I, uh, never thought of it that way, but that might be a cool addition to the species. They just live in certain places around the world and the humans capture and domestication them for military purposes. At least in most cases. Some lucky few have them for personal travel.

I think stuff like this exists in real life, but they’re places air flows in a certain direction, like a sea current. They occur high up, so they’re used in conjunction with skreel to get around very quickly.
