosario grabbed the blind girls hand and jolted her inside.
“Is she ok?!” At the noise, Rosario whirled around.
“Get in, idiota!” She pushes Riure through the chasm before yanking Ehud in by the elbow just as somebody yelled “of all the great Points of Crone!” For a second they were gulped by pitch dark. Then a slam as the mouth of the beast snapped shut.
“Heh,” Ehud would’ve panicked if he hadn’t felt Rosario’s painfully tight grip on his arm. A dim red-orange light picked up against shimmering kaleidoscope reflections off the wall mirrors like scales. “Yay, we get to die!”
The next thing he knew Rosario slammed him into the wall.
“I told you to get in,” Her breath was so close he could feel it and the red glow picked shards between her curls like blood. “When are you going to grow up, Ehud?! This is exactly what you did at the–…” She cut herself off and lilted his head up until their eyes were level. Hadn’t noticed before but they were opposite colors. His were as clear and bright as a sunswept sky and her’s were as enigmatic and dark as death. “When I tell you to do something, Ehud, I mean it. You don’t think about the consequences of your actions, you put all of us in danger. Mi ayuda, Ehud, and just let it go.”
Releasing him, Rosario started to walk away. The same…his mother left with that calm sort of fury…she didn’t take him with her. She didn’t even say goodbye.
“If you had been honest with me I would’ve been aware of the danger…” Ehud mumbled, blinking slowly. She froze.
“What did you say?” Her voice was so low he tensed like a paralyzing knife shoved through his chest.
“I’m not a little kid anymore!” he blurted “stop trying to protect me from the truth!”
“The truth?” She turned to him. “The truth that could’ve killed your brother, could’ve killed me? Don’t think this is some cheap spy game where the bad guys wouldn’t really hurt you. Do you know what an interrogation cell is like, because I do, and if they had caught you they would not have killed you. Do you understand?”
Ehud couldn’t get enough of the knot in his throat out to answer. Blinking a stinging film back he stuffed his shaky hands in his pockets. Between the two of them they both knew Ehud never cried loud enough to be noticed after his father under LSD nearly killed him for “making so much racket”. Most cases someone like Ehud she’d say had never been hurt enough to understand real trouble. But Ehud, she could never get how he could be so hurt and still so naïve.
“…I just wanted to find your dad like…you always talked about him…” The shiny gauze in his eyes picked up red pigments that seemed to sharpen the crystal blue-gray. Mutely she ran her thumb over his cheek wiping an escaped tear. Rosario let out a quiet sigh.
“Why could you do something so stupid, carino?”
“Your birthday was coming up,” he muttered “it was the best dumb idea I could think of…”
“Oh Ehud,” Pulling him into a hug she gave a raspy laugh. He couldn’t see her eyes glaze a second as she brushed off the thought. He squeezed so tight she could feel the bones in his fingers. So scared of being abandoned even now.To be a light to the world you must shine in the darkness.

December 9, 2020 at 6:53 pm #122514That was SO touching. Like, wow. Now I love Ehud even more! And I’m starting to soften up toward Rosario after that, too. She’s not just rock hard.

Heh, thanks! (One of those glorious moments where it actually pays to be a drama queen XD)Now I love Ehud even more! And I’m starting to soften up toward Rosario after that, too. She’s not just rock hard.
Man, I wasn’t quite sure how everyone’d respond to that it was a new layer to their characters and I wasn’t sure well that’d pay off. Thanks guys!
Chang!
Chang! Chang!
Rosario frowned and disentangled herself from Ehud’s grip enough to shake him a little.
“What possesses you, idiota, to bang the mirrors so any monster will be alerted to our presence?”
“I didn’t do it,” he grumbled peevishly “what makes you think I did it?”
“Ehud..-”
“Don’t answer that!”
“Who is in charge here?” The girl with the bow demanded loudly.
“Million dollar question.” Ehud mumbled. Rosario just shook her head while Ehud peeked over her shoulder. Pushing him off she ruffled his hair before moving into clear view of all the castle victims.
“Right now there is no one in charge. For us to successfully survive this ordeal someone will have to take the reins. Since you so recklessly gave away our position to any beast or person within perhaps a ten miles radius, we will have to establish both a parameter and systemized defense system.” Folding her arms she scans the group and scoffs. “We’ve got a long way to go before we’re half a functional team.”
By the time she had finished Ehud had relocated Riure and held her hand reassuringly. There were several people in the group that seemed used to holding power. This was irritating because they would feel entitled.
“No one here is getting any special treatment.” she said deliberately “right now we’re all in the same position and we better act like it. We share the same hardships and the same rewards and if we’re lucky we live. Understood?”
Probably, this lot wouldn’t be ready to officially accept any leader so she decided not to go there. It would be a matter of watching and waiting to see who’s prerogatives most of them would follow along with.
“Now. Might I suggest that we search in groups of no less then two and no more than four within whatever areas are easily traversed in half and hour. All resources and information found is to be brought back here where we will discuss further plans of actions.” Rosario said sternly, holding eye contact with each member of the group individually. “Unless anyone has a more logical suggestion?”To be a light to the world you must shine in the darkness.
December 9, 2020 at 9:43 pm #122518“Greetings. I don’t believe we exchanged names. I am Eltar. And you?” Wylo nearly fell over backwards in surprise; then he steadied himself. He narrowed his eyes at the man as he put a hand to the back of his shirt. After a moment’s pause, he said, “Wylo Reni,” in a gruff voice and looked away. He was not used to seeing new faces that close. He ignored the sticky, wet feeling that was slowly growing in his back and drew away crimson stained fingers before crossing his arms to hide them.
Kiark had sheathed his sword and ran a hand through his hair, tugging at it in worry before taking a step forward. “Kiarkus Reni, nice to meet you. Do you know what’s going on?” he asked the fellow called Eltar. Then he turned to his uncle and cleared his throat. “Wylo, sorry about that, I….” not realizing he hadn’t waited for Eltar to answer.
He glanced at the minor wound on his uncle’s back and scrunched his eyebrows. He was mentally screaming at himself: You ignorant, careless fool. What a great prince you will make, stabbing your own soldiers in the back.
But Wylo stood up straight. It wasn’t bad, just a prick, and he could tell that the bleeding was trickling to a halt. But that naive, clumsy jester, exactly like his father. So vain and proud. His mind raced with evil thoughts of the High-ark, and his heart grew cold. He forgot the kindness of the brother who had loved him, and he glared at Kiark with stormy grey eyes that were, for perhaps the first time in a long time, filled with actual feeling. Simmering anger. This boy was the son of his brother, and no better than he was.
Kiark stared back, and he was startled. His uncle looked like he was ready to murder him and not worry about repenting of it later. I’m sorry, uncle, I was careless. I did not pay attention, I’m sorry. But it’s not that bad. It wasn’t my fault. He leveled his gaze with Wylo’s and then turned away and snarled. Be a man, now, Wylo!
At the moment, a loud, startling clang of steel against glass rang out in the cavern. It was the brown haired girl with the bow, and she shouted in an authoritative voice, “who is in charge here?”
Wylo tore his eyes from his nephew and glared at the girl. Don’t you think if anyone was in command here he would’ve spoken up by now?
Kiark was disturbed and didn’t really digest the question. He just stared at her and waited for someone to answer. What is wrong with me?
Just then, someone did. It was the curly headed girl with a temper that kept snarling “idiota.”
“Right now there is no one in charge. For us to successfully survive this ordeal someone will have to take the reins. Since you so recklessly gave away our position to any beast or person within perhaps a ten miles radius, we will have to establish both a parameter and systemized defense system.” Folding her arms she scanned the group and scoffed. “We’ve got a long way to go before we’re half a functional team.”
She’s an insulting child, Wylo thought sourly, but she’s right.
That’s degrading, Kiark thought as he was jerked out of his contemplations.
“No one here is getting any special treatment.” she said deliberately “right now we’re all in the same position and we better act like it. We share the same hardships and the same rewards and if we’re lucky we live. Understood?”
Wylo and Kiark both had the same thought, even though they knew she was right: go ahead, we’re brainless, stupid children.
“Now. Might I suggest that we search in groups of no less then two and no more than four within whatever areas are easily traversed in half and hour. All resources and information found is to be brought back here where we will discuss further plans of actions.” The girl said sternly, holding eye contact with each member of the group individually. “Unless anyone has a more logical suggestion?”
When her eyes locked on his, Wylo stared back with a unreadable stare, and Kiark flashed his own brilliant eyes. It was a good plan, simple enough for the others to follow, most likely, and it was better than standing around waiting to die a slow but sure death of painful starvation. Kiark stepped forward, heedless of his uncle and wanting to get as far from him as possible.
“I think its a good plan. I’ll go. Anyone with me?” he held out his arms and smiled, and it was a real smile. He needed someone new, he had to get away from Wylo.

True that! 😀
“I think it’s a good plan. I’ll go. Anyone with me?”
Peeking up at the speaker, Ehud was surprised to see Mr Withdrawn-And-Commanding assenting so quickly. He cocked his head to side and wiped his eyes. Mr Pipe Man looked scary mad and he had moved away from his companion. Instinctively Ehud headed toward him but froze to glance back at Rosario inquisitively. For a moment she caught his gaze and read his intentions. So she deliberately looked away in her if-I-don’t-see-it-it’s-not-a-problem way.
Ehud nearly bumped into him and ducked between his shoulders before staring up at him.

December 10, 2020 at 8:02 am #122523Hi everyone!
I’m Rose and I heard of the Character Castle from Wingiby Iggiby and I was wondering if there’s still room? I don’t know exactly how it works, so I’d love to hear the rules if there’s still room.
Without darkness, there is no light. If there was no nighttime, would the stars be as bright?
December 10, 2020 at 9:16 am #122524You have the final slot.
1. Any character is welcome, hero or villain, incomplete or fully developed.
2. Characters may enter or leave the castle at the writer’s choice.
3. The castle is meant to test your characters so all actions within Forum Guideline are allowed. However, certain crimes may incur the wrath of the castle’s guardians. Villains beware.
4. The number of active characters shall be no more than 1o to allow writers to easily keep up with who is in.
5. Invent rooms at will. The castle’s floor plan changes at random so if you can’t remember the map, who cares.
6. Going beyond the castle’s outer ramparts is impossible. This is to limit the size to a degree and encourage character interaction.
7. Have fun.

December 10, 2020 at 1:09 pm #122541Welcome aboard! Nice signature, BTW. 🙂
Excellent posts; loved them!
Wow. You portray both different POVs so well. I can honestly say that I’ve never seen someone use two different POVs at the same time, keep them straight and easy to understand, and not do other head-jumping at the same time. I’m impressed! Keep up the good work. 🙂
@everyone,
Working on a response now…
