How very true!!! LOL. Especially with this post…

Just in the clearing with everyone else, so Kami could just speak to them from where he is. 🙂

HA!! Well, if it sounds like it’s straight from Wingiby’s comedy chamber, I believe my work here is done. *leans backwards in chair*

Konyar turned to the girl who’d claimed to be an heir to a throne. But Rilyn spoke before he could.  She flapped onto the ground in front of them, careful to avoid smacking anyone with her tail, and scowled.

“What in the world are you talking about? Heir to the throne for what countries? World of ‘Elun?’” Rilyn shook her head. “You liar. Nobody but dragons themselves watch out for dragons. Wasn’t it your kind who drove us out, murdering innocent hatchlings along the way? Slaughtering our old and feeble? How can you tell such lies?”

“And you!” Rilyn whirled around to face the small fey, who had explained the situation to Riure. “Who do you think we are? How dare you refer to us as if we’re simply wild beasts who need taken care of!” Rilyn was snarling now. “ ‘With luck you’ll be able to settle matters without needing swords,’” she quoted, anger blazing in her eyes. She advanced a step.

Konyar had only seen Rilyn this furious once, and that had not ended well.  “Rilyn,” he murmured in a low tone, stepping forward in front of her. “Calm down. Don’t burn bridges, don’t lose it, over simple words.”

She glared at him. “But these are not simple words! They are an insult to you, me, and all of our kind. He’s spitting bile for no reason! He’s–he’s–”

Konyar shot up into his dragon form in an attempt to meet her gaze, so he could reason with her better.  “That doesn’t mean we can just go about freaking out at everyone who offends us.”

Rilyn angled her face away, refusing to meet his eyes. “I just can’t forgive them for what happened to  Sirian. It’s their fault he…” She trailed off.

At the name, a lump formed in Konyar’s throat, and he, too, looked at the ground. “It’s not their fault, though. Not this specific group of people. Besides, I don’t think the small one is even a human.”

Rilyn’s glower returned. “I don’t care. I hate them all.” She had said the last words quietly enough that Konyar doubted anyone else had heard.

“Rilyn,”  he said. “Please. Be rational.”

Rilyn sucked in a deep breath and lowered her wings, sitting on the ground and avoiding the gazes of everyone in the clearing.

Konyar shrunk back to his human form and uncomfortably shrugged. “You don’t have to worry about us hurting you,” he told the fey. “We wouldn’t. Even if you were attacking us, attacking back would be the last resort.” But from the gleam in Rilyn’s eyes, Konyar doubted she would back up what he’d just said.

Gwendolen turned at the sound of wing beats. A huge dragon stood next to another person. Her mouth opened and shut without a sound. Her hands shook so that she was afraid the arrow would fly when not wanted.

She squeezed her eyes shut and shook her head. She looked back up and the dragon was still there.

She heard tales of the great flying lizards in fairytales when she was little. She had heard rumors of them living in the far corners of the earth. But she assumed they where fake.

            I guess not

              A dragon.

Kami gazed at the beast. He’d seen such a creature once before. 14 years ago when they were rediscovered after being passed off as beasts of legend.

But sometimes legend turn out to be the truth.

Arrow Girl stood near it, trembling. Kami himself was still stunned that one was before him, a mighty one from tale and myth, unlike the rediscovered dragons which were much smaller.

Yet scientists strived to find the larger ones, though many reasoned they had taken flight to distant galaxies; ones that would never be fully explored.

Kami moved closer to Arrow Girl slowly. In a low voice, he whispered, “Don’t make any sudden movements that may alarm them. They seem intelligent so I’m not too concerned.”

She glanced at him and he gave her an easy smile. Hopefully, he could gain her trust, and the others one-by-one.

The disgruntled girl apparently called Rilyn turned into a dragon. It had already been proved the Castle was a threat and manipulated object. So Rosario grabbed her gun. Once the blind girl thwunked into Ehud he jumped up.
“Whoa!” he yelped “Dude, I was asleep for five seconds!”
“It’s alright, everyone. That’s still Rilyn. We’re just dragons. We can turn into human form.”
There was no hesitation. Rosario aimed her pistol at the dragon and fired just as Ehud tackled her yelling “Wait!” Normally anyone who tried to tackle her would be dead in a millisecond. But as it was they both tumbled to the ground while Rosario cursed in two different languages from the effort of stifling her reflects to kill/maim him.
“Just cos they’re dragons doesn’t mean they’re bad people…ok they’re terrible people but that doesn’t mean they’re bad drago–”
“Get off me!” She shoved him, although not quite as hard as she could’ve. Ehud stared at her and turned pink. It hadn’t had time to register but he had really really missed her.
“Heheh, I…” No comment, go with no comment. “About the…the, ya’know, the top secret…I’m sorry.”
Rosario jerked him back by the nap of his shirt, making herself the larger target if it came to that as she propelled off his shoulder to stand, keeping her gun trained on the dragon the whole time.
“Alright,” she said “back up real slowly if you don’t want one in the eyeball.”
Ehud glanced between them and winced (he felt more scared for the dragon than her). That was ok because the dragon was screaming at the fairy and everybody else around. So he took the opportunity to duck to Rilyn before Rosario could grab him.
“Hey, look. Look! It’s ok, see…” He held out his hands defensively in front of the dragon “See, she’s not eating me. It’s ok…right? I’m just…I’m gonna…” Staring wide-eyed at everyone, very carefully he touched the dragon’s head and started to try and pet it (she jerked away indignantly which made him tense and look back at his best friend apprehensively). “But look, see, she’s not gonna hurt me.”
Ehud turned his back to the dragon to demonstrate while Rosario glared murder at him. So he whirled back the dragon and tried not to grin like a child on Christmas.
“Can I just say this is so cool!

                  Now it really set in.

I am not in my world at all. I am trapped in this world, and there is no way out but through that cave and that cave is blocked by two giant beasts, Kiark thought, and that is pretty much what passed through Wylo’s mind as well. The only thing they could do would be to face it head on in the best way that they could. Kiark turned to his uncle, his sapphire eyes sparkling.

“You know, there are a lot of things I want to ask you, but would now be such a time?”

Wylo smiled grimly, and his eyes were a cloudy grey. “Perhaps. We can sit here to watch and learn.”

                  “Kesi arn. Suits me.”

They sat down on the sweet grass, leaning against the invisible wall. They would be able to get up in time if they had too. Wylo stretched out his legs out and crossed them.

“Why did you go into hiding?” Kiark asked bluntly, pulling no punches. He did not do that.

The High-lord stared out in front of him, toward the cave. “Your father is mad, Kiarkus.”

                  “He’s your brother.”

                  “I could not change him.”

                  “You could fight him.”

Wylo was silent, so Kiark went on.

“I love him, Wylo. And, though I don’t know what happened, I know he hates what he’s doing. I’m going to stop him. I’ve already got myself a small army, and it’s going to grow. I do not see how you couldn’t have done the same.”

After a short pause, his uncle said, “there are many things that you don’t know, Kiarkus, and I have my reasons.” Wylo did not speak his reasons aloud, but one of them was that he had been scared. He wouldn’t have known what to do. He was not a leader like Waynot had been.

He stood up. “Let’s go,” he said in a gruff voice. Kiark stayed seated and watched him, and Wylo could feel his eyes boring a hole in his back. He didn’t say anything, but took out his pipe again, lit it, and inhaled deeply. He heard the prince get up slowly behind him, and they walked back to the confused and flustered group. Kiark had a million questions, and zero answers — and the feeling that he wasn’t going to get any of them from his uncle.

“–Attacking back would be the last resort,” Konyar said in his human form.

They took in the scene: a tiny winged person was with the blind girl, and it seemed that the dragon was arguing with them in heated tones. Then there was a man who seemed very important, talking to a girl with a bow. And then, after a loud crack that startled them almost out of their shoes, the curly headed girl and the energetic boy fell on the ground in a heap, and then the boy was suddenly up again, petting the dragon. “But look, see, she’s not gonna hurt me. Can I just say this is so cool!”

Wylo and Kiark stood off to the side some ways to see what would happen, hesitant to get involved.

I can’t believe the nerve of that kid, they thought.

I light the arrow, pull the bow,
Shoot that fire right through my soul.

“Well dear lady, two of our companions seem to be able to turn into Ancient Dragons. The talkative fellow is resting under the stern but protective watch of his friend.” The small person lowered his voice. “I believe she is his girlfriend.” Talking normally again, he leaned back and continued, “And our magician and his friend seem to know a thing or two about dragons. With luck, they can settle matters without the need to draw swords.”

                    Magician? Never heard of him.

A split second later a sound slashed through the air like light through the fabric of night. It was loud, sharp, and scared Riure so bad that she jerked violently. Sadiq barked again.

“What in the world are you talking about? Heir to the throne for what countries? World of ‘Elun?’” A female voice struck the air, seeming to not be bothered by whatever loud noise had just erupted. “You liar. Nobody but dragons themselves watch out for dragons. Wasn’t it your kind who drove us out, murdering innocent hatchlings along the way? Slaughtering our old and feeble? How can you tell such lies?”

                    Murdering? Slaughtering? What?

“And you!” Her voice was even louder, and Riure realized she’d turned to face her and the small man. “Who do you think we are? How dare you refer to us as if we’re simply wild beasts who need taken care of!” A snarl hissed through the air between them, and Riure felt the creature’s breath on her face. “ ‘With luck you’ll be able to settle matters without needing swords,’” the dragon quoted, voice thick with anger. She advanced a step, and Riure felt the need to either run, laugh, or reach forward to see how far away the creature really was.

The male dragon, his voice smaller than his companion’s, shifted. “You don’t have to worry about us hurting you,” he addressed Riure or the person by her. Probably the small person. “We wouldn’t. Even if you were attacking us, attacking back would be the last resort.”

Ok, that was a relief. Riure huffed in amusement.

Ehud’s high-pitched voice silenced everyone. “It’s ok…right? I’m just…I’m gonna…” a moment of silence, followed by several sounds Riure couldn’t identify. “But look, see, she’s not gonna hurt me.” More shifting, then one of Ehud’s typical outbursts. “Can I just say this is so cool!”

The warm glow by Riure was growing more and more concerning – and inviting. She was starting to get a little cold.

What to do, what to do… she debated. Biting her lower lip, she took a step forward, fingers extended. A moment later they brushed up against cool scales, whether on the dragon’s face or somewhere on her body, she couldn’t tell. The small person on her shoulder stiffened, stood, and lifted into the air. Sadiq growled from her place pressed against Riure’s legs. Someone was right by her; she could feel the heat emanating from their body. Ehud? Or the male dragon? Rosario? Or someone else?

As her fingers made contact, Riure suppressed a shiver of glee that she got whenever she touched an animal. She had a gift, she knew. Whenever she met a critter, she connected to it in a way she couldn’t explain. She found a way to… attach herself. She could distinguish the animal’s mood by feeling them – tense or relaxed muscles, standing still or shifting, all sorts of clues. Somehow she could tell their mood, and often coax them into a friendship of sorts, albeit an uneasy one most of the time.

This dragon was tense, very tense, and heat pulsed beneath her scales. The emotions were so strong they fairly wound themselves around Riure. Anger. Sorrow. Hatred. Her heart felt weighed down with sorrow. She found she empathized with the dragon. Her people had been slaughtered as well, children murdered, homes destroyed, people cast out or enslaved. All species had suffered with Malvat’s takeover.

And suddenly she knew what to say as she gently placed the palm of her hand flat against the thing, resting her forehead on its scales. She knew all mirth had vanished from her tone, and she knew all of her thoughts were revealed in the simple, soft, emotional words. “I’m sorry.”

Ahhhh! I LOVE the interactions going on between Kiarkus and Wylo! Wonderful. And I love how they react internally to all this craziness.

*starts crying* Okay, I just want to say how beautifully you write from Riure’s perspective. Honestly, rereading all the posts and having your character react/register them is hard enough as it is. But doing from someone who can’t see would be even harder. Yet, the way you describe the sounds and warmth and voices and.. It’s so amazing.

Secondly, I LOVED that “hissed” verb for the snarl…. And Riure’s reaction!!! And how you described how Rilyn feels!! And how Riure emphasizes…..You actually gave me an idea for something. As soon as it’s finished, can I post it either in an update to you or right here?

Will work on a response as soon as possible!

*wipes forehead* Oh, good. I was hoping you would be ok with it! Lol, the whole time I was writing I kept thinking, Ok, I want Riure to touch Rilyn, but I don’t want it to be cheesy. So she should say something. What should she say? “Hello, Ms. Dragon, I’m Riure?” No, that would just be totally wrong for the situation. Should she laugh? That would be Riure’s normal, but it doesn’t fit either.

*types “The emotions were so strong they fairly wound themselves around Riure. Anger. Sorrow. Hatred.”* *sits bolt upright* *thinks, Aha! That’s perfect!!* *types a couple useful paragraphs slowly, then the final words, “I’m sorry.”* *leans back and nods* Perfect.

                          😛

Anywho, enough of that. I liked the hissed part as well; I’ve been reading the Wings of Fire series lately and the author uses hissed a lot. I think she rubbed off on me. 😛

Ok, an update works great!! I can’t WAIT to see it!!!! 😉

“Can I just say this is so cool!” Ehud burst out, standing so near to Rilyn that the dragon expected Rosaria to shoot her.

Rilyn lowered her neck and studied him. Ehud’s child-like innocence surprised her, but also gave her the urge to whack him in order to show him that he should be more suspicious of strangers–especially dragons.

Ehud cocked his head to the side like a curious puppy as he waited for her answer.

But, from behind, a small hand rested itself on Rilyn’s neck. Rilyn stiffened and slowly turned to behold Riure brushing her fingers against her scales.  The blind girl seemed to ponder something before leaning her forehead against Rilyn.

“I’m sorry,” she said simply in her soft, kind voice.

Rilyn froze. How could this girl know? Somehow, in her voice, Riure had conveyed to the dragon that she understood, that she’d experienced the same pain. But it also sounded like Riure simply cared that pain and anger thundered through Rilyn, like the blind girl just wanted to help. Rilyn’s neck sunk closer to the ground, and Rilyn shifted so that Riure was now leaning her forehead against hers. Rilyn didn’t know what to say in response, but she allowed a burst of fire to bubble in her throat, causing a fresh wave of warmth to seep through her scales. A puff of smoke billowing out from her nostrils. Riure seemed to notice the pleasant heat.

However, the next moment, Rilyn jerked Riure into the air, holding her by her foreleg, talons closed carefully around Riure’s stomach.  Sadiq wildly snarled and snapped at the dragon, jumping at her, and Rilyn hissed at him.

“What are you doing?” Konyar shouted, reverting to dragon form and starting to snatch the girl away.

“Saving her life,” Rilyn growled. She gently placed the shaken Riure back on the ground, away from the tree line.

“What do you–” But Konyar halted mid-sentence as he noticed that the jello-y wall (remember that? @wingiby-iggiby created it, I think) had sprouted spikes and was now closing in around the clearing, shrinking it and forcing the occupants back into the cave.

                              ***
Okay, so you guys can take or leave this, but I was thinking: “How are we gonna get these stubborn characters to go into that cave that’s obviously a trap?” And I was thinking about how cool Wingiby’s jello wall thing was, and then I was like: “What if it forced them into the cave??!” So.. what do you guys think? We can ignore the this post’s ending if you don’t like it. 😉

Allen looked up at the dragon. Suddenly, he felt weak. Very weak. He had taken pride in his strength. Even the giant spriggans had had trouble dueling with him. But looking into the eyes of this giant dragon, Allen knew how little it mattered. Him trying to fight it would be like fighting a battleship with a surfboard.

Then Riure started forward. Allen wanted to stop her but all he could do was jump lightly from her shoulder. Brawn could not win this fight. He would curse himself if it failed but the innocence of Riure might sway the anger of the dragon. If Allen got closer he might be deemed a threat and a battle would begin. He hated being helpless in this situation but Allen had to trust the girl.

Even so, Allen began to silently enchant himself. If things went south, he could grab Riure and hide in the cave. It was for sure a trap but a full size dragon couldn’t move well in such tight quarters. What to do after that would depend on what was deeper in.

Reaching the dragon, Riure hugged it.

                                “I’m sorry.”

Allen nodded. A simple but heartfelt phrase. The dragon seemed to calm. This was going to work. Suddenly the dragon grabbed Riure. Yelling, Allen drew his sword and charged as he felt it. A surge of magic. Spinning on his back, he looked up and saw the shielding magic. The spell had been overwritten by the castle and was now a death trap. The frying pan or the fire. Given the option of certain death or unproven but likely trap, Allen chose the trap.

Looking forward, he flew into the depths of the cave. The dragon had gone in here. It must have seen the spikes first. He would have to apologize when he found it. If he did. Allen would rip the castle apart until he did.

The Devil saw me with my head down and got excited. Then I said Amen

The dragon bent her head down to study Ehud. So he did the same. Her eyes had that same look behind them that Enoch had had when…Tilting his head to side he stared up at her uncertainly. It was that same expression Enoch had after wrestling their tripped up dad out of the house and locking the door. His brother told him to pack up everything he wanted and they never came back to that place. Ehud was somewhere from eight to twelve at the time so he went with it and that was the last time…
“I’m sorry,” Riure touched Rilyn softly and the dragon froze. So she had felt it too? Lowering her head, Rilyn brushed her forehead against the girl’s and let a little puff of heat through her nostrils. Swap! In a second the dragon yanked her in the air so quick Ehud gave a cry.
“What are you doing?” The other person turned into a dragon, jerking after her so Ehud ducked just in time.
                                  “Let her go-!”
“Saving her life,” This was as far as Ehud heard before before being hauled back by the hood of his jacket.
Get back, idiota! Do you just want to die?!” Twisting her arm around him so tightly he could barely breath, she leveled her gun at the dragons until Rilyn set down the girl. Without waiting she dropped the pistol to its holster and gripped Ehud’s shoulder. “You’re ok? Are you alright?”
“Y-yeah.” He gasped. Same scared eyes when his dad would be like normal and then suddenly snap. But Rosario didn’t have time to handle that right now so she nods sharply. She did a quick assessment of the situation; without warning translucent walls spiked toward them like glaring teeth.
“We need to go. Vamos vete, carino,” Propelling him forward she pointed him to cave and turned to grab the blind girl. In mid-dash Ehud glanced back skidded to a stop before chasing after her.

To be a light to the world you must shine in the darkness.
