Thanks for the advice! While I certainly don’t have an adoring fan base (I’m currently working on my first novel), I’m not planning to do anything more with this than share it with family and friends (and maybe put it out here). I’ll keep all that in mind.

This has been an interesting book to read (or listen in my case cause I’m lazy and busy) through together and analyze as there is a lot going on thematically, so I’ll do my best to express myself properly here.
The Good
One of the aspects that gripped me most about this book is how certain scenes actually made me dread what was going to happen…[Read more]

@taylorclogston Well-thought out. I actually agree with a lot, though I think some things might have more than one sensible way of looking at it. Like, while I can see that Matt thought possessively about Jesse, I’m not sure that shows up quite as omnipresently as you saw it–though perhaps I’m wrong.
I do want to amend my statement about Matt’s…[Read more]

I agree with @daeus-lamb in that I was expecting something very dark and terrible to happen, too. I knew someone would die, and I feared it would be Daisy who got electrocuted on the roof of Jesseโs house. Nevertheless, I was satisfied with the ending because everything was as it should beโmost importantly, Jesse and Earl belonged together and Mat…[Read more]

I got Master Writer. Kinda funny considering I have not really written that much.
I really enjoyed how you could multi-select. That was a big plus for me!
I also liked a lot of the questions. Most of the questions didn’t directly apply to me but they gave me ideas on how I could write later on. They are all things I can work on…[Read more]

I got Master Writer. I think I can still improve in a lot of areas, but I don’t think I’m a bad writer. Thanks for making this quiz!!

Hey!
Yeah, um you know I could prob improve on almost everything lol! ๐
If I had to choose just one thing I’d pick…maybe structuring and editing! (which is technically two things lol)
What are some of the best books on just writing in general that you’d recommend?

@taylorclogston, That was fun! I got the Journeyman Writer. ๐
Same! But I really appreciate that that was an option. ๐

Great quiz Taylor! I didn’t realize I could select multiple answers until half way through. ๐ I got Journeyman Writer and I will most definitely check out the books suggested.

I’m really late to this discussion, and for the most part I’d just second others’ answers. I’m somewhere between @corky and @taylorclogston when it comes to how connected the places in Dogwood felt. I pictured some connections between specific locations, but for the most part I didn’t have a strong sense of Dogwood’s real size or proportions. But…[Read more]

Hello, all! I have a short story that is in need of critique. I will tag those who have already beta-read my work, but anyone else’s opinion would be appreciated.

You two are my only regulars. 😆
It sounds like you think the prose shows too much musing and predigestion for Matt’s age, @Taylorclogston? That’s sensible, though I don’t think I agree. Perhaps because I’m just the type of person to over-digest things. I tend to think readers read a little of themselves into every character. At least it’s my…[Read more]
